First Period
Early on in the game, the Scarecrows and Knights trade a scoring chance or two each way but nothing of substance comes of those chances. Two minutes in, Nickolas Klaus picks off an intended pass by Nicolas Fleming and the Knights move into the attacking zone on an odd-man rush. Klaus dishes it to Bobby Sharp and he drops it off for Sanyi Kocsis. He feeds Nolan Sawchuk for a one-timer that Billy Sorokin kicks aside with his pad. Sawchuk picks up his own rebound and throws it at the net, Sharp with a beautiful tip in front slides it by Sorokin to put Kelowna up 1-0!

Knights GOAL 1. Kelowna Knights , Bobby Sharp 7 (Nolan Sawchuk 6, Nickolas Klaus 6) at 2:13 Knights 1 Scarecrows 0

For the next few minutes, St. Louis and Kelowna trade shots and hits back and forth but nothing of significance finds it's way towards the net. Seven minutes gone in the opening period now and the Scarecrows pick up the puck behind their own net, Michael Fox leaves it for Kiko Rytmeyr and he makes his way across center ice. Rytmeyr wheels into the Kelowna zone, stops on a dime and throws it across for Fork Spoon. Spoon with some great eye-hand co-ordination knocks it out of the air and into the back of the net. Video review is called for on the goal for a possible high-stick but after review, it is a good goal and the game is tied at one!

Scarecrows GOAL 2. St. Louis Scarecrows , Fork Spoon 6 (Kiko Rytmeyr 6, Michael Fox 3) at 7:10 Knights 1 Scarecrows 1

A few minutes pass by without much action before Charlie Serpe takes a hooking minor. Kelowna's powerplay goes to work but is unable to finish, despite putting three shots on net. With the period winding down, the Knights go to the powerplay once more when Fork Spoon takes a holding minor with about three minutes to go. Once again, Kelowna is unable to connect with the extra skater and record five shots on goal. The teams go into the locker room knotted at one goal a piece after 20 minutes of play.

Second Period
The Knights are yet again the beneficiary of another powerplay early in the middle frame when Slip McScruff takes a hooking minor about four minutes in. Kelowna makes no mistake this time, Big Fudge feeds the puck up to Sharp across the red line and he crosses the St. Louis blue line to set up the powerplay. Sharp looks for an open lane, passes to Klaus and he pumps it home to give the Knights a 2-1 lead!

Knights GOAL 3. Kelowna Knights , Nickolas Klaus 7 (Bobby Sharp 8, Big Fudge 4) at 4:37 (PP) Knights 2 Scarecrows 1

St. Louis and Kelowna each receive a powerplay with Serpe going to the box for the Scarecrows again and Barry Batsbak in the sin bin for the Knights on a goalie interference call. Neither team is able to cash in on their powerplay and score remains 2-1 for Kelowna until under half of the period left to go. 11 minutes gone and the Knights work a cycle deep in the St. Louis zone. Dick Clapper lets a slapshot fly that is blocked by a St. Louis defender but it bounces right onto the stick of Batsbak and he fires it behind Sorokin to extend the Kelown lead to 3-1!

Knights GOAL 4. Kelowna Knights , Barry Batsbak 5 (Dick Clapper 7, Liam Hutchinson 4) at 11:24 Knights 3 Scarecrows 1

The Scarecrows get another chance on the powerplay with about six minutes remaining in the period when Nathan Explosion takes a holding minor. St. Louis put a pair of shots on net as well as a shot well wide of the goal early on in the man advantage. Following a Guy Zheng shot block, Serpe scoops up the loose puck and shoots but another shot block by the Kelowna defenders. Fleming corrals that and feeds Rytmeyr in the slot and his snapshot beats Vivian Leblanc over the shoulder to bring the Scarecrows within a goal!

Scarecrows GOAL 5. St. Louis Scarecrows , Kiko Rytmeyr 4 (Nicolas Fleming 8, Charlie Serpe 4) at 15:41 (PP) Knights 3 Scarecrows 2

On the very next faceoff, St. Louis looks hungry for another goal and work the puck into the Kelowna zone with momentum on their side. After a big hit in the corner, Basil Magnicotta gets the puck and dishes behind the net to McScruff. McScruff finds a wide open Filip Zadina and Zadina winds up with a howitzer, blowing it behind Leblanc. The Scarecrows tie the game at three late in the period!

Scarecrows GOAL 6. St. Louis Scarecrows , Filip Zadina 2 (Slip McScruff 9, Basil Magnicotta 7) at 15:56 Knights 3 Scarecrows 3

Not long after, Michael Fox takes an undisciplined roughing minor to put the Knights back on the powerplay. However, the Knights are not the ones able to cash in on this powerplay. With the penalty to Fox winding down, Kelowna is guilty of an icing call and Spoon wins the ensuing face-off. Spoon's face-off win goes back to Serpe and he finds Rytmeyr in the high slot. Rytmeyr has a hot stick tonight and makes no mistake in tickling the twine for his second of the game and gives the Scarecrows their first lead of the game!

Scarecrows GOAL 7. St. Louis Scarecrows , Kiko Rytmeyr 5 (Charlie Serpe 5, Fork Spoon 7) at 18:05 (SH) Scarecrows 4 Knights 3

Scarecrows 10 (16)

Score:

Third Period
With neither team wanting to commit a fatal error, allowing the opposing team to gain an advantage, the third period is a highly contested one. Early on, Liam Hutchinson takes a hooking minor, putting St. Louis on the powerplay. The Scarecrows get four shots on net but are unable to get the insurance marker past Leblanc. Each team is pressing for an opening with many shots making it on the net but either goalie is not giving up anything. With less than eight minutes remaining in the period, Kelowna starts pressing for the tying goal even more and their hard work pays off. Zheng, Clapper and Hutchinson work a cycle down low in the Scarecrows zone and after a Clapper shot is blocked, Hutchinson misses the net but Clapper picks the loose puck up. He wraps it around the net and tucks it home to tie the game at 4!

Knights GOAL  8. Kelowna Knights , Dick Clapper 6 (Liam Hutchinson 5, Guy Zheng 15) at 12:27
Scarecrows 4 Knights 4

Brolias Hawking takes a tripping penalty with around five minutes remaining in the period but the Knights are unable to capitalize with the extra man and are only able to manage one shot on net. The remaining time in the third period elapses and overtime is needed to decide a winner in this game.

Shots:
Knights 11 (35)
Scarecrows 09 (25)

Score:

Overtime
St. Louis comes out with upper hand in the overtime session but are not able to beat Leblanc. Kelowna gets a couple of chances as well but they are unable to put one by Sorokin. With time ticking down and a shootout on the horizon, Fleming and Magnicotta work a give-and-go in the attacking zone. Fleming fires a hard wrist shot along the ice that Ty Hoover tips and gets Leblanc moving the wrong way. The puck slides past Leblanc and into the back of the net to give the Scarecrows the overtime win!

Scarecrows GOAL 9. St. Louis Scarecrows , Ty Hoover 1 (Nicolas Fleming 9, Basil Magnicotta 8) at 4:13 Scarecrows 5 Knights 3

High Octane Entertainment

This game was a back and forth game between the Knights and the Scarecrows. The Knights opened up the scoring and then the Scarecrows responded, with the first period ending in a 1-1 tie. The second period opened up with the Knights getting two quick goals to make the lead 3-1 for them. Within the last 5 minutes of the second period, the Scarecrows got 3 goals. One of them was on the powerplay and one of them was shorthanded. At the 2nd of the second period the Scarecrows led 4-3. In the 3rd the Knights get a game tying goal and the game goes to overtime with the Scarecrows recording the game winning goal in the overtime. The Knights were able to have a shot advantage in the first period of 15 to 6 but the next 3 periods were all pretty even in shots.

The Scarecrows Dominant The Faceoff Circle

Looking at the post game stats and it shows the Scarecrows had won 71 faceoffs, at first I thought this was a typo but it was not. The Knights were only able to win a total of 27 faceoffs out of 98. That is horrible. The Knights leading faceoff man were Aleksandr Scherbak and Nickolas Klaus who won 7 faceoffs each. The Scarecrows leading faceoff man was Ty Hoover with 31 faceoff wins in 40 attempts and the second faceoff leader for the Scarecrows was Michael Fox who won 19 out of 28 draws. Winning faceoffs is really important, espcially in special team situations and it showed with the amount of special team offensive opportunities that were created because of a winning faceoff.

POTG

The player of the game is a no doubter. Kiko Rytmeyr has been dynamic this game. He tallied 2 goals and an assist to get his team force overtime and win it for his team. The 2nd period was all Kiko Rytmeyr where he was unstoppable. He had 2 goals this period and helped his team comeback when they were down 3-1 this game. He had 3 shots that game and 2 goals which is really impressive. But he was a defenseman which is something rare. Seeing a defenseman score 2 goals is something we do not always see. Great game for him.

Goalie showdown

When you see the score of the game, you expect this to be a bad game for not only one goaltender but for both goaltender. God knows what happened with Vivian Leblanc and Billy Sorokin. Sorokin faced a whole lot of shots that game with 37 shots and stopped 33 of them which is actually not that bad but a .892 save percentage. Leblanc however did not get the job done. Allowing a power play goal, shorthanded goal and the overtime goal. Obviously both goaltenders did not have a great game but Sorokin was the better goaltender and pulled it off with a win.

Special Team Analysis

I have said this before, special teams is very important and one of the key aspects of winning a game. It is the only time for a power play where you can get the advantage to score a goal and it is important to have a good one. Kelowna needs help in that because they went 1 for 6 in the power play. Obviously scoring a goal in one of the opportunities is good but not scoring on 5 other ones is not enough. The crows also scored one but they have 3 opportunities. So penalty killing for st louis was a big win.

TSN TURNING POINT

Tonight we have the clash of the Kelowna Knights and St. Louis Scarecrows. As far as turning points in this game there were two main sequences that stand out in this game. The first came late in the second period with the Scarecrows trailing in the game 3 to 1. The Scarecrows went on the power play with roughly 5 minutes remaining, and then took off. Rytmyer found the back of the net for his 4th of the season bringing the Scarecrows within 1. Then Was Zadina, who wired one home just 15 seconds later, tying the game at 3 and really swinging the momentum. Then once again Rytmyer continues with the pressure and tallied his 2nd of the game and 5th of the season to take the lead.

The last turning point is an easy one, it was the overtime winner from Ty Hoover. It was his first of the season and obviously a big one!

The Highlights

Kiko Rytmeyr brings the Scarecrows within in 1 late in the 2nd period. His 4th tally on the season.

The Crows tie the game with Kiko Rytmeyr scoring his 2nd of the game and 5th on the season with under 2 minutes left in the period.

Tonights game really brought out the best out of each team but one player really stood out on the scoresheet and on the ice. Kiko Rytmeyr was an absolute stud in this game and found the back of the net twice in tonight's contest. Kiko helped get the Scarecrows back on track as he netted a power play goal late in the 2nd period. That wasn't all Kiko Rytmeyr had in store as just 3 minutes later he found away to put home a shorthanded goal to give the Scarecrows a 4 to 3 lead. Rytmeyr also added an assist in the game with a team leading and game leading 3 points. Rytmeyr also added 3 shots on net and had a had just near 25 near minutes of ice time through the contest. Overall is was a great game by both teams but Kiko Rytmyer stood out among them all as is tonights MVP

Fox Sports Midwest Five Stars of the Night

Star 1: Kiko Rytmeyr - With a total of 3 points (2G, 1A) tonight, this player is unstoppable. What is even more outstanding is the fact that he scored on the powerplay AND the penalty kill.

Star 2: Fork Spoon – With 2 points (1G, 1A), this player did his fair share in the game. He helped Rytmeyr get his 5th goal shorthanded and scored in the first period to tie the game up at 1-1.

Star 3: Nicolas Fleming – With his 9th assist and 2nd point of the game, Fleming helped win the game for his team in this tight matchup between possible 4 star cup contenders.

Star 4: Charlie Serpe – This rookie is unstoppable. He assisted on both of Kiko Rytmeyr’s goals.

Star 5: Ty Hoover – With the game winning goal, he deserves this spot.

Future Playoff Matchup?
For the last few seasons, these two teams have seemed to have been trading the Four-Star Cup back and forth. Despite their records is there a possibility that we will be able to see these foes play each other in the Playoffs? Very much so. If you take a look into the past seasons, both of these teams usually get off on slow starts but speed up as the season progresses. I predict that we will see these teams in the cup finals this season. It will be very fun to see these teams battle it out for the cup!

Comment 3
Special Teams Shows Up
For the Scarecrows, special teams has been very good. Last season, the Crows had an 84.77% on the penalty kill and 22.68% on the powerplay. In this game, they were very undisciplined, taking 6 penalties. This was the time for them to put their special teams skills to the test. On the Powerplay they saw three chances and managed to score on one of them thanks to Kiko Rytmeyr. On the Penalty kill, they killed off all penalties but one. This gives them a 83.33% on the Penalty Kill. The most impressive part of this is the fact that they managed to put up a goal on the Penalty Kill.
