Vancouver Whalers (3) vs. (4) Kelowna Knights

1st Period

2:28 - Dick Clapper (11) from Liam Hutchinson (7) & Barry Batsbak (12) Knights

The play started with Barry Batsbak intercepting a breakout pass from Vancouver defenseman Jeremy Chen. Batsbak then made a short pass to Liam Hutchinson as he broke into the zone and attempted to get a shot off but Jeremy Chen got back in time to get a stick on the puck. Dick Clapper got to the loose puck, attempted a shot, which also got blocked by Jeremy Chen. Clapper got his own rebound and proceeded to snipe one far side on Casimir Stevens.

4:27 - William Goose (8) from Carlo Russo (10) Whalers

Kelowna's Aleksandr Scherbak won the offensive zone face-off against Andy Kerr. Scherbak attempted a pass but got intercepted by Carlo Russo who found William Goose streaking down the ice. Goose closed down on goalie Vivian Leblanc, made a nice forehand, backhand move and roofed one high glove.

7:26 - Petr Mikulak (13) from Borromini Cannellini (17) & Cullen Gray (11) Whalers

Jeremy Chen picked up a loose puck in the defensive zone and made a breakout pass to Borromini Cannellini who broke into the Knight's zone and made a quick pass to Cullen Gray on a give-and-go. Cannellini shot through a Petr Mikulak screen, as Mikulak got a piece of the puck as it went in the net.

11:29 - Sami Votto (3) from Pierre Laroche-Durocher (5) & Big Fudge (8) Knights

Pierre Laroche-Durocher intercepted a Egor Kucherov and sprung Big Fudge into the Vancouver zone, who then dropped the puck back to Laroche-Durocher. He then found Sami Votto cutting back door and laid a laser pass right on his tape and into the net.

13:14 - Liam Hutchinson (PP)(2) from Nathan Explosion (7) & Sanyi Kocsis (12) Knights

Barry Batsbak won the offensive zone faceoff to Sanyi Kocsis who one-timed a shot on net which generated a rebound. The rebound was corralled by Nathan Explosion who curled out to the top of the circle and put a shot on net that got deflected by Liam Hutchinson and snuck past Casimir Stevens.

19:37 - Petr Mikulak (14) from Borromini Cannellini (18) & Cullen Gray (12) Whalers

After a lengthy amount of time in the offensive zone from Vancouver's first line, a shot from Cannellini got clipped by Zach Laliberte and fell straight onto Petr Mikulak's stick, who had an easy shot glove side.

1:14 - Dick Clapper (12) from Karlstrabe Scholz (12) & Bobby Sharp (16) Knights

Bobby Sharp entered the Vancouver zone and passed to Karlstrabe Scholz who missed the net short side. The puck bounced off the boards behind the net and came straight to Dick Clapper who was there to capitalize on the chance and close out the game.

Comment 2: Inside the Game.

This was an excellent match up between the Knights and the Whalers that went to overtime. As we look closer at what made this such a great match up we notice that both teams came out firing, scoring a total of 5 goals in the period. The Knights with 3 goals on 14 shots and the Whalers with 2 goals on 10 shots. Each team held a lead in the period but it was Kelowna being able to stay out front at the end of the first frame. The goalies would then settle in and it looked as if Kelowna would go into the 3rd period with a lead, but Vancouver's Peter Mikulak scored a huge goal with just 23 seconds left in the period to swing the momentum back in Vancouver's favor. The 3rd period was a grudge match, with each team exchanging about even chances 10-9 on the shots but neither could score. Overtime was tightly played for the first minute with no shots for either team until Dick "Clutch" Clapper scored the oevrtime game winner on the first shot of overtime for Kelowna. A great goal and a clutch victory for the Knights with Vancouver picking up a point also.
