because of a AHL or minor league as spot between juniors and SHL is also interesting and for that we could let create teams outta North America
I would also then say ... all players they are 500+ TPE comes in that league! then the newbies would have more and better spots in the SMJHL
I would rather shut down this two SMJHL Expansion teams and add 4 AHL/Minor league teams! they could also add inactives under 201-500 TPE older than 3 SHL years (this would include rentals) and the lines should be full enough for 4 teams a 16 players (9 Forwards + 6 Defender + 1 Goalie)
oh the AHL/minor teams would need that SHL teams for having their players ... there we have two different options:
first: Division based
second: the AHL/Minor Team Head GMs and the SHL Head GMs must choose their teams! each AHL/Minor Team would have the possibility to add 4 SHL teams to get their send downs

I really like the idea @O4L proposed with an AHL/Send down league kinda style.
I took a look at the numbers and we currently have as of this update cycle:
400+ TPE players: 51 players
450+ TPE players: 35 players
500+ TPE players: 21 players
So if we go with the 400 TPE cutoff we could comfortably field 4 teams with an average of 12 players per team. 450 would mean 8-9 players per team the rest would be filled with inactives.
Or another option would be to change send down eligibility. Currently you can play in the SMJHL for 5 seasons.
Season 1-2 You have to play in the SMJHL
Season 3 you can decide if you wanna move up to the senddown league
Season 4-5 you have to play in the send down league.
For reference the top earner of season 3 currently have about 550+ TPE they are in the season that they can decide where they wanna play. SMJHL or send-down league.
Send-down league would obviously be uncapped.
I would make 4 send-down teams. Each team gets the send-downs of 1 SHL division so team would be:
Great Lakes
Atlantic
Northwest
Southwest
Thank you all for the amazing sigs & player cards

I like many ideas here and I would go with:
available players for the new Send Down League: 450+ TPE players
deadline: reg season thread is posted (all claimable TPE until this time will count/will close a possible loophole)
inactive signings: max 400 TPE players (201-400 TPE)
for SMJHL:
max TPE: 350
max TPE for inactive signings: 200
active rookies must always have more icetime than inactive signed players
result:
- newbies/recreates = rookie would have more Icetime = better for interest = less leaving members
- no more 2-4 seasons with the same 350 TPE build
- new Goals in that send downs league
- con would be a new simmer
- new Send Down League HO (more jobs and also more chances to grow up)
- overall more jobs (updater, PT director and so on)
- Send Down league wouldnt need any draft so less work their
- SHL division based Send Down Teams
- possiblity to create teams out of North America (west conference to South America, Hawaii, Australia, Asia & east conference to europe and africa)

I'd rather spend the time on my SMJHL team being capped tbh
I get that doesn't have to be 4 teams of 1 divison make one team but 4 random SHL teams make 1 send down team. Divisonal teams was just an easy way to select 4 send down teams because more than 4 teams probably can't be sustained in a send-down league.

we could also say we create 8 Send Down league teams and they can talk with SHL teams for 1 or 2 season contracts for their send down players!
but then we would need 350+ players as available number. (in S46 we had 85 players above 350 TPE)
the SMJHL must cut 2-6 teams (idk what would be the perfect number here with the next reddit draft in the pipeline)!!!
then we would have a league for players until they have 350 TPE before the reg season start thread is up (+ all claimable TPEs)
this would be perfect for the newbies to have them here for a longer time. I dont like that so many lose their interest after being capped in the SMJHL or just see no chance in the first two season because of this huge number of send downs!
I believe a send down league would save the site for decades. in the SMJHL could also play regressed inactive players if they arent higher than 400 TPE and also active regressed players if they see they cant play well enough in the SHL. so they could stay longer with their players. I know that is also interesting for some members. It wouldnt be in the SHL but they could have their player for a longer time. we would have so many possibilites and more new jobs! I know that its hard to find new simmers today and this would be the only disadvantage in my eyes!

I've been talking to McZ about this on discord, but I think one of the issues with any kind of "supplementary" league would be the number of teams - if you have 4 teams you're going to only play 3 other teams which gets pretty repetitive pretty quickly. It's an interesting idea for sure, and I told McZ it might be worth looking at a 350+ league between the SHL and SMJHL, but then what happens to draftees? Do they end up in a 4 team league too?

SMJHL could always stay with 6-8 teams because of space for the reddit drafts! between them teams would have not this activity but if we have huge reddit drafts like the last one we would have enough spots

I think adding another league would only make things a little more cluttered and confusing for players and their path. Like you said, it would be repetitive with only 4 teams, and then it just becomes like a little season-long tournament rather than an actual league.
Personally I like the idea of a tiered update scale based on the number of seasons you're in the SMJHL. Maybe we could cap it at 4 seasons rather than 5, so you have something like Donini mentioned in the OP. This makes it so players don't get bored of simply banking TPE from the start of their 2nd season, as well as having a team they're affiliated with to play with. The connection to an SMJHL team is important to a lot of people, and being grouped into 1/4 teams in a separate league doesn't seem too fun, especially if you've developed some rivalries in the SMJHL and then have to be teammates with others. I just personally think a tiered system, along with an increase in scoring (if possible) is the best course of action for all involved, including rookies.
The problem with this though, is inactives. So we might have enough people to actually implement it, but the farm leagues will be made up of a lot of inactives. The 145 people under 350 does include inactives, so we need to see who isn’t actually active and then go from there

yep! important for the two first lines (Off and Def + Goalie = 11 players per team/with 6 Teams 66 players and with 8 Teams 88 players)
for SMJHL and this 148 players the same (with 8 teams 88 players and with 10 teams 110 players)
but I really believe 8 Teams for SMJHL and 6 for a new Farm League should be possible
