Olivier Cloutier (born June 17, S29) is a French professional ice hockey right winger and captain for the Anchorage Armada of the SMJHL.

Playing Career

Cloutier was drafted third overall to the SMJHL Anchorage Armada in S45[1]. He was drafted third overall to the SHL Tampa Bay Barracuda in S46, becoming the franchise's first draft pick under the Barracuda brand[2]. He signed a three-season contract worth $10 million with the Barracuda that fall[3].

International Play

Cloutier has played for Team World at the World Junior Championships since S44. He was captain of the team when they won gold in S45[4] and alternate captain when they won silver in S46[5].

Despite having dual-citizenship with the UK and being invited to training camps by the IIHF's Team Great Britain[6], Cloutier has not declared an IIHF affiliation.

Personal Life

Cloutier was born in S29 in Lyon, France, to Alina and Christophe Cloutier[7]. Cloutier first skated at age 4 and began playing hockey at age 5 with the LHC Les Lions[8]. He played elite-level amateur football with the Lyon FC until he was 13[9].

Cloutier's parents passed away in a car collision in March of S42, after which Cloutier moved with his grandmother Enid Merrick to her hometown of Caernarfon, Wales[9].

Cloutier shared an apartment in Anchorage with then-captain Leopold Lockhart, now of the San Francisco Pride, during the S46 season[10].

Cloutier came out as gay in a post on his personal Instagram during the offseason of S46[11]. Though the Anchorage Armada PR department forbids questions from the media on the topic[12], Cloutier is confirmed to be dating Jimmy Slothface of the Halifax Raiders[13].

Player Name: Boris Poroshenko
1. Early Life

Boris started his career in Ukraine, due to the economy they could not afford a lot of protective hockey equipment, luckily there was such an abundance of Kielbasa, so the kids would just shove a whole bunch under their track suit. There local ref Maxim was not one to remember, whenever kids would take penalties or fight, you would not sit in a box and serve your time, instead Maxim would give you cigarette burns depending on how bad the penalty was. Some feel Maxim was a real father figure for the the ice hockey boys as he taught them slavic discipline, how to drink vodka and the way of the game.

Many believe Boris was an aggressive player due to his size, even at a young age he was always nick named "The Beast" as he once challenged a bear who wandered on the ice as it could smell the kielbasa on all the kids. Boris could not believe he'd just beaten a bear and from that moment the beast was born.

Wikipedia/SHL
Player Name:
2. Playing Career

Tyler Tougard is a two-time SMJHL Champion, thanks to his placement on the St. Louis Scarecrows and his hard work on the ice.
Tougard stats look like this:
S45 - GP-50, G-11, A-18, P-27, +/- (-2)
S46 - GP-50, G-16, A-20, P-36, +/- (-4)
S47 (so far) GP-34, G-16, A-13, P-29, +/- (+12)

Tougard is constantly improving, having scored the exact same amount of goals as last season, in 16 less games. His assists are down by 7 in that time period, but Tougard should see another career high in all statistics. While he hasn't improved his skills due to a training cap implemented on him in Juniors, he continues to excel and rise up. This definitely bodes well for his future in the SHL. The Texas Renegades were able to nab him late, when everyone else passed over him due to "miscommunication" between the player and agents.

Parker Smeb was born in Busan, South Korea. Born as one of the bastard sons of SHL Hall Of Famer Chico Salmon, Parker grew up dreaming of one day playing in the SHL alongside his brothers and reuniting with his birth father. Parker grew up with a large family with half-brothers born all around the world due to his father's sex addiction. Most of his father's bastards were sent to live in Korea with Parker. Parker was the most naturally skilled hockey player out of the family and taught all of his younger brothers how to play hockey. Parker considered a career in E-Sports but decided the only way to earn his fathers respect and love was to play hockey and be inducted into the SHL HOF.

Parker had a two-season long junior career in Colorado after falling to pick 66 in the SMJHL, during that period he had 68 points in 100 games. Parker was one of the most productive players in the league in both his seasons and developed chemistry with Knute Knurtsson. In his second season, he had the second highest PP/60 in the league and led the league in hits, despite Parker's production in the SMJHL he was not nominated for MVP or top defensive forward and did not win the most underrated award. Many believe that Parker was blacklisted from winning SMJHL awards due to him criticizing the league over their lack of encouraging offensive play and calling it a "dead puck league" in multiple interviews. In his first SHL season, Parker has 19 points in 34 games and currently sits 4th in rookie scoring. The only players above Parker on the rookie scoring board are S45's which all have a big TPE advantage over him.

In what was a historic SMJHL draft, Matt Kholin was drafted #34 in the 4th round by the Halifax Raiders. His incredible rise among the top rookies  rewarded him with a nomination for top rookie of the year when he finished his rookie season with 32 points. He has since been the #1 center for the junior team for 2 seasons in a row and while his previous season didn't amount to anything close to his rookie season's success, he seems to have found his stride this season to finish his junior career among the best in the league.

6. Controversy
There has been a controversy surrounding Matt Kholin for the better part of his junior career, although it seems to have died down a bit. Kholin has been tied to the disappearance of Russian Sasha Zubanova and allegedly killing her. It started on a night out with fellow Halifax Raiders members to an Halifax night club downtown that unbeknownst to them was a Russian mafia front. The story died down when the Halifax press was allegedly paid off to look the other way. Matt Kholin has yet to be charged.

Early Life
You might not guess it at first, but Kalevi Karhunen's journey to the SMJHL draft includes both the dark winter ponds of Finnish winter and the free-flowing roller hockey rinks of California's northern coast.

"I bring a little bit of both... " Kalevi said when asked about his double upbringing. "I like to think I pull together my Finnish grit, sisu and love of hockey with the skating and flow of California. I was born in Finland but my parents moved to the Bay Area when I was a little kid. Most of my childhood was spent with self-styled puck daddies of roller hockey rinks."

So how did the once dominant roller hockey player make the move to ice? "Well I was on a traveling team when I was nine or ten and a local ice hockey coach asked me to come try out after seeing some sick youtube clips of my play. The transition was a little rough but being a young kid it didn't take long until I was flying around on the ice."

Kalevi's speed and passing ability have been garnering interest among the SMJHL teams hoping for a new puck moving defenseman. Utilized heavily for quick breakouts and long accurate passes, Karhunen looks to expand on those skills in the upcoming season.

"I mean if you ask how I like to play the game, I really try to transition quickly and get that pass out to the forwards. If I can shut down the opposition in our zone and spring a guy out for a breakaway or 2 on 1 I think I'm doing my job pretty well, but I'm always looking to get better at the game."

When asked if he had any favorites among the SMJHL teams, Karhunen said as long as they have tacos and don't make him cut his hair, he's "totally stoked to go anywhere man."

Player Name: Osbert Whacker
3. International Play
Osbert Whacker's international playing career got off to a somewhat rocky start. When he first entered the SHL, the head of Team USA invited Whacker to a few social gatherings to meet some of the players and get acquainted with the organization as a whole. After going to some of the events, Whacker announced that he was separating himself from Team USA entirely and would not entertain joining them in the future.

After spending a bit of time in the SMJHL, Osbert was then approached by the head of newly formed Team Japan and asked if he would join them for international play. Whacker was at a bit of a crossroads with this as he had never been to Japan and isn't really into anime and most of that type of thing. Ultimately he decided it would actually be the best move for his career and joined team Japan.

Despite playing the second most minutes on the team, Whacker struggled mightily, failing to score any goals on his eighteen shots, while also only providing five assists and minimal defense. As a whole, Team Japan only won two games in their IIHF season, second worst to only Switzerland, but Whacker and the rest of the team provided some optimism for the future as they continue to grow.
