#1

[Image: falcons2.png]  Detroit Falcons vs Kelowna Knights  Knights

Today we are here to watch the Kelowna Knights and Detroit Falcons.  Kelowna is trying to prove that they will be championship contenders again this year after last years finals loss.  Detroit Falcons are also attempting to prove that they are something to take serious.  This game looks to be anyones game; however, Detroit is coming off of two winning games and Kelowna is on a two game losing streak.

The starting goaltenders today are Alexander Andersson-Grande and Jakub Hasek.

1st period:

Kelowna is off to the races, just 43 seconds in and Jason Bergenty scores a goal! He was assisted by Liam Hutchinson and Bryan Lee.  Detroit was not happy about this, and they came out strong after the first goal, and just 4 minutes into the game Oleg Scoreov ties the game up to make it 1-1. And Detroit seems to be hot with them scoring 3 more goals in the final 15 minutes of the game.  Espen Knutsen Jr. and Josh Driver both went off.  Knutsen scored 2 goals and an assist in just the first period and Driver also scored a goal and assisted Knutsen in both of his goals. It is safe to say that after this period Detroit is in control being up 4 goals to 1 even though Kelowna out shot Detroit 12-10.

2nd period:

All eyes were on Andersson-Grande at the start of this period with him just going for 6/10 saves in the first period.  To start the period Detroit star Knutsen Jr. was able to get a hat trick only 46 seconds into this period with his 3rd goal.  Kelowna is struggling to get anything going this period, and 7 minutes into this game there is another goal by Detroit from no one else other than Espen Knutsen; he has 4 goals so far and his teammates Josh Driver and Raino Kyllonen got 3 and 4 assists respectively.  With this goal Theo Haas enters the game as Kelowna's starting goalie, Alexander Andersson-Grande, only has 8 saves against 14 shots.  Kelowna is trying to prove that the game is not quite over with them scoring a second goal 10 minutes into the second period. Vadim Malichov scored his 6th goal this season making the score 6-2.  At the end of this period the Falcons are dominating this game out shooting Kelowna 15-3 in just this period

3rd period:

During this period Detroit was just working on holding the lead; however, Kelowna's starting left winger, Bobby Sharp, scored a goal a minute into this period.  Throughout this period Kelowna only got 6 shots vs the Falcons 11.  Josh Driver also got his second goal towards the end of this game.  Detroit was able to out shoot Kelowna through the whole game and seemed to play a perfect game as they ended up winning 7-3.

3 Star Players:
1 - Espen Knutsen Jr. (DET)
2 - Josh Driver (DET)
3 - Raino Kyllonen (DET)

Final Score:

This game involved one of the best performances from a single line that one will ever see in the SMJHL. The top line, consisting of Espen Knutsen Jr., Josh Driver and Raino Kyllonen, put in an absolutely spectacular display, with all 3 players getting four or more points. Knutsen Jr. was the big star, picking up 4 goals and 2 assists on the night, while Driver put up 2 goals and 3 assists and Kyllonen notched 4 helpers. Considering how much of a blowout the scoreline was, it's crazy that through all 7 Detroit goals, that top line had nearly three quarters of the game's goal involvements. The combined 15 points between them made up about 71% of the team's 21 points on the game.

A 7-3 scoreline is never one that will reflect well on either goaltender, but this one in particular is one that Alexander Andersson-Grande will rue his performance in. Making a measly 8 saves on 14 shots before getting pulled, his .571 save % was historically bad for Kelowna tonight. Jakub Hasek did better, allowing 3 goals on 21 shots, but overall it is still a rather sub-standard output. Theo Haas came in to relieve Andersson-Grande after the 6th goal the starter allowed, and he was a very pleasant surprise, saving 21 of 22 shots against him. Some may wonder if things could have turned out differently had Haas started the game!

Despite the blowout victory for Detroit today, the woes of their powerplay cannot be ignored. Out of their 9 powerplays on the game, they scored on only one of them, for a percentage of roughly 11%. In a game where Detroit dominated in nearly every department, heavily out-hitting, out-shooting and out-scoring the Knights, it can be hard to miss the blatant issues with their powerplay. Throughout their nine man-advantage situations, they struggled to get any sustained zone time, with most of their attempts to gain the zone resulting in easy clearances for Kelowna. There's nothing wrong with being a team that specializes at 5-on-5 play, but come playoff time Detroit will need to be raising that success rate on the powerplay.

1. PLAYER VS. PLAYER

This player versus player match up will be a little different, the criteria for today will be 3rd liners, either 3rd pair or 3rd forward line. We will be placing Satoshi Zigzagooney of Detroit's 3rd defensive pair against Liam Hutchinson of Kelowna's 3rd forward line. First category is points. Zigzagooney put up 2 points, both assists and had a +/- of +3 with zero shots on goal while Hutchinson also had 2 points, assists, a plus minus of +1 on 2 shots. The winner of the first category will be Satoshi Zigzagooney with his slightly better plus minus in the game.  Falcons The next category is defensive stats, Satoshi had 5 hits with zero shots blocked to Liam's 1 hit also without a blocked shot. Satoshi wins again with the extra hits.  Falcons The third and final category will look at all other statistics comprised of penalty minutes and minutes played to help decide who was the better 3rd liner in this game. Zigzagooney played 19:19 minutes without a single penalty in the game and Hutchinson played 13:48 minutes, while totaling 9 minutes in the penalty box. Normally the least amount of minutes played between the two players wins this category as their points are so close for the time difference but tonight Zigzagooney will take all 3 categories as Hutchinson's penalties are just too much. Better player, Satoshi Zigzagooney of  Falcons .

2. GAME CHANGING MISTAKE

Today's game changing mistake in this game comes early on in the first period after Kelowna scored the fiist goal of this game. Very early in the game, Bergenty scores to put the Knights up 1-0 at just the 43 second mark into the period. This momentum is normally a good thing in hockey although today it was a curse in disguise for Kelowna. Being up 1-0 so early in the game caused the Knights to get too comfortable thinking they had this game against Detroit in the bag and their comfortability cost them greatly. Not long after their first goal, Detroit would go on to score 6 unanswered goals in a row and the 6-1 deficit was just too much to overcome even with a couple more of their own later in the game.

3. THREE STAR ANALYSIS

1.  Falcons Espen Knutsen Jr.: Espen had an unreal performance in this game and is clearly the right choice for the first star. Knutsen put up a total of 6 points in this game, 4 of which were goals, 1 of which was the game winning goal. He ended the night with a +/- of +5, 7 shots on net all in 21 minutes played on the first line wing.

2.  Falcons Josh Driver: Driver had a 5 point game and it's not surprise he cracked the three stars of the game with the second star. Josh put up 5 points tonight with 2 goals, 3 assists, one of them being a primary assist on Knutsen's game winning goal. Driver ended the night as a +5 with 3 shots on goal (great shooting %) and 1 hit in almost 19 minutes played on the first line wing.

3.  Falcons Raino Kyllonen: The "playmaking god" as fans have referred to him after tonight's performance. Raino totalled 4 points this game, all of them assists, he was a +5 for the game, no penalties, 1 shot, 2 hits with just over 19 minutes played on the first line. very deserving of 3 star honours.

Chris Johnson award. This award is given to the player who does something, but isn’t recognised for it.

Bryan Lee on Kelowna Knights team in this game maneged to squeeze in two assists. Pretty good statline for someone whose team lost a game and scored only 3 goals. He managed to get this statline while only playing 14 minutes a game. I have to say that as a center this wasn’t greatest day for Bryan in the face off circle winning only 7 out of 22. On the bright side Bryan recorded +1 in this tremendous loss. Also this was tied best in a team. Tied with his linemates. Everyone else on the team was either neutral or negative. Again tremendous game for a third liner.

It is pretty hard to pick an award winner from Falcons team, while some of the guys recorded 4,5, 6 points in this game. But I will go with Satoshi Zigzagooney. Guy also two assists in this match-up. Pretty decent when your team scores 7 goals. Also Satoshi recorded amazing plus minus coeficient in this game. +3 while playing allmost 20 minutes in this game, out of those 20 minutes he played 7 of them on powerplay. While playing as a bottom six defender. Satoshi led his team in hits given in this game with 5! Again have to say big day for young defender while all the spotlight goes to other.
