Prospect Pool Rankings: Skaters of the S46 and S47 Draft Classes

Welcome to the S47 Prospect Pool Rankings! I took a closer look at each teams prospects and wanted to find out who is best settled for the future. For this, I looked at each player's TPE and compared them to the rest of their respective draft class. I took the average of each class and ranked the prospects against that average. I only looked at the Skaters for now and the S46 and S47 Classes because only a handful of prospects are from older Classes. I only looked at the prospects linked in each team's roster section. If you are missing someone, please get your roster page up to date. And please just link to the Player Page, it makes my life so much easier.

I came up with these rankings:

For the S46 Draft Class:

More than 130%: Generational Talent
More than 120%: Franchise Talent
More than 115%: Elite Talent
More than 110%: Very Good Talent
More than 105%: Good Talent
More than 95%: Average Talent
More than 80%: Below Average Talent
More than 50%: Long Shot Talent
More than 0%: No Talent

For the S47 Draft Class:

More than 122%: Generational Talent
More than 116%: Franchise Talent
More than 112%: Elite Talent
More than 108%: Very Good Talent
More than 103%: Good Talent
More than 95%: Average Talent
More than 85%: Below Average Talent
More than 65%: Long Shot Talent
More than 0%: No Talent

Without further ado, let's take a look at the Rankings!

1. Buffalo Stampede Stampede

The Stampede definitely have the best prospect pool in the league right now. Not only do they have depth, they also have incredible top end talent, especially at the center position. They have generational talent Monkey D. Luffy and franchise talents Bobby Sharp and Kristoffer Svensson down the middle, all drafted in the S46 SHL Entry Draft. Then you have Kalevi Kurhanen at Defense out of the S46 Draft and Lallo Selman, the Left Winger who got drafted in the S47 Draft, both Elite Talents. It's incredible that the Challenge Cup winner also has the best prospect pool but here we are. The Buffalo Stampede are scary.

Prospect Pool:

1. Monkey D. Luffy - Center - S46 - 640 TPE - Generational Talent
2. Bobby Sharp - Center - S46 - 612 TPE - Franchise Talent
3. Kristoffer Svensson - Center - S46 - 599 TPE - Franchise Talent
4. Kalevi Karhunen - Defense - S46 - 569 TPE - Elite Talent
5. Lallo Selman - Left Wing - S47 - 412 TPE - Elite Talent
6. Nicolaj Muller - Left Wing - S47 - 381 TPE - Good Talent
7. Josh Driver - Center - S47 - 330 TPE - Below Average Talent
8. Raino Kyllonen - Center - S46 - 405 TPE - Below Average Talent
9. Eric Vanderberg - Defense - S46 - 382 TPE - Long Shot Talent
10. Wibbly McButternutz - Defense - S47 - 233 TPE - No Talent

2. Tampa Bay Barracuda Barracuda

The Tampa Bay Barracuda are very close to having the best prospect pool in the league. When players from the S46 Draft Class will promote to the SHL, they will have the best pool because they had an incredible S47 Draft, adding three Franchise Talents and two Elite Talents to their prospects. Combine that with two more franchise talents in Matt Kholin and Olivier Cloutier and you are looking at a very scare team 5 seasons down the road. They're really only lacking that generational talent for now.

Prospect Pool:

1. Matt Kholin - Center - S46 - 617 TPE - Franchise Talent
2. Olivier Cloutier - Right Wing - S46 - 600 TPE - Franchise Talent
3. Gunnar Söderberg - Right Wing - S47 - 432 TPE - Franchise Talent
4. Austin Roenick - Right Wing - S47 - 428 TPE - Franchise Talent
5. Espen Knutsen Jr. - Center - S47 - 423 TPE - Franchise Talent
6. Akashi SixNine - Defense - S47 - 418 TPE - Elite Talent
7. Cullen Gray - Left Wing - S47 - 417 TPE - Elite Talent
8. Joln DuBolk - Defense - S46 - 525 TPE - Good Talent
9. Miikka Salo - Defense - S47 - 304 TPE - Below Average Talent
10. Lunga Gumba - Left Wing - S46 - 318 TPE - Long Shot Talent

3. New England Wolfpack Wolfpack

New England had a strong S47 Draft, adding a Franchise Talent and two Elite Talents to their pool. Then you have Gordie Boomhover who is just at the edge of being called generational and you have a pretty good future ahead for the Wolfpack. You have to consider that the Wolfpack also have the most rookies playing in the SHL at the moment.

Prospect Pool:

1. Gordie Boomhover - Left Wing - S46 - 623 TPE - Franchise Talent
2. Eko van Otter - Left Wing - S47 - 428 TPE - Franchise Talent
3. Joseph Laraque - Left Wing - S47 - 412 TPE - Elite Talent
4. Slap McShotty - Center - S47 - 409 TPE - Elite Talent
5. Thomas Bathory - Defense - S47 - 398 TPE - Very Good Talent
6. Boris Poroshenko - Center - S47 - 318 TPE - Below Average Talent
7. Zach Laliberte - Right Wing - S46 - 422 TPE - Below Average Talent

4. Hamilton Steelhawks Steelhawks

The Steelhawks had a very good haul in the S47 Draft, adding two franchise talents to their prospect pool in Sami Rieder and Aaron Wilson, both from the Vancouver Whalers. Then you also habe Zejnieks as a franchise talent and O'Koivu as a good talent.

Prospect Pool:

1. Sami Rieder - Center - S47 - 426 TPE - Franchise Talent
2. Aaron Wilson - Center - S47 - 423 TPE - Franchise Talent
3. Kalvins Zejnieks - Center - S46 - 582 TPE - Franchise Talent
4. Anastasia O'Koivu - Defense - S46 - 522 TPE - Good Talent
5. Brock Emmerton - Left Wing - S46 - 454 TPE - Below Average Talent
6. Dale Miller - Left Wing - S47 - 324 - Below Average Talent
7. Jake Peralta - Center - S47 - 257 TPE - Long Shot Talent
8. Gabster TheMagnificient - S46 - 277 TPE - Long Shot Talent

5. Edmonton Blizzard Blizzard

The Edmonton Blizzard prospect pool is led by franchise talents Karlstraße Scholz and Julio Tokolosh. Then you have center Marc Hagan and Banananak, both drafted in S47.

Prospect Pool:

1. Karlstraße Scholz - Defense - S46 - 614 TPE - Franchise Talent
2. Julio Tokolosh - Right Wing - S47 - 428 TPE - Franchise Talent
3. Marc Hagan - Center - S47 - 406 TPE - Very Good Talent
4. Boruvka Banananak - Right Wing - S47 - 375 TPE - Good Talent
5. James Truong - Right Wing - S46 - 473 TPE - Average Talent
6. Savoli Tankovic - Right Wing - S47 - 313 TPE - Below Average Talent
7. Cant Eykhil - Center - S46 - 349 TPE - Long Shot Talent
8. Hans Zucker - Right Wing - S46 - 233 TPE - No Talent

6. Los Angeles Panthers Panthers

Quality over quantity for the Los Angeles Panthers. Generational Talent and S46 SMJHL MVP Cannellini leads off the prospect pool for the Panthers, followed by S47 draftee Tony Ford who is looking to become a franchise player in the future. Theo Morgan is a good talent with lots of upside.

Prospect Pool:

1. Borromini Cannellini - Center - S46 - 635 TPE - Generational Talent
2. Tony Ford - Defense - S47 - 439 TPE - Franchise Talent
3. Theo Morgan - Right Wing - S47 - 390 TPE - Good Talent
4. Max Rockatansky - Center - S46 - 394 TPE - Below Average Talent

7. San Francisco Pride pride

The Pride have a pretty deep pool up front. Knurtsson and Zadina a franchise level talents and Nathan Explosion is doing elite things right now.

Prospect Pool:

1. Knute Knurtsson - Center - S46 - 608 TPE - Franchise Talent
2. Filip Zadina - Right Wing - S47 - 431 TPE - Franchise Talent
3. Nathan Explosion - Left Wing - S46 - 566 TPE - Elite Talent
4. Vadim Malichov - Center - S47 - 370 TPE - Average Talent
5. Spencer MacLean - Center - S47 - 350 TPE - Average Talent
6. Jaguar Johnson - Left Wing - S47 - 309 TPE - Below Average Talent
7. Yoshimitsu McCloud - Right Wing - S46 - 317 TPE - Long Shot Talent

8. Chicago Syndicate syndicate

The Syndicate had a very good S47 draft, as they added generational talent Martijn Westbroek to their roster along with Corey Kennedy who has franchise potential. As for now, Westbroek seems to be the only player of the S47 Draft Class with generational potential.

Prospect Pool:

1. Martijn Westbroek - Center - S47 - 453 TPE - Generational Talent
2. Corey Kennedy - Defense - S47 - 430 TPE - Franchise Talent
3. Eva Lykke Aparjode - Left Wing - S46 - 478 TPE - Average Talent
4. Jules L'Eclair - Right Wing - S47 - 308 TPE - Long Shot Talent
5. Gunnar Petrov - Left Wing - S47 - 305 TPE - Long Shot Talent
6. Liam Hutchinson - Right Wing - S46 - 381 TPE - Long Shot Talent
7. Jules Watt - Defense - S46 - 369 TPE - Long Shot Talent
8. Joe Ackroyd - Defense - S47 - 268 TPE - Long Shot Talent

9. Minnesota Chiefs Chiefs

The Chiefs like quality over quantity, too. Two franchise talents in Seger and Gibbles along with Mander as an elite talent is nothing to squeeze at.

Prospect Pool:

1. Mathias Seger - Defense - S46 - 600 TPE - Franchise Talent
2. Collin Gibbles - Right Wing - S46 - 597 TPE - Franchise Talent
3. Jerry Mander - Right Wing - S46 - 568 TPE - Elite Talent
4. Igor Volkov - Defense - S47 - 241 TPE - Long Shot Talent

10. New Orleans Specters Specters

The Specters are looking pretty solid. They have franchise talent Jimmy Slothface and two elite talents in Michael Fox and S47 Draftee Charlie Serpe. The Challenge Cup finalist is doing a pretty good job to keep an influx of talent coming.

Prospect Pool:

1. Jimmy Slothface - Right Wing - S46 - 609 TPE - Franchise Talent
2. Michael Fox - Right Wing - S46 - 572 TPE - Elite Talent
3. Charlie Serpe - Defense - S47 - 422 TPE - Elite Talent
4. Osbert Whacker - Defense - S46 - 467 TPE - Average Talent
5. Basil Magnicotta - Defense - S46 - 464 TPE - Average Talent

11. Winnipeg Jets Jets

The Winnipeg Jets were certainly hoping for more out of 1st Overall Jax Duggan, who right now is looking like a Very Good Talent but not a franchise player. But it's early in his career and he has time to right the ship. The Jets do have a franchise talent in Nick Brain though who should join the Jets for next season.

Prospect Pool:

1. Nick Brain - Right Wing - S46 - 618 TPE - Franchise Talent
2. Commander Shepard - Left Wing - S46 - 544 TPE - Very Good Talent
3. Noah Gallagher - Left Wing - S47 - 399 TPE - Very Good Talent
4. Jax Duggan - Defense - S47 - 395 TPE - Very Good Talent
5. Juulius Smonk - Left Wing - S47 - 246 TPE - Long Shot Talent

12. Calgary Dragons Dragons

The most storied franchise in the SHL is having a pretty thin pool. Batsbak and Parmborg are looking to become elite talents though and Vzrala is someone to keep an eye on.

Prospect Pool:

1. Barry Batsbak - Center - S46 - 568 TPE - Elite Talent
2. Esa Parmborg - Center - S46 - 409 TPE - Elite Talent
3. Bernik Vzrala - Defense- S46 - 515 TPE - Good Talent
4. Oliver Klozoff - Defense - S46 - 409 TPE - Below Average Talent
5. Olin O'Dowd - Defense - S46 - 253 - Long Shot Talent

13. Manhattan Rage Rage

The Rage are an up and coming team in the SHL, but their prospect pool is nearly non existent, aside from Doskocil who seems to be a very good talent.

Prospect Pool:

1. Andrej Doskocil - Defense - S46 - 535 TPE - Very Good Talent
2. David Vent - Defense - S46 - 413 TPE - Below Average Talent
3. Andris Dzerins - Center - S46 - 223 TPE - No Talent

14. Texas Renegades Renegades

Can we even call this a pool? Whatever, the only prospect for the Renegades is Tougard and a very good talent.

Prospect Pool:

1. Tyler Tougard - Right Wing - S46 - 545 TPE - Very Good Talent

15. Toronto North Stars Stars

Toronto does have six prospects, but there is no one that could potentially really help the North Stars in the future. They probably need to start drafting better in the next drafts.

Prospect Pool:

1. Troy Reynolds - Right Wing - S46 - 483 TPE - Average Talent
2. Donny McMasters - Defense - S46 - 427 TPE - Below Average Talent
3. Gaspard Boone - Center - S46 - 383 TPE - Long Shot Talent
4. Ja'aj Coitus-Wagg - Center - S47 - 284 TPE - Long Shot Talent
5. Valeri Tikhonov - Left Wing - S46 - 294 TPE - Long Shot Talent
6. Mattie Brunton - Defense - S47 - 214 TPE - No Talent

16. West Kendall Platoon Platoon

The Platoon sacrificed a lot to become better now. That did result in them having the worst prospect pool in the league, with only three players and Wawazat as their best prospect who is only an average talent. Maybe it was worth it though if they manage to go deep this year.

Prospect Pool:

1. Taisei-Tiikeri Wawazat - Center - S46 - 478 TPE - Average Talent
2. Petr Mikulak - Right Wing - S46 - 449 TPE - Below Average Talent
3. Aleksandr Scherbak - Center - S46 - 418 TPE - Below Average Talent

Great work and a ton of research went into that!

People tend to forget that Selman, Muller and Driver who we picked in S47 all created after the SMJHL draft and therefore had less TPE opportunities available to them I wonder how the rankings would change if you would incorporate your TEPI% rankings into that.

True, that's always the problem with only looking at TPE and trying to project something from it. That's why TEPI definitely made sense but it's way too much work now.

Great list. It is too bad Dominic Montgomery and Patrice Nadeau missed the cut since they are both huge talents, but I understand. Sami your media has always been a good read, keep it up Cheers

Is easier to draft when you have picks, which recently has been rare
