What young players in the SHL should you draft and stash? here we target those players who will one day turn into draft day stars.

Oliver Cleary @Buster is clearly someone to look into. Drafted fourth overall by the LA Panthers, Cleary will immediately be called up to play in the SHL, which is quite the achievement. He's definitely a player that everyone in fantasy leagues should think about drafting. If we take a look at the Preseason Index, we can see that Cleary might not have put up a lot of points, 5 in 50 games, but his defensive stats show great potential. He's second in the team in plus/minus, and he's had 88 hits and 51 shots blocked. It might not seem like a big deal if we compare him to other players, but it does show that the kid has the potential to be big. It all depends on if he progresses well in the league and if he can stand out among the other rookies. I definitely recommend picking Cleary rather than any other random player if you have to complete your defense.

This article discusses some of our boldest predictions about the upcoming S48 season.

I think that the winnipeg jets will win our conference because of the great preseason and start we have had. We have so many awesome young players just coming up and a lot of our roster guys hitting milestone numbers. We also signed a major free agent in Crossfit Jesus and locked up our core so we are very strong for this year and in the future after CFJ retires. I think that Winnipeg's third line will surprise with extra scoring and depth, exactly what a championship team would need to go and win. Winnipeg also has a great tandem with both Vivian Leblanc and Cedric Moreau capable of starting. And I think the success will carry over into the playoffs because there's a lot of players that can be pretty heroic and carry the team. I think Winnipeg will make it at least to the conference finals and has a good chance of winning the cup if everything goes the right way.

this season the regression will be effect their Regular Season performance and it depends on the other teams if they make the playoffs or not.

Jason Visser will have his next bounce back Season in his career and lead the league with points and goals. With that the Winnipeg Jets will be back in the Playoffs.

SHL sleepers and undervalued players:
We give you some sleepers to pursue and value picks to consider in the upcoming league drafts.

Team: San Francisco Pride

So not a lot of Pride players get picked in fantasy - not overly surprising given their lackluster offensive performance over the last few seasons.
However, there are a few players who could be considered as potential pickups or swaps for the busts in your fantasy drafts.

F - Jeff Brogen - With 11 points in his first 12 games, Brogen has been a consistent producer. He gets top line and powerplay minutes so the opportunities are there for him to score points. He is average in hits and shot blocks, so he would be a decent pickup if you need to bolster a spot there.

F - Joseph Lombardi - He is in the league top 10 with 7 goals so far this season. Goals are important and he leads the team in this category. Downside he doesn't get a lot of hits and only plays 2nd line minutes, although he does get powerplay time.

F - Vince Reaper - He has 6 goals on the season already including his first hat trick. With top line minutes and powerplay production, he is definitely someone to consider.

Calling it after hype is probably an exaggeration of the initial projections of this player. While still developing the young S45 defender has to be said to be past his prime already. As he stepped out of smjhl and on to the big stage he's been crunching third line minutes while berrating the team with insults on their performance. The player has also been seen smoking juul and wearing obscenely big chains while making no effort to improve his game on the ice. All the player seem to focus on is "his boys" and whatever road kill of a girl he can find outside the motel.
While he is destined to always be around its clear that he will never live up to the past of his relatives who's now retired in the league.

Samuel Jalopski continues to baffle everyone with how little effort can be mad while having opinions on everything. Who knows what Buffalo was smoking when they drafted him. @ThatDamnWalrus

When I look at a group of players for my team I would want young players on the verge of breaking out. The Smeb family is the obvious answer and the family has supplied some of the best young and diverse talent in the entire league. Parker Smeb had a phenomenal rookie season and many are betting on him breaking out this year, he had 10 goals and 18 assists to go along with 138 hits so you just know he's going to be a major fantasy player in the future. Daniel/Chico Smeb are both going into their third SHL season and have a ton of experience already under their belts so if they're given special teams time there's a good chance both have huge seasons. Kit Smeb is still considered by many to be too small to play in the SHL but if he fixes his motivation issues there's a solid chance he could have a breakout year as well.

S48 Positional Battles:
The Hockey News draft guide takes a look at some of the leagues most exciting potential position battles for the upcoming season.

No one thinks goalies are important in fantasy eh? Well maybe it's time to rethink that. Having the right goalie can make or break your team and waiting until the last moment to choose one could put you in a bad spot.

The first ones usually gone are West Kendall and Edmonton Blizzard, and for good reason. With solid tpe goalies in net, they can be counted on to rack up wins and look good doing so. Their team does not usually carry them through games, quite the opposite.

New Orleans Specters and Buffalo Stampede Goalies are next. While lower on TPE, their teams still contribute to helping them get a good win stat, which is crucial to fantasy goalies.

Texas Renegades and Calgary Dragons are a little more iffy. Very high tpe and young goalies, sometimes the team does not perform in front of them, leading to less fantasy points overall.

It is not hard to look at the rosters and the standings and have an instant feel about who will, and won't, be contenders coming into this season. However, not quite everything is what it seems at face value. To start the season, the Manhattan Rage has had a rough start of it. Going against the defending champs multiple times in a row doesn't help matter,s but on paper they should be performing much better than they currently are. The Rage will not miss the playoffs this season and will, in fact, will not even be a wildcard team. They won't pass the West Kendall Platoon in the matter, but they are a relatively young but strong team who seems to be underperforming pretty heavily at the moment. One big question mark for the future as well is signing Poopity Scoop to a longer deal, as his contract does expire at the end of this season.

Most Valuable Player:

The MVP race has a very strong leader after the preseason is Jason Visser with 76 points and 35 goals. But not to be forgotten is his reunited teammate Cross Fit Jesus. The pendulum could swing his way in the regular season. But let’s not forget other players like; Mike Izzy, Louie Garret, and Mikhail Lokitonov who also do a lot of the heavy lifting for their own teams.

Rookie of the Year:

I think this years rookie of the year will be one of the tightest races in a long time. Almost every team has an up and coming star young player who is ready to make a name for themselves. Leading the way is Matt Kholin who had 41 points in the pre season for a 9 point lead over the next player; Akashi SixNine who has 32 points as a rookie defenseman. The list continues with elite prospects like, Jimmy Slothface, Borromini Cannellini, Collin Gibbles, Huro Fujikawa, Kit Smeb, etc. As of now the leader among rookies in the regular season is Nick Klaus. In fact there are about 40 rookies playing this season in the SHL, and 8 teams with 3 or more rookies in the lineup. Not to mention a few rookie goaltenders also playing.

One of the most intriguing position battles on any team is in goal. The Manhattan Rage are one team that is having that debate with star prospect Peter Larson waiting in the wings to take over as their goalie of the future. After the Rage traded up to acquire Larson in the S46 SHL Entry Draft, there have been questions about how long it would take him to reach the SHL. The Rage still had a young-ish incumbent starter in Scottey Crawfling, but felt that his inconsistency at the SHL level warranted looking for a future starter. While Crawfling has shown an ability to steal games dating back to his SMJHL days with the Colorado Raptors, he plays with a volatility in net that makes you wonder which version you’re going to get on a night in, night out basis. Larson’s steady presence and maturity beyond his years in the SMJHL has him as one of the most highly anticipated prospects across the league and after the team’s early struggles, Rage fans have been clamoring for the team to call up Larson and usher in their future star. One fan who called in to SESPN 98.7 FM’s daily Rage show had this to say on the goalie situation, “Crawfling is fine but watching Larson, you can see he’s the future. We need to call him up or this team is going to regress and lose some key players.” With rumors already swirling in the New York media about contract extensions for key players like Poopity Scoop and the fact that Crawfling’s contract is up at the end of this year, one wonders how long it’ll take for the Rage to call up their goalie of the future and see what they truly have before being forced to thrust him in as a full time starter, perhaps sooner rather than later.

Come the end of Seeason 48, three players will be on the minds of everyone in the SMJHL for Rookie of The Year honours! Those player are none other than the "one named man", Cody @Winter is Coming, Hugh Jazz @"ThatDamnMcJesus" and Delver Fudgeson @Massive Coiler. All three players are leading the SMJHL in points by a rookie, but each individual one brings their own success to the table as to why they should be named rookie of the year. Cody has put up 11 points in 16 games, 6 goals and 5 assists from the second line. Jazz is leading the group in points but is doing so from Montreal's top line, currently he is leading his entire club in points with 17, 7 goals and 10 assists. Lastly, Delver Fudgeson has put up 11 points, as a defender mind you with 3 goals and 8 assists on Lethbridge where he is being double played (1st and 4th pairings).

Prospect report: Heat Siecker

Heat Sieckeris a two way defender playing for Colorado Raptors in the Smjhl.
With great size, 6ft 1in and 210 lbs he is physically ready to play in the major league but need to develop his on ice performance. Siecker has had a rough start to his rookie season in Colorado, only puting up one assist in 16 games. With a +/- of -3 and 12 penaly minutes it shows that he hasn't adjusted to the pace of play in the SMJHL yet. While he haven't shown up on the score boards very often he displays great offensive instincts by joining the rush and creating opportunities for his teammates.
As the season goes I belive he will make tremendous improvements to both his offense and defensive game. Together with Derek Bohne he will form the future top pair for Colorado. I see him as a highly talented player with a huge offensive upside, right now I see him as a late to mid first round pick but I believe he will only rise innthe rankings as the season goes along.

As the winner of the last fantasy draft, I like to think I know what I'm doing (editor's note : he just got lucky). First of all you want to draft your 3 forwards with your 3 first picks. There are a lot more fantasy sleepers/gems d-men than forwards. You need to watch out for older players who are deep in regression. You also need to factor the linemates as it can greatly impact a forward performance. I expect a bounce back performance from @Robert Phelps who won't have Cameron Carter on his line to steal his hits. @Manuel Gotze focused on his hits this offseason and is nearing his prime, would be an excellent value pick in round 2-3.

You now select your two d-men in round 4 and 5. Guys like Bitties, Grease, Driftwood etc will be long gone. Look for players playing on a weaker team for shot blocks purpose or guys who can provide offense with fairly good hitting. @Jon Toner had a rough go last season but I expect him to have an amazing season fantasy wise value. He's by far the best player on a rebuilding team who has the worst roster on paper.

The Jesster award is always a hard fought one, and this season is going to be insane with all the young talent making their debuts in the SHL. Between them, two mildly overlooked talents, even though preseason has somewhat changed this, are Matt Kholin and Jimmy Slothface. Matt especially, since he is already won a best rookie award in the SMJHL, might be a dark horse for the upcoming fight. With decent ice time in his team, he should score more than enough to catch the eye, and if not outright win, at least get nominated for the award. Jimmy is a bit of a late bloomer then, having a pretty rough go at the SMJHL after his rookie season, but in SHL he could get the new start he is looking for, and get ahead of the pack with his incredible talent. It will be close between these two, so keep your eyes open, because this is going to be a race of many horses.

If you are not completely basing your draft off the season 48 preseason then, your sleeper could be Lil Manius in upcoming SHL Season-48 fantasy draft. This Winnipeg Jets forward is poised to have a monster fantasy season. Manius is coming off what proved to be a very nice fantasy pre-season. Although Season 47, saw Lil have decent fantasy season but it was nothing that amazing. Although this preseason saw Lil Manius light up the box score in a few categories. Manius physical play certainly became known as this spunky forward racked 213 hits, placing him third in the league in hitting this preseason. Lil was also the highest scoring right-winger with 57 points consisted of a well balanced of 29 goal and 28 assists. Those 29 goals also resulted in Manius being tied with two other player for second in goals scored this preseason. With Lil’ taking a little larger role with the Jets this season it can only be expected that his fantasy value will grow as well.
