(This post was last modified: 06-25-2019, 08:31 PM by Hallsy.)

Today we will be reviewing one of the first games of the regular season between the Lethbridge lions and the Montreal Militia. Montreal is the expected favorite today and honestly, Lethbridge didn't like this expectation as they peppered the Militia's netminder 31-18 however one of the strengths of this Montreal team is their netminder and well, he was a wall today as he stopped all 31 shots tonight and had a performance that is going to be huge for the success of Montreal's season. Montreal scored 2 goals in the first 2 periods to seal the game as they took this game 2-0 quite comfortably. The offense was provided, Kristoffer Svensson and Herry Morris IV, two of the veteran forwards on the Montreal team, who showed the rookies how to play the game at the SMJHL level and that couldn't been able to be done without the help of the puck moving abilities of Glavin Hughes as he collected 2 assists on the night a big reason why Montreal was able to hold Lethbridge to 0 scores was their penalty kill f Montreal as they successful were able to kill off the 5 power-plays the refs gave to Lethbridge. Without the strong PK, they probably wouldn't be able to win this game, and honestly, your goalie is your best penalty killer.

Three stars for each team:

Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova was the best player of the game for Montreal, and the two other stars for Montreal in this game has to go to Gavin Hughes, who got 2 assists, and finally, Kristoffer Svensson, who scored the GWG, won 10/19 draws, and he was a vital part of Montreal's Penalty Kill. the best three players for Lethbridge has to go to  Boruvka Banananak, as the teams best player, got 7 shots on net was dangerous all night, maybe need to score but got all the chances in the world. The second star for Lethbridge Joln DuBolk , Joln played a 200 foot game, 3 shots, 3 hits, and has 2 blocked shots in 20 minutes of ice time, was kind of a heart and soul performance out of him. Lastly, the third star of the lions has to go to Cant Eykhil   , might not have been the best player on the ice buy won a lot of draws(13/23), he played a lot of ice time, physical with 3 hits and was an even player. He was kinda like an unsung hero for the lions in this game

Now it's time for the Canadian Tire Unsing Hero of the Game, presented by Titos Vodka. Titos Vodka, just Vodka, gets you drunk.

Tonight's honors go to Montreals Kristoffer Svensson! Svensson had a phenomenal night, opening up the scoring just three minutes into the first period and allowing the Impact to play a neutral zone trap for the remainder of the contest. Svensson also kept the pressure on defensively, with two hits and a shot block for his squads winning effort. Congratulate Kristoffer Svensson on being tonights Canadian Tire Unsung Hero of the Game!

Welcome back to another edition of Nour's 3 Focuses of the Game!

Comment 1: Special Teams
Special teams were a big focus in this game, but as opposed to powerplay goals being the difference-maker, Montreal's shut down penalty kill allowed them to hang on to their tenuous 2 goal lead and hold Lethbridge's offense at bay. Two key members of Montreal's penalty kill were Griffith Cadwalader and Zarley Zalapski, who both logged big minutes (5:46 and 4:25, respectively) keeping Montreal 5 for 5 on the PK, and Zalapski lead the Militia with 2 big shot blocks during those long defensive shifts. What a strong night for these players, and a strong defensive showing by the entire Militia squad to make up for a slower offensive night. (112 Words)

Comment 2: Poor Performance of the Game
Despite the difference in shot totals the game was relatively close almost all the way through in regards to goals scored. Lethbridge had a lot of opportunity in the 2nd period to make something happen and close the gap between themselves and Montreal but they failed to perform. Its hard to rest the blame on one person's shoulders, but with a lead so small it's hard not to point to Eva Lykke Aparjode who was poised to be a big difference-maker. Aparjode lead in total minutes with 22:16, as well as leading in Powerplay minutes with 5:34, but was still a non-factor on the scoreboard and only mustered 2 shots total. (113 Words)

Comment 3: Nour's Moment of the Game
Code:
11:33 of 2nd period - Stopped by Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova with a rebound.
11:35 of 2nd period - Shot by Joln DuBolk.
11:35 of 2nd period - Stopped by Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova without a rebound.
11:36 of 2nd period - Kristoffer Svensson wins face-off versus Cant Eykhil in Montreal Militia zone.
11:57 of 2nd period - Shot by Joln DuBolk.
11:57 of 2nd period - Stopped by Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova without a rebound.
11:58 of 2nd period - Gordon Bombay wins face-off versus Rudy Mentz in Montreal Militia zone.
12:15 of 2nd period - Shot by Gordon Bombay.
12:15 of 2nd period - Stopped by Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova with a rebound.

The 2nd period of this game was a hectic one for both of these teams, and no moment captured that quite like this portion about halfway through the second period did! It's no surprise that Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova was this game's star, but this moment was key for keeping the Militia in the lead. Montreal faced a lot of penalty trouble in the 2nd and were out-shot 14-8, but O'Koivu-Volkova's big stops were instrumental for this team's penalty killing, and he came up big with 4 stops in 40 seconds, shutting the door on a scrambling Lethbridge offense. If he faltered here, there's not real way to know if this game ends the same way, and that's why Aleksi earns this week's Moment of the Game. (125 Words)

Home Depot Renovation Section Brick Wall of the Game award:

This award is given out every time there is a dominate goalie performance and today that award is given to none other than Aleksi - O'Koivo Volkvoa of the Montreal Militia who turned after 31 shots on way to his first shut out performance of the season and man oh man did the Militia need that.

Only totalling 18 shots on net, the Lethbridge Lions of Alberta, Canada actually doubled their shot total, yet Aleksi kept the game out of reach for the opposing Lions.

Thanks for coming to my show and seeing the Brick Wall of the Game award.
