Armada Anchorage Amada vs Anaheim Outlaws Outlaws

Game Link

First Period
In terms of shots the first period was a balanced outing between the Armada and Outlaws. Both teams managed 5 shots. However, it was Anchorage late in the period at 16:36 to strike first. With the assistance of Jonas Larsen and Johnny Sins, Jake Primeau scored his 2nd goal of the season. The rest of the period breezed by including a stretch of 3 minutes without play stopping.

Second Period
The Outlaws came out of the intermission determined to tie things up. At 5:04 into the 2nd period, Anthony Banthony scored his second of the season with Jerry Mander getting the assist. With the score tied up, it appeared to be a new game. Then at 7:47 Anthony Banthony of Anaheim gets called for Goalie Interference, sending the Armada to the powerplay. 6 seconds later, Jonas Larsen scores his 8th of the season with help from Tony Ford and Gabriel Johnson. The Armada take the lead back just 3 minutes after Anaheim tied the game. Then at 17:58, Jake Primeau who got the scoring started in the game finds the back of the net for his 3rd goal of the season with help from Johnny Sins and Jonas Larsen. The shots for this period were Anchorage: 7 and Anaheim: 13.

Third Period
The Armada enter the third period with a 3-1 lead. At 11:11, Elijah Jones scores his 4th goal of the season with the help of Jonas Larsen and Jake Primeau. With this assist, Jake Primeau has registered 3 points. Jonas Larsen’s 3rd assist, and early goal, makes it a 4 point game for Larsen. A few moments later, Anaheim’s Dylon McIntyre gets a little too rough and instigates a fight with Spencer MacLean. With the game getting out of hand, emotions are flying high. The Anaheim Outlaws are unable to mount a comeback and fall to the Anchorage Armada in regulation. Shots for this period were 7 for Anchorage and 6 for Anaheim. The overall shots in the game were 19 for Anchorage and 24 for Anaheim. Anchorage’s Colt Beckett goes 23/24 (0.958) and improves to 1-1-2 for the season. Patrick Niederreiter saves 15 of 19 shots (0.789) and has a 1-2-0 record now.

Comment 1: Jonas Larsen

Jonas Larsen shined for Anchorage in Anchorage Armada's win against the Anaheim Outlaws. Jonas contributed a goal and 3 assists for a total of 4 points in the 4-1 victory. Jonas was in on every single goal that Anchorage scored. It's safe to say that without Larsen in the lineup, Anchorage would not have had as easy of a time. Jonas contributed 2 hits in the game as well, laying his body on the line and produced all without a significant amount of powerplay time and just 17 minutes played in the game. It's easy to see why Jonas Larsen is listed as the first star.

COMMENT 1 – MVP OF THE GAME
This was a tough call ultimately between Jonas Larsen who scored a goal and was credited for three assists, and Jake Primeau, who scored two goals during the game and was credited with an assist, as well. However, we ultimately decided to grant the award to Larsen, as earning four points matches the total amount of points the Armada would score that game, meaning he was partly responsible for 100% of all scoring during the game, while Primeau was only involved in 75% of the offense for the Armada. In addition, Larsen was credited with two primary assists of the three assists he earned, meaning he didn’t just rack up all those assists from not being the direct playmaker of the goals he was responsible for. There is an argument to be made as we said for Primeau, but for the reason stated above, Larsen was granted the most valuable player award for the game.

COMMENT 2 – MOST IMPORTANT PLAY
After some deep thought, we have decided to award the play of the gam to Jonas Larsen’s second period goal, which came at around eight minutes into the period on the power-play. The reason we’re naming this play as the most important play of the game was because the score was previously tied before the goal, as the Outlaws managed to tie the game at 1-1 around five minutes into the second period. Not only did Larsen’s goal allow the Armada to regain a 2-1 lead, but it would end up being the game winning goal, as the Outlaws would not be able to overcome losing the lead in the second period and wouldn’t score another goal for the remaining duration of the game. This is quite the impressive game for Larsen when you think about it, as not only was he named the game’s MVP, but he scored the goal for our most important play of the game award, as well.

COMMENT 3 – UNSUNG HERO
This was another tough call for us but we ultimately decided to name rookie Elijah Jones was the unsung hero of the game. Jones had a really impressive game as a rookie as he did manage to score his fourth goal of his rookie campaign during the third period. However, that alone isn’t why we’re giving him this award. What might go unnoticed his box score was that he was a positive +3 in the plus/minus statistic. What this means is that while Jones may have only earned a single point during the game, he was still on the ice for 75% of the Armada’s offense during the game. Jones certainly had a positive offensive impact for the Armada even though he was only credited with a single point during the game, and for these reasons, we believe his performance deserves a stronger look and is named the unsung hero of the game for the Armada.

1. Goalie Rundown

This was simply a bad day for Anaheims Patrick Niederreiter. Niederreiter could only stop 15 of 19 shots tonight for a sorry .789 save percentage. He's going to need to do better to help the Outlaws win some games in the near future.

Meanwhile, Anchorages goalie Colt Beckett put on an absolute clinic for us on the ice tonight. Becket stopped 23 of 24 shots to earn his first win of the season in what was a monumental effort.

Code:
Colt Beckett (ANC), 23 saves from 24 shots - (0.958), W, 1-1-2, 60:00 minutes
Patrick Niederreiter (ANA), 15 saves from 19 shots - (0.789), L, 1-2-0, 60:00 minutes

2. Built Ford Tough Aggressor of the Game

Tonights Built Ford Tough Aggressor of the Game is Anaheims Dylan McIntyre. McIntyre showed us all tonight that you don't have to be the biggest body on the ice to be able to stand up for you team and lay it out for you squad. McIntyre received a game misconduct for fighting Spencer Maclean, but not before sending message and getting his boys ready to play it out until the final whistle. His effort tonight makes him our Build Ford Tough Aggressor of the Game.

3. Canadian Tire Unsung Hero of the Game

Although another broadcaster had stolen this award from our great sponsors at Canadian Tire, I will still provide you the real Unsung Hero of this game, presented by Titos Vodka. Accept no imitators! Titos, just Vodka, gets you drunk.

Tonight this award goes to Anchorages Tony Ford! Ford played a solid game and did the little things that contribute to a win but don't necessarily show up on the box score. Ford also notched an assist for his efforts, solidifying his position as the real Unsung Hero of the Game.

Anchorage Takes Over in the Second Period:

While Anchorage came into the second period all ready with a one goal lead against Anaheim. The Outlaws struck first tying the game at 1-1 with just over five minutes into the period, but after that things got dicey for the Outlaws. It started when Outlaw second pair defenseman Anthony Banthony got too close the goalie and got hit with a goalie interference penalty. Just six seconds into the power play the Armada stuck when third line winger Jonas Larsen took the offensive zone face off win and put it in the back of the net. With two minutes and two seconds left in the period rookie Center Jake Primeau takes loose puck and puts it top shelf to give the Armada a 3-1 lead going into the third period. Not only did Anchorage score two goals in the period
they did so while being out shot and down a man twice. Defensively they did quite well on the penalty kill to keep and extend their league. (169 words)

Bad Blood:

Just about three minutes after Armada's rookie winger Elijah Jones scored to put his team up 4-1, a fight broke out. According to other news outlets words were being thrown around the ice and both Armada's second line center Spencer MacLean and Outlaws third line center Dylon McIntyre had enough and interrupted the game to fight. McIntyre got the instigator penalty as he was the first one to drop the gloves. The fight ended in a draw after both players got a few shots in before they tied each other up and the refs got in the middle to break it up, and both players were ejected from the game. After playing a bigger role due to the ejection of Spencer MacLean, Andris Dzerins tried to start another fight as he got a Roughing penalty on Anthony Banthany, but this time cooler heads prevailed. Three Stars of the Night:

The first star if the night was Anchorage third line winger Jonas Larsen, who scored the game winning goal on the power play almost eight minutes into the second period. Larsen also assisted on the other three Armada goals. Larsen has an offensive force all night, and the Outlaws had no answer for him. The second star of the night was rookie third center Jake Primeau. Primeau scored Anchorage's third goal of the night and their first. He also added an assist in what was a night to remember for the young center. The third and final star of the night also from Anchorage is rookie winger Elijah Jones. Jones had an assist and also added two hits to his score sheet. Elijah Jones also had a plus minus of three. (133 words)

Comment 1: Three Stars of the Game

To no surprise, all three stars of tonight's game were from the Anchorage Armada. Starting with Elijah Jones who registered his fourth goal of the season off of two shots. As a rookie, he's only getting about 16 minutes of ice time, but has been shooting well and should be interesting to see where he goes from here. Second star is Jake Primeau with a three point night on two goals and one assist after getting the Armada going in the first period with his second goal of the season. The main star of the night was Jonas Larsen, with a hat trick of assists and one goal. Larsen scored on his only shot of the night. Despite being one of the lowest in ice team, Larsen led the Armada's third line to an offensive beat down.

Comment 2: Fight Night in Anchorage

One of tonight's major highlights is a not so common bout in the SMJHL. This time it's the battle of the Macs as Dylon McIntyre and Spencer MacLean square off. MacLean and McIntyre are fighting for positioning in front of the goaltender when Raphael D'Alcott lets a shot go that just goes wide of the net. Talking can be seen going on between McIntyre and MacLean when McIntyre gives him a slight shove and skates after the puck. The puck finally clears to the neutral zone while on the back of the play MacLean returns a light whack and McIntyre goes right in for him. Multiple sucker punches mostly absorbed by MacLean, before returning the favor with some punches and a uppercut, however the boys struggle to get a good grip on each other. A few more punches thrown back and forth with most of them missing and it comes to a draw as the refs step in. McIntyre would leave the game on a misconduct for instigating.

Comment 3: Goalie Breakdown

Both goaltenders came in to tonight with less than four games played on the season. Colt Beckett has had a couple solid performances in net for the Armada this season, however no win to show for it coming into tonight with a 0-1-2 record. And he sure did work for tonight's win, with a pair of highlight reel saves including a windmill save on Anthony Archer to keep the momentum going in the first period. Beckett stops 23 of 24 shots to finish with a spectacular .958 save average, despite having a long night on the PK. Patrick Neiderreiter comes into tonight's game looking a little shaky, looking for his second win of the season but can't get it done. Despite the rough performance, Niederreiter still continues to show a lot of potential for the future.

3 stars

1.Jonas Larsen, Jonas had 4 points tonight in a 4-1 W, he carried the offense tonight and was a big reason why the Armada was able to win this game and he carried the team on his back tonight.

2.Johnny Sins 2 assist game, with 5 hit, and was a +2. He played a hard nosed game and was a good soruce of offense for Anchorage tonight. He played hard game and honestly Anahiem hated to play against him tonight according to my sources. He was a sin to play against. hahahahah.

3. Lallo Selman, I know he was held pointless in this match-up but he showed a lot of effort for Anaiem, a 7 shot game was impressive and if he keeps this level of play up for a long period of time, he should be able to lead anahiem in goals scored and maybe even the league. He deserves notice for his play today.
