I was trying to get an idea of how the draft would be broken down for the upcoming draft and noticed that there is no official rule in the SHL Rulebook that laid out how the draft order was determined. We all know that there is a lottery for the teams that don't make the playoffs, but what about the other teams? Using the NHL as a guide, I crafted the following interpretation to help solidify how the SHL Draft should take place.

Code:
1.    Teams that did not qualify for the playoffs the previous season (picks 1-6)

     a.    In reverse order finish these teams will participate in the Draft Lottery

     b.    Draft Lottery odds are as follows:

              i.     #16 – 35% chance of winning the 1st overall pick

              ii.    #15 – 25% chance of winning the 1st overall pick

              iii.    #14 – 20% chance of winning the 1st overall pick

              iv.    #13 – 10% chance of winning the 1st overall pick

              v.    #12 – 5% chance of winning the 1st overall pick

              vi.    #11 – 5% chance of winning the 1st overall pick

2.    The teams that made the playoffs in the previous season, but did not win either their division in the regular season or play in the conference finals (picks 7-10 up to 12)

     a.    Reverse order finish based better regular season record

3.    The teams that won their divisions in the previous season, but did not play in the conference finals (potentially picks 11-12)

     a.    Reverse order finish based better regular season record

4.    The teams that lose in the Conference Finals (picks 13-14)

     a.    Reverse order finish based better regular season record

5.    The team that was the runner-up in the Challenge Cup Finals (pick 15)

6.    The team that won the Challenge Cup Finals (pick 16)

Example: The regular season standings for S48 looked like the following:

- Z - Tampa Bay Barracuda
- XY - New Orleans Specters
- X - West Kendall Platoon
- XY - Winnipeg Jets
- X - San Francisco Pride
- X - Hamilton Steelhawks
- X - Toronto North Stars
- X - Buffalo Stampede
- X - Edmonton Blizzard
- X - Calgary Dragons
- X - New England Wolfpack
- E - Texas Renegades
- E - Chicago Syndicate
- E - Minnesota Chiefs
- E - Los Angeles Panthers
- E - Manhattan Rage

Z - Presidents Cup
Y - Divisional Winner
X - Made Playoffs
E - Eliminated

The Playoff Bracket ended as follows (Winnipeg and Buffalo for the Challenge Cup is currently on going)

This would leave the S49 draft as follows, as of 7/24/19:

Los Angeles Panthers

I’m not positive but I believe I could build in a randomizes for 1-6, but people probably like current method for proof
