S49 SHL Draft Rumors
#1

x2 Draft Media

Hello and welcome to a special draft edition of Hockey Today I’m of course your host Eva Winters and today we’ll be covering some of the draft rumors ahead of Wednesday’s SHL entry draft. Just a reminder that there are still teams trading picks and will probably continue during the draft, and as always these are rumors and have not been confirmed by any SHL GM or Co-GM. That being said let’s dive into some rumors.

First, we are going to start with a fairly new rumor that has the Los Angeles Panthers faking out the entire league and taking Detroit Falcons LW Khabib Nurmagomedov first overall. The offensive Russian winger had a solid first season and is currently having a very good showing in the WJC tournament. The winger is a good blend of goal scoring and defense. While he could add more strength to his game once he has the puck, he is elusive enough to make plays. This is a change in what was considered the no doubter #1 pick Anthony Archer. While not rated as a top 10 player with some more time to develop Nurmagomedov could become one of the best goal scorers in the SHL.

Next we move onto some rumors about players that will be going in the top 8. We’ll start with the #1 Center in the draft Bo Kane, insiders are suggesting that Kane will be going either #2 to the San Francisco Pride or #3 to the Texas Renegades. Kane was the consensus #2 pick until San Francisco traded up. Now there seems to be a 50/50 spilt between Kane and #1 Defenseman Noah Brusky. If the Pride, choose to go with Kane Brusky is rumored to go 4th to the Chicago Syndicate. Either way both number 1 rated players look to be future leaders in the locker room and faces of their new franchises. Kane the talented Centerman doesn’t appear to have many flaws in his game, being a dominate all around Centerman. While Brusky is the definition of a lock down Defenseman, while he struggled early in the season on the offensive side his passing has much improved and is starting to show the promise of an all-around defenseman. The last rumor for this section involves another Defenseman this time it’s Prince Devitt from the Kelowna Knights. Sources have told us here at Hockey Today that a team picking inside the top 10 doesn’t believe that Prince will make outside of the top 8. Prince is tied for the 3rd overall defenseman in our rankings, could it mean there’s will be a run on Defenseman early, or has a specific team fallen in love the Defenseman? We will try to find out more about this rumor as the draft moves closer. Devitt is considered to be a defensive Defensman who can make smart passes, our top scout has compared the player to Dustin Byfuglien.

Next we move on to some players that the rumor mill is unsure if they are getting picked in the first round or the second. We start off with number 1 rated Goalie Knock Booth. Sources close to the SHL GMs have heard Booth is looking at being picked in the second round due to there being a lack of big time need for Goalies, while sources from around the league of Booth going in the top round. Booth who actually won the starting Goalie position for the Colorado Raptors this year is considered a top 10 talent. The next player Jakub Bruchevski, the Russian Center has been mocked to teams in the late first round to the middle second round. Sources close to the player believes the St. Louis Centerman will be going in the early second round. Bruchevski is rated as our #6 Center in the draft and while starting out as goal scoring Center, since joining St. Louis has become more well - rounded.

Three players we can confirm we know are getting picked at a certain team are Jagger Fouquette, Coner Tanner, and Hugh Jazz. Jagger Fouquette is a Left Winger from Detroit and since the player is related to the GM in Hamilton the Steelhawks own his rights and will be selected 26th overall. Coner Tanner rights are owned by Edmonton’s GM, Tanner is rated as our number 2 Center in the draft. Last is Winger Hugh Jazz, the winger had an impressive rookie season in fact he scored the most points by any rookie in the SMJHL this season.

That will do it for our Hockey Today rumor mill update, stay tuned to hear about all the latest rumors and breaking trades. Keep your eye out for our Mock Draft that should be out about an hour before the draft tomorrow. Also stick around for our draft analysis, reactions, and our thoughts about potential steals of the draft.
