OK fine, so whats gonna happen to Klozoff? The guy represents some value to quite a few teams, could be a middle pairing defenseman before hitting regression.

It’s literally it’s own thread that says you:

1) must denote your player as a waiver eligible player in your send down post (Calgary failed to do this)

2) must post that your player is officially on waivers in the waivers thread (Calgary failed to do this)

Because they didn’t do either of these things, the commissioners never processed a formal waiver wire for Klozoff and thus not a single GM outside of Calgary even realized he was waiver eligible until I dug through the send downs thread and put two and two together on Monday morning. And it took another 4 SMJHL sims until we got a verdict of nothing.

I'll just put what is in the SMJHL GM Send Down thread right here followed by the Waiver rule as posted in the SHL Rulebook

Quote:"Please post in this thread any players you are sending down to the SMJHL for Season 49, or calling up to your SHL team.

NOTE: There is now a 5-season eligibility for SMJHL players, this means if their SHL Draft year was prior to S46 then they are not able to play in the Juniors

Players designated (S46) must clear SHL waivers before reporting to their junior teams. Other SHL teams have 24 hours to claim a player off waivers.

*** NOTE ***

Skaters and goalies can be sent down even if they have played in the SHL previously, as long as they are under the 350 TPE cap and within the 5 season eligibility, and obviously are under contract.

SMJHL GMs are allowed to sign IFAs with 200-350 TPE after the Draft, so they should not have to bug you to sign players and send them down. "

G. Waivers
A player is exempt from waivers for three full seasons following being drafted to the SHL. After that, they will be eligible for waivers if sent down to the SMJHL.
  1. If sent down, there is a period of 24 hours during which another SHL team may claim them.
  2. If claimed by a team, there is a 12-hour period during which an SHL team with higher priority may claim the player.
    1. Waiver priority begins in reverse order of the previous season’s standings. If a team successfully claims a player off of waivers, they move to the bottom of the list.

Nowhere in here does it refer to a separate waiver thread that anyone has to be posted in. And as a SMJHL GM until this thread I never knew there was a Waiver thread. Since we don't have access to SHL GM office I can easily see where Flareon would see this and assume it means that they would be posted in the send down thread and claimed there.

I'm not here to say whether this call was the right one or not since I can't speak for if CAL should have known to use the other thread. But to say the call-up thread doesn't get anymore clear is wrong. There should really be a detailed process in the rule book that constitutes what it means to post a player to waivers. Maybe there is something in the SHL GM Office but most of the site can't see that to reference it.

I understand what you're saying, but in order to clear waivers you need to be put on waivers. It implies there is another step whether that takes place in the send-down thread or somewhere else.

It's not like Calgary posted player name (waivers) or made any kind of indication that it was an abnormal send-down im the thread. They just sent him down with no effort to follow the rule that was clearly posted at the start of the thread. Furthermore, Waivers was used this season and it was a pretty big topic of discussion in the GM chat when it was going down.

That's a big yikes, my recommendation to HO is that putting the requirement to post in a thread ONLY inside that very thread is an absolutely terrible idea lmao

That's why I didn't want say much one way or the other. Outside of SHL GMs and SHL HO, no one else can see those threads or chats to know. From my view I could see it implying a separate step or someone just claiming the player in the send down thread. I think some people forget not everyone has the same permissions and access to areas and chats that change what resources they have available. People are just quick to rush into a thread and get their 2 cents in on the outrage and sling mud.

But with the waiver thread being used this season I can see where people are coming from. I can also assume HO(Like most decisions) is probably discussing the matter and does not want to rush into the thread and post incorrect info.

Esa and his co-GM have been around for how long and HO is letting them use the, “I’m sorry Officer, I didn’t know I couldn’t do that” defense? This is pretty pathetic from both HO and Calgary here
