Here in S54, we've got our eyes on a few hot playoff races that look like they'll be coming down to the wire. For this WFT, pick one (or more) of the following races to be wrapped up over the next week or so and let us know who you think will win that race to grab the spot and why.

For meeting the 25+ word requirement, you will receive 1 TPE. 8-10 members who go above and beyond on this task will be selected as Participation+ members and will receive an additional bonus 1 TPE.

Deadline: Sunday, June 21st at 11:59 PM ET

This PT is for SHL players and senddowns only; it is not for SMJHL rookies.
I think the Barracuda will get a single point, simply because of statistics. The coin is being tossed enough to ensure that their chance of at least getting to OT is higher than it should be. TBB all day ez bet.
Buffalo will easily be #1 in the East at the end of the season. With the amount of 2k players and insanely talented forwards we have, there's no way Hamilton catches up to us. This isn't STHS anymore, Hamilton don't have tricks up their sleeves.
When it comes to the West the easy choice for me is the Panthers. Yes, I am one hundred percent biased in that I play for the team, but every year we continue to get better and we’ve truly become a dominant force in the SHL. Not only do I expect us to claim the number one spot but I also expect us to go all the way. PLAYOFFS BABY!!!
Manhattan will hold on to secure that last spot in the East. New England have the talent and have even acquired more talent for their last push but it seems the FHM gods frown upon them.

Wrong the team is bad and has literally no players capable to win them a game. Before the season I would have bet IRL money that they would go winless
i think the barracuda will NOT gain a point and will end up finishing with an 0-50-0 record. Yes, that's right. The Barracuda will go winless. They just suck very bad and I don't think they have the talent at their disposal to win a singular game, even against teams like Baltimore or Minnesota.

The Edmonton  Blizzard will look to secure the #1 seed in the West. Although the  Blizzard have been playing inconsistently they will finish the remaining season strong and show the early dominance that they displayed earlier in S54. That version of the  Blizzard will come back when it is clutch time.

Whilst the Panthers are a very good team, New Orleans will finish #1 in the West due to their multiple games in hand. Any team can catch fire, but New Orleans have essentially two first lines and the best goalie in the league. I'm definitely biased because I play for the Specters but the talent is definitely there and they did go on a pretty good streak last week so if they sustain that momentum they've got the best shot at the 1 seed.
I think the Blizzard take the #1 spot. Why? Easy, because they're the team that sign my checks!

No but seriously, I am contractually obligated to say they're gonna win or else I get fined.
This Season is chopped full of tight races. Many teams are jostling for either strong playoff position or just to make it into the playoffs itself.

Stampede Buffalo Stampede vs Hamilton Steelhawks Steelhawks
Race for #1 in the Eas
t
Starting out in the east with a two horse race for top of the league between the Buffalo Stampede and the Hamilton Steelhawks. The Stampede currently sits a top the league with 62 points (30W-6L-2OTL, across 38 games played) with the Hamilton Steelhawks with 56 points (27W-8L-2OTL, across 37 games played) looking to swoop in and take the Top seed. Even though the Steelhawks have an extra game left to make up two of the six points, it won't be enough to over take Buffalo. This is because Buffalo have a cakewalk of a schedule left. Buffalo having six games remaining against teams with some of the worst teams in the league but just having a breeze of a schedule isn't the only reason why Buffalo is going to be the top seed in the league. The Buffalo top duo of Monkey D. Luffy and Matt Kholin have been playing like they are men possessed.

Rage Manhattan Rage Vs New England Wolfpack  Wolfpack
Race for the final Easter Conference playoff spot
If the Playoffs were to end today Manhattan would have the final seed in the East. However there's still plenty of hockey left to play. The Wolfpack find themselves 5 points back with twelve games remaining. The New England team looks like a shell of it's former glory. It seems like former president trophy winner, New England never recovered from the Hamilton beat down from last year. The inability to win against Hamilton will continue to gate-keep New England; this time from the playoffs. Questions of concern on the side of the wolfpack are a result of the trade for Benjamin Blue. He's been mediocre at best this season and has had recent woes--giving up two goals on five shots against Tampa Bay is really embarrassing. In addition to the shaking net minding,  The wolfpack have a slightly more difficult schedule with more unfavorable match-ups playing Hamilton twice, New Orleans once, and Chicago twice. Where as the Rage have only three unfavorable match-ups-- playing Buffalo the final game of the season, two games against Chicago and a toss-up against New Orleans. If I were a betting man, I would say the Rage have built a comfortable enough lead over the Wolfpack to secure the 4th seed in the Eastern conference.

Barracuda Tampa Bay Barracudas Vs History Shl
Race to get a single point!
Wrapping up this eastern report is the Tampa Bay Barracudas and will they get a point by the end of the season?  I don't see Tampa Bay getting a point this season and I think that's the way they want it. People rarely remember someone who's just good at something. People always remember the best. Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Vince Lombardi, the  0-16 2008 Detroit lions. Well Ladies and Gents I think Tampa is aiming to be the best, the best at being bad. The only way Tampa Bay gets a point this season is if Leitner plays lights out in a game and forces an overtime. This is extremely unlikely as in 5 of the last 14 games Tampa Bay needs to play their back-up punching bag in Tobias Lindeman.

The Western Blender

Specters Blizzard Panthers What four teams will be in the Western Conference playoffs? Renegades Dragons pride

Starting out with the team that will be representing the West as the first seed overall will be the New Orleans Specters. There are multiple reasons for this, starting the season New Orleans played terribly all of the players looked clunky, and starting out New Orleans lost some games to some questionable teams. Dropping some close games to the Jets, Dragons, Chiefs and the Pride before everything started clicking with the highest skill group in the league. This is the team that is consistently pulling out wins against the top of the league Hamilton and Buffalo showing that they can hang with the best. They have come out unlucky in their losses, losing most games by 1 goal. The combination of currently leading the Western Conference in points (51)  being tied for the most games remaining(13), and having a relatively easy remaining schedule, there's no reason why the Specters won't continue to claim their rightful spot atop the western conference.

The team that will secure the Second Seed in the West is going to be the Los Angeles Panthers. The Panthers are just one point behind New Orleans with the same number of games remaining (13). Looking at their schedule the Panthers should win about two-thirds of their remaining games. Dropping games to Hamilton, New Orleans and losing one of the two games against New England. This is enough to secure their rightful spot as the second seed in the Western Conference.

The team that will be facing off against the Los Angeles Panthers as the three seed is none other than the Calgary Dragons. This is a hot take if there were ever a hot take. Calgary are currently five points(45 points) behind the Edmonton Blizzard (50 points) with three more games to play than Edmonton. Both teams have equally difficult schedules but the Firepower of the Calgary has been a top the league as of late. If they can find a way to limit the number of goals allowed while maintaining this firepower Calgary will squeak past Edmonton for the third seed.

The fourth seed will be Edmonton. Edmonton has the most difficult schedule going forward. Of their final ten games, Edmonton is only favored to win in three games (2 Texas games, 1 Baltimore game). Edmonton will be fine with this especially after a reverted trade to improve their goalies got vetoed by the league.

Western Conference play-offs:
  Specters (1) vs (4) Blizzard
  Panthers (2) vs (3) Dragons
Teams on the outside looking in: Renegades pride
Texas Renegades- The team mantra this season is "Better to be lucky than good". This team started on a terror massing 1/3 of their win seven games in their first nine (7-2) . Since then it's all been down hill. Bottom line, they don't have the skill to get over the hump this season and into the playoffs. Next season though, this is a team to look out for.

San Francisco Pride- If Calgary doesn't heat up in the end this is my pick to be the fourth seed. They have the weakest schedule of the 3-6th seeds playing Tampa Bay twice and the Jets once. However I think Calgary will come out and shock the world.
The Buffalo Stampede will be first in the east because they have very good players like Cassius Darrow (who now has over 2000 TPE). When you have very good players like Cassius Darrow (who now has over 2000 TPE), you win games. When you win games with good players like Cassius Darrow (who now has over 2000 TPE), you finish first.
I genuinely think the Tampa Bay Barracuda's will end up with 1 or 2 points. They will either fluke a win vs one of the other garbage teams or just randomly take a team to an OTL. Hope it happens.

Race for the #1 seed AND the last playoff spot, Western Conference:
Specters New Orleans Specters - 46 points, 16 games remaining Specters
Renegades Texas Renegades - 44 points, 14 games remaining Renegades

I have the Specters finishing as the winners in the race for the #1 seed in the western conference. After a slow start New Orleans has really picked it up over the last stretch of games, putting together impressive wins. Now the Specters find themselves at the top of the West at times despite playing less games than the other teams in the hunt for the top prize. When New Orleans catches up in games played to the other teams out west their conference best winning percentage will land them as the #1 seed in the playoffs.

I also have the Texas Renegades as securing the last playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Renegades seem to have built a solid squad this season, and a lot of that is thanks to their young goaltender operated by Jearim (congrats on the new GM job). Goodman has been able to steal some games for Texas, and going into a tough stretch of their season he has 4 FHM fire emojis under his name, which seems good. Right now they are tied with the Pride for the last spot, but have one less game played, so I think they will prevail in the end.
Certainly an interesting race out West. I think it will ultimately stack up with Edmonton pulling down the 1 seed, LA going second, NOLA going third, and Calgary coming in from behind to snatch up fourth, leaving the fifth-place Pride and sixth-place Renegades in the cold of the early offseason. Edmonton has the talent to hang on, as does LA, plus the Panthers have the management advantages. NOLA and Calgary have management going for them, and as good as San Fran and Texas are, I've seen this flick too many times to take either of them over the Dragons.
