Hello SHL,

It's with great pride that I get to reveal the branding of one of our two new expansion teams to you all. When choosing the location and name for our team, I felt it needed to check a few different boxes. Firstly, it needed to be a major, but under-served, sports market. The team name itself had to have a thematic connection to the city, and I wanted the name to be unique and striking while also projecting a powerful image.

When I first started piecing together some ideas for a potential expansion, this branding was one of my first concepts and is the one that stuck with me right from the start. I had a vision for it in my head, and was fortunate enough to have @DrunkenTeddy bring it to life for me visually. In addition, @Aephino agreed to create the following branding reveal video, which some of you may have seen on today's SHL livestream. If you missed it, please enjoy the official reveal of the team here:

It's my great pleasure to introduce you to...

THE SEATTLE ARGONAUTS

Why the Seattle Argonauts? It's a major market that has hosted the SHL in seasons past, but one that remained deserving of a team despite the existing void. The oceanic setting of Seattle in the Pacific northwest lends itself to a host of nautical-themed names, but in the end I settled on the legend of Jason and the Argonauts. For those unfamiliar, these were a group of Greek warriors and heroes that adventured together aboard their ship, the Argo (the same ship you see in the main logo). The nautical nature of their adventures tied in nicely with the city of Seattle, and the concept of a band of adventurers braving the unknown together was not just a fitting theme for a team in general, but especially so for an expansion franchise. The concept of a crew of warriors banding together to keep a ship pointed in the right direction is apt for a team of people brought together under unusual circumstances to be part of a team. The gold tones on the uniforms reflect the myth most famously associated with the Argonauts - the quest for the Golden Fleece. There will be plenty of rough seas for us as we look to build a franchise from the ground up, but we'll do so as a team - and I can't wait to welcome the inaugural members of the Seattle Argonauts when the time comes.

Creating the branding for a team like this is something I've never done and I'm so pleased with how it turned out, and I hope you are too! I'm happy to answer any questions people have about the branding as well. I'm incredibly excited to get going and start writing the story of our franchise.

Welcome to water gang!
I really like this
why does the boat need eyes? is the boat alive? oh god
I like the idea of bringing back Seattle in the SHL and in the context of the NHL expanding there it's a great double dip on the news/hype of the american northwest for hockey.

Not a fan of the name or logo. Chuck it to personal taste or something.

Good luck with the expansion Tig!
I think it should’ve been the Seattle penises cause they have penises there
Congrats Tig!

Love the logo, the eyes on the boat seal the deal for me.
I like the jerseys especially the dark blue ones.
