Howdy everyone,

One issue that we see commonly affecting people who are new to the SHL is that they feel handicapped by joining at inopportune times. Chances are you learn rather fast that creating shortly after the Trade Deadline is the best time to make a new player. This can leave many people who find the SHL in ways outside of our own recruitment efforts at a disadvantage that feels insurmountable. After receiving a suggestion from a user (Thanks RED!) based on what other simulation leagues do, we've decided to implement a system of catch-up TPE.

For Season 60 players & onward, people who create a player in the weeks after the SMJHL Trade Deadline will be able to claim 3 TPE per week they have missed since the most recent Trade Deadline.

**NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE CLAIM POST. ANY CLAIMS HERE WILL BE IGNORED.**

F.A.Q.

Quote:Firstly, why?
The general consensus we've noticed from people who join some time into the season is that they feel their player is permanently handicapped compared to the rest of their class. It's very possible for these players to work hard to catch up and overtake other members of their class, but that doesn't always happen and doesn't fully wipe out the disadvantage most people feel. Often we'll see people retire their players because they feel the disadvantage is insurmountable, and while they say they'll come back at the deadline, that doesn't always happen. By giving a small amount of catch-up TPE, we hope to mitigate this disadvantage to help keep people in the league.

Quote:So how does this work in general?
Wordy walkthrough: Say you created a new player three weeks after the SMJHL TDL has passed, because you’d never heard of the site before. You get to claim 9 TPE as a way to catch up to the rest of your class for the various opportunities you missed.
Formulaic: newly created players gain 3*X TPE where X is the number of weeks it's been since the most recent TDL.

Quote:Okay, but how do you actually claim this?
SMJHL HO will be putting up a thread at each TDL breaking down the weeks and giving the set amount of TPE people can claim. Users who have created at least one week after the SMJHL TDL reply with a link to their Player Page and its date of creation. Users then link to their reply in their update to link to as a claim for their update thread. We'll be evaluating how well this works after the first season of it, if we change this we'll make sure to make an announcement for it.
NOTE: The amount you get to claim is based on your player’s creation date, not the date you put the claim up. If you create one week after the TDL but don't post your claim till two weeks after the TDL, you still only get one week's worth of catch-up TPE.

Quote:Who does this apply to?
Any players created for the Season 60 class and all classes going forwards.

Quote:Will this be in the rulebook?
Yes, this will be added to the SMJHL Rulebook under Section 3. Player Rules as the new Subsection f. Catch-up TPE. Currently existing Subsections f. Recreate TPE and g. Retiring will each be moved down one section.

Quote:Do you think this diminishes the efforts of max-earners?
On average for a typical week a Rookie can earn anywhere from 8-14 TPE, between PT, AC, 3v3, primetime, and training. That's also not including things like the early bird PT, mock draft, off-season time waster, season predictions, playoff predictions, and other various opportunities that pop up like say the Bell #Let'sTalk campaign. This TPE will not be such an overwhelming amount so as to invalidate the efforts of people who have been here since the beginning, but will instead hopefully be enough to invalidate some of the disadvantageous positions of later creates. As always, if this ends up being too much or too little we can revise this.

That's not a question and this isn't even a progression task.
As someone who created two days before the J draft, I like this.
sounds like socialism to me
Should include the S59 class since we are currently dealing with those affects, but otherwise solid change

As someone who created during draft week, this looks like a very good move!
applied.
I think this rule has great intention! However, as someone that spent 1.5m for my 3 TPE a week can I have my money back! Lol
Cool with a k
created a season too early :(
Cool to see this implemented, thanks guys Smile

I think the number could actually be a bit higher but we can always adjust that later once the system has been implemented and we see how well it works in practice!

i think the key thing here is that you accumulated activity checks during those weeks, so you've really been paying 1.5m for 2 TPE a week more than new players
