Please pick ONE prompt to write about. Do not mix and match prompts. Identify the prompt you are using in your submission - Copying and pasting the prompt will deduct from your word count so if you do this make sure YOUR submission is 150+ words excluding the prompt.

PLAYER PROMPT - It's the first home game of the season, and you're getting beat badly. Down by 5, it's late in the third, and the coach wants someone to send a message that your team is not just going to lie down and lose this season. They want someone to fight!

Written Task: Is that player going to be you? Is your player a fighter? Have they ever fought before? Would they ever if they haven't yet? Why or why not? If you have fought, do you remember who it was with? Did you win? Who started it? What does your player think about that aspect of the game? If you're a goalie, tell me what it would take to get you out of your net and skating down the ice to get the other goalie! (150+ words)

Graphic Task: Show me your player during a scuffle! If they aren't the type to get into fights, show me them grabbing a player on the other team to watch from a safe distance.

HOCKEY PROMPT- I like asking these more broad hockey questions too, so if you don't want to talk about your player let's just talk about the game in general!

Written Task:  What are your thoughts on fighting in hockey? It's definitely a lot less common these days, do you think that's a good thing? Do you think it has a place in the game, or that it's overdue to disappear entirely? Maybe you wish it happened more often? In your opinion, what circumstances justify a hockey fight? Specific things? Any time you want for entertainment's sake? Tell me your thoughts! (150+ words)

Graphic Task: Create a grit-themed hockey card with some of your player's physical stats. Hits, fights won, shot blocks-- use an appropriate photo for this type of card!

You will receive 3 TPE for fulfilling all requirements.

All responses are due on Sunday, November 27th at 11:59 PST. NOTE: IF YOU SUBMIT/EDIT AFTER THE DEADLINE YOU WILL RECEIVE REDUCED/NO TPE.

This is going to sound awful, but while the game is in the state it currently is, I think fighting has to remain in hockey. Lets be honest the department of player safety and the punishments handed out have been dogshit for years, there is little to no consistency and that has allowed players who dont impact the game at all completely take someone out for weeks. In hall of famer Daniel Sedins own words when asked about star players being constantly harassed by illegal moves "I mean, I had back surgery, so that's what happens." Until DOPS gets their heads out of their asses I think it is up to the teams to make sure people know not to maim their stars and young players. I could be biased however as two of my favourite Canucks all time were Rick Rypien (rest in piece) and Kevin Bieksa, one of the greatest superman punchers the NHL has ever seen.
Fighting should remain a last resort in the sport in general and it is for the better of the sport that it is being largely phases out. It's dangerous, largely performative, and oftentimes does not create positive value other than machismo and testosterone flow. However, there are to put it simply days where a guy does something stupid, dangerous, irresponsible, or outright disrespectful and needs to get his ass beat. These times are generally rare but they do occur and hockey players have the latitude to be able to police these elements of the game which is something we can't really do off the ice. It's important that respect for the game and the team is maintained above all else, and sometimes players step out of line and the refs can't handle it themselves. In those cases, fighting is warranted and should remain present just to make things safe for all

Ben Jammin is by no means a fighter (my 5 fighting and 5 aggression will back me up on that). However, in this scenario where we're down by 5 goals and as the team captain I need to rally the rest of my Chicago syndicate teammates and light a fire under all of us to get back into the game. I could see us being down by 5 goals against the Winnipeg Aurora as they're the top team in the league and in our division so we will be facing them a lot this season. My fellow S62 draft classmate Mikko Rashford would be someone I would target and make drop the gloves against me. I would hack and slash him to make him fight me. After a lot of chirping and stick slashing we both decide to drop the gloves and throw a bunch of haymakers at each other. This was a bout for the ages as each person threw and took a bunch of shots at one another where eventually the refs had to jump in and stop the scrap. Both players both acknowledged that it was a fight for the ages and nodded at each other in the peantly box afterwards.

Hopefully this bout motivated our team to stage a comeback in the game!

I'm a big Chris Neil fan and even when I was young they've hyped the game up to another level, I never really get it but it just means something when a teammate is willing to stick up for you. I don't think it should go away at all because it's something unique that no other league has and it's to the point where we don't see many injuries. I think it happens enough right now and if the players weren't on skates I'm sure more would go longer, there's always a bad hit or a player getting out of line and moments like this help highlight the situation and get the benches back on board with the plan. At the end of the day it's a lot of entertainment with the sportsmanship shown nowadays, especially if the players are the ones willing to lose teeth Wink
Player Prompt:

Down on the scoreboard and looking to send a message, Roddy would be a natural to step up and chuck knucks to try and get the team fired up. Though his career fight record is not astounding, he has never been afraid to step up when the team needs a physical presence.

A big man off the ice, he seems.average or slighter on skates, in a league dominated by this new breed of behemoth power players. But Roddy is tenacious, and stronger than he looks. Whatever the team needs him to do, he'll get it done. He throws hits, he blocks shots; the physical aspect of the game doesn't faze him. He's ready to lay it on the line each and every night. Bring it on!

That being said, as one of the teams lead penalty killers, its probably best to let someone else take the fiver.
Fighting in hockey always has and will be important. I think its a identity, because most sports don'tt allow fighting (you would get suspended ) hockey only gives you a 5 min penalty (not i  Europe ) fighting isn't that bad either. It allows players with problems to fight and wrestle so they don't have to wrestle in hotel rooms! I would punch spack jarrow any day. When i was like -1 years old i watched my first hockey game and it was amazing i seen a line brawl and a goalie fight the two best things in hockey. So yeah hockey needs fight because i did the math and hockey would become the least popular sports in north amaerica if it didn'tt have fighting because hockey players would wrestle in hotels and even fight with there pants down yeah sounds scary right always bye see you next time
Player Prompt

Kev Kevens at one point thought he wanted to get in a fight or two, but every time the opportunity to fight arises he calms down and remembers the harmful physical consequences of a fight. Kevens hasn't fought before, but he vaguely remembers a time in the J league when he strongly considered fighting. More specifically, it was right after the game where Citadelles teammate Tres Sombreros fought Kraken player Jimmy Jimmy. Sombreros was extremely fired up after losing the fight and wanted revenge. In the next meeting between the two teams Kevens considered going after Jimmy to avenge Sombreros, but it's quite hard to be the one who steps up to the plate when you share the ice with Boris Petrov. Although it's unclear if Sombreros ever got his revenge, it's very clear that any motivation that Kevens ever had to become a fighter was quickly doused by having such a strong teammate like Petrov always stepping up to the plate instead.
Player prompt

What a question. Is my player going to fight? Oh, absolutely not! I'm not only much too old for all of this at this point, I also don't want become known as one of those goalies who fights other people - as popular as it might be in other leagues. I'm actually glad that in this league there don't seem to be any goalie fights at all. It is against the rules or are all the goalies simply reasonable enough not to start anything? How about instead of fights they would let us goalies come out of the net and score goals? I'm not a fighter and I don't think I ever would do this. That's why we have other players on the team that sometimes do it. I'm not 100% against it in general, but it's really nothing for me and it should be something used only in extreme situations and when necessary. You don't really need to have players get into fights every game.
First game of the season, down by 5 goals, not looking great. First game into my 24th? season, give or take one. Am I a fighter? Hell no. Am I young and nimble and good enough to score 5, or at least lead a team charge to rally back and tie or win the game? Also hell no. I am old as hell. I can continue to earn a spot on a tanking team and that is it. Will I fight? Hell yea. What is the worst that is going to happen? I get injured, throwing my back out along with the first punch and am unable to play the next game? Literally does not matter as the Hamilton Steelhawks of the Simulation Hockey league are trending to place last in their division. Me winning the fight, or causing the team to rally back and win the game would likely hurt the team more than help, so instead I will just show that regardless of your age, or skills, never give up, always persevere.
Hockey Prompt - European Take Edition

Fighting in hockey is an almost strictly North American thing, never really was part of the game in Europe (unless we count the UK, and we don't) and any and all assumed "benefits" other than entertainment of fighting fall flat when you take into account that the things that supposedly happen more without enforcers, don't actually happen more in European hockey where fighting isn't a thing. Just as dirty hits weren't magically less common in the NHL back when enforcers "kept their stars safe".

The whole narrative doesn't make any sense, never has made any sense. And never will make any sense. Most dirty hits don't happen because a player is actively trying to play dirty. They happen because that player is a goddamn idiot and hockey is a fast game, probably too fast for said player to consistently make decisions that aren't dangerously stupid. Him getting punched in the face repeatedly won't make him any smarter. If anything it will have the opposite effect.

Oh, Jay Cue fights alright. Just maybe not on the ice, where fights can put his own team under more pressure, by playing with less 1 guy on the ice.
What Cue does is this, he goes "back in the hood" style. He memorizes the other player face and number. Then he goes to him and pretty much just straight up tell him "i will be waiting for you on the parking lot, 1 versus 1, mano a mano, you and my, no gloves, no helmets, no protections of any kind. Are you up for it?". And at this point, while his opponent is flabbergasted by the proposal, that he definitely was not expecting, Cue just punches him in the mouth and throws him on the ground for some "ufc ground and pound" until the refs decide enough is enough and they remove him from the other guys bloody face.
In the end, surprise your opponent with some crazy idea and then punch in the face. Nobody can take that.
