With the draft looming near we decided to take a close look at a player that we believe to be not only be a sure fire first round pick, but most likely going to selected in the top 5.

As a general manager of an SHL team there are a lot of details that go into looking at a player that you could potentially be drafting. A general manager cannot simply just look at a players stats that season and determine that is the best player for their team. There are so many intangibles that go in to the process of drafting a prospect.

One of the prospects that they will be keeping a close eye on with just days to go before the draft will be Prince George Firebirds center men Alexander Andrezjeck. Andrezjeck is the type of player almost any team would love to acquire due to the fact that he brings an incredible amount to the table.

History: Alexander Andrezjeck was drafted 6th overall this past season by the Prince George Firebirds of the NWJHL. In his first season with the firebirds he was named assistant captain and was given the responsibility to center the top line and play in all situations.

Regular Season: The Firebirds started off the season struggling but with the help of their top line of Andrezjeck , Pivonka, and Turak they were able to get their team on track and make a strong push right before playoffs. Andrezjeck was able to have a great stat line this season as he provided a consistent level of production.

Goals: 23 , Assists: 24, Points: 47, +/-: -1, Hits: 58, Shots Blocked: 28

Playoffs: As the season came to a close the Firebirds found themselves in a best of 7 series with the Kelowna knights. A lot of predictions had the Firebirds coming out in what was figured a 6 game series. Unfortunately for both Andrezjeck and the Firebirds the series would end up favoring the Kelowna Knights in a game 7 win. Although the Firebirds were eliminated early Andrezjeck had the chance to show what he could do in the playoff setting and he didn’t disappoint.

Goals: 3 , Assists: 8, Points: 11, +/-: 4, Hits: 13, Shots Blocked: 3

What the scouts say: As for Andrezjeck as a player a lot of scouts would consider him a two way forward with a playmaking abilities. Andrezjeck wont blow by defenders with his speed or rip one timer after one timer on the power play but there is a very good chance he will be the one setting up that one timer. Andrezjeck’s ability to set up his teammates was one of the best in the league last season. Even though Andrezjeck is one of the best set up men in this draft one of the things that scouts rave about the most is his ability to do it all. Andrezjeck was able to be on the ice setting up guys like Turak and Pivonka on the power play and then next shift take a step back and play on the penalty kill for the Firebirds. When you have a player with offensive talent that can also play well in the defensive zone, you have a player you can build a team around.

Projection: The upcoming draft we see Andrezjeck getting drafted somewhere near the 5-7 overall pick. We believe Andrezjeck has a chance to play top 6 minutes this season but we believe that he will find him self centering the 3rd line or could find another year of seasoning in the NWJHL to be quite beneficial.

Conclusion: We believe that Alexander Andrezjeck has the potential to be a franchise player in the upcoming years for whichever team drafts him. With a couple more years of development Andrezjeck will find him self as a main piece of a teams top 6 and great career.
