OOC: I'm going to be doing a diary on my GM's career. A random number generator decided I will be starting with the Nashville Predators and I will run with them until I feel that I just don't want to anymore. We're starting at the beginning of the regular season with the latest roster (Dec. 6th update). I'll be playing games and posting updates for 3+ games per day probably. So yeah, that about sums it up, let's get started!

Sep. 27th, 2012

The Nashville Predators announced last week that they would be parting ways with GM David Poile due to the fact that Nashville was quite possibly staring down another rebuild. With the possible new era coming along, the Board of Directors claimed it was best to look for a new GM.

Earlier this morning, the Predators announced that they had hired Steven Smyl, the son of Stan Smyl, a decorated former Canucks player. Steven has no prior experience in the league as a GM so it will be interesting to see how things will go for him heading into his first season with the not-so-great Predators. Fans are apparently confused by the selection of the new GM but will support the club's choice.

In the press conference introducing Steven, he told reporters that it would be up to coach Barry Trotz to announce the captains heading into the season. Smyl is apparently working on lines, preparing to experiment during the preseason.

Oct. 10th, 2012
  • GM Steven Smyl, responding to concerns about his team's defensive core heading into the season, has signed highly pursued free agent, Cam Barker. As many as six teams were in the running for Barker but he accepted Smyl's offer $4.25 Mil for the next six seasons.

Barker has had a bumpy career with many teams but Smyl still thinks that there is some room for improvement with Barker still. Barker will be playing on the second pairing alongside Kevin Klein.

"This is the only move that we will be making heading into the season opener in Detroit. I know that Cam is going to be great in Nashville and I look forward to his debut Friday," Smyl said.

Rookie Ryan Ellis was sent down to AHL affiliate, Milwaukee for a season of development.

Oct. 12th, 2012
  • The Nashville Predators arrived in Detroit hoping to get their season off to a good start, but they could not overcome the extreme amount of penalties they took.

Mike Fisher scored Nashville's first goal of the season at the mid-way point of the first period but that was soon followed by a double minor penalty to Paul Gaustad, which was Nashville's downfall at the end of the game. The Red Wings were able to score two quick goals within nine seconds of each other to end up winning the game by a score of 2-1.

The coaching staff was not very impressed with the amount of penalties that Nashville took throughout the game, with Barry Trotz taking time to speak to the media after the game.

"Obviously tonight didn't go as we hoped. We took way too many penalties out there and we're going to have to work on that. The PK definitely needs work after converting two goals back-to-back like that and that's what we'll be working on at tomorrow morning's practice before we take of St. Louis," Trotz said.

Coach Trotz is expected to make some changes to the PK lines for tomorrow's game to see if there are changes to the result.

The Nashville Predators take on the 1-0-0 St. Louis Blues at home tomorrow night.

NASHVILLE CRUSHED IN HOME OPENER

Oct. 13th, 2012
  • The Nashville Predators are not off to the start that their coaching staff was expecting.

Saturday night in Nashville, the Predators were hosts to the St. Louis Blues, a team that Nashville was expected to beat, but as demonstrated in the NHL countless times, anything can happen, and the Blues made the Predators look terrible in their home opener.

A red-hot Jaroslav Halak and the Blues' defense put a stop to most scoring chances for the Predators, eventually leading to a 3-0 Blues win.

The Blues dominated majority of the game despite both teams having almost the same time of attack. The Blues managed to get 40 shots off on Pekka Rinne while holding the Predators to under 30 shots.

"We tried motivating the team for a good third period but it just didn't happen. Back-to-back games at the very start of the season probably threw a couple of players off, so two-day break to assess what happened and come back hopefully for the win Tuesday night," Nashville Coach Barry Trotz said.

The Predators face the Avalanche at home Tuesday.
