So I watch quite a few movies and play quite a few games. So I figured I'd do a page like Nando's where I'll review movies and games. I will also review TV shows and other things occasionally
So for movies it'll be on a scale of 1-5 Stars. For games it will be done IGN'esque. 1-10 for Gameplay, Audio, Story, Visual, Replayability
So here we go I'll start with one game and will update as I go. I have quite a few I plan on doing now.
The Walking Dead: The Game
The Walking Dead the TV show isn't one of my favorites, it's a good show but never managed to drag me in like some other shows. The game was not like that, it was GREAT. I picked this game up at Redbox for free since I had a free code lying around. I didn't anticipate liking it as much as I did and anticipated playing it for a couple hours and playing NHL or Borderlands like I do on most nights.
The first thing that intrigued me was the comic book style artwork. It was nice and original. It looked a lot like the comic books and was very well done. The visuals were good for what they were going for. However they weren't perfect, there was a lot of lag at times and problems with the game where it'd be behind the audio. At one point I actually had to restart the game because it was so bad and the gameplay was unplayable at that point and I missed a couple quick time events because the buttons weren't responding.
The game is set up into 5 chapters (It was released chapter by chapter as DLC) this game has all of them combined. The chapter based game is pretty neat, each chapter feels like a completely different story. You grow to love certain characters and hate others. The best part is your gameplay decides who lives and dies and how. (To an extent) You start as Lee, a murderer on his way to jail after being convicted, the cop car slides off the road and you're free after some struggle with the cuffs and such. You see some zombies, fuck em up and move on to the backyard of a house. You break into the house (Like a boss) and find that nobodies home. You find a walkie talkie and start talking to a young girl who lives there, she's hiding from the zombies in the tree house. After finding her you become her parent pretty much, promising to help her find her parents (So she doesn't become zombie food) so that's the premise, it's surviving with those 2. I like Lee, he was pretty cool and I played him like I feel I would react in those situations. Which was nice and I felt like each decision I made was actually going to impact the game which was new.
The controls were a tad annoying, the constant changing camera made certain spots ridiculously annoying. One spot I never would have realized that I had to do a series of about 10 things to get past, none of them making a whole lot of sense pertaining to the part you needed.
I did finish the game and it was my first Platinum trophy, I ended up keeping the game for about 4 days, I finished 2 chapters the first day, 1 the 2nd, 1 the 3rd and the final chapter the 4th day. The game was very solid when you look around the faults, and I really am looking forward to the 2nd season of it which is coming out later this year. It was a nice change of pace from the mindless games put out today. It was a more open Heavy Rain.
Gameplay- 8.5/10. The controls were simple but a tad clunky. The gameplay itself was great aside from the few times where the game seemed to lose sync, making the audio and video completely unlooped. Overall though, I had a great time, Game lasted about 10 hours (Around 2 hours a chapter) and I never really got bored of it
Audio- 8/10. Not overly important but it was good, nothing spectacular but it didn't have to be
Story- 10/10 No complaints at all. Loved the story
Visuals- 7.5/10 The games visuals were unique but at the same time had room for improvement. Some of the facial expressions didn't quite match up
Replayability 8/10 From the ending I got I feel as though the ending is somewhat predetermined (as in you end up in the same spot every time just in different ways) and that makes it replayable to an extent. But not something I'm dying to do.
OVERALL- 8.4-- Great!
Up next I'll probably do a few movies that I've watched recently
Would someone like to pin this for me pwease? I'ma update it regularly
