As a young child, Mike was raised in a harsh environment. His father, Vincent, was an esteemed member of a Russian gang poplation after immigrating from Canada. His mother, Tatyanna, was a young heir to a Russian oils empire who fled her country if birth for a new life in the United States. After becoming pregnant, Vincent became the proud parents of Mike Ochocinco. Mike, who was always the comedian in school and among his friends, was known to have a side of him little known to his family and friends. Mike became involved in the gang life at age 14, collecting his first payment for his father's gang. Little known to his mother, Mike had become what she had swore to never let him be.

After several years, at age 16, Mike had become a trusted member of the corporation, but it was clear he had further aspirations in life. He had come to love the sport of hockey, and, knowing it was killing his mother inside, decided to leave the gang life behind him. After announcing his decision to the group of criminals, he decided to go to the bar with some friends. Upon his return home, he had realized the door to his house had been broken into. Once he entered, clear signs of a struggle were clear. In his living room, his mother had been shot 3 times in the chest and stomach. His father, two shots in his chest, was just on the verge of survival, called over his son, and in his last words, told to him of his pride in his son, and told him to go back to Canada, where he would be safe.

With a small fortune to his name, Mike Ochocinco left his past behind him. He arrived in Calgary, Alberta shortly after his 17th birthday. After staying at a downtown hotel for several weeks, he decided to enroll himself in a hockey program. After just a few practices, it was clear Mike had a strong knack for the game, and a fitting mean streak to go with it, fueled by his anger and lust for vengeance inside. Mike immediately became a highlight reel of fights and bodychecks, waiting to be drafted into a junior league.

Just a short season later, Mike was contacted by then general manager of the Seattle Stingrays Dougie Brind'amour, who took a liking to his heart and fiery play. Drafted late in the draft, unknown to many general managers, Mike was selected to the Rays. Immediately after his drafting, Ochocinco was named captain of the team. After the first several games, it was clear Mike had made friends in Dougie Brind'amour and Rob Hantuchova. The seasob started out very poorly for the Rays, and Mike Ochocinco was struggling. Fighting almost every game, his emotions got the better of him, poorly affecting his team and teammates. The team picked it up during the second half, and Mike had earned himself a reputation as a fighter, a pest, but also a top notch defensive defenseman. After Quihle Agante took over managing duties in Seattle, and Mike played all star quality hockey, it was very clear that their paths were to cross again...
