Some writer came out with a list of the most overpaid NCAA coaches today and it gave me the idea to do this. I'm sure some will get offended, but idgaf. This list is based off of pay and production from ONLY last season. Past accomplishments were disregarded. I also did my best to keep it as unbiased as possible. I also tried not to include inactives (Kladno only one), because that's boring. If you are on this list it does not mean your player is not good.

Top 10 Overpaid Players

10. Blizzard Yousuf Scherbluk - $6,000,000
- Yousuf Scherbluk is one of the all-time greats of the SHL. Nobody could argue his past accomplishments, as he is a sure fire first ballot Hall of Famer. Unfortunately for Scherbluk and the Blizzard, he did not have one of the stronger seasons of his career. Although his numbers are not horrendous, his salary outweighed his production. Yousuf finished the season with 13 goals, 21 assists, and 94 hits. He was a plus player and did a good job of staying out of the box, but he also played a whopping 23.01 minutes per game. I'm sure the Blizzard expected more production out of him with those minutes and I'm sure he did as well. Some might say age is taking it's toll on Scherbluk, but I expect him to bounce back next season with a vengeance.

9. Panthers Nicholas Pedersen - $6,000,000
- Nicholas Pedersen is one of the young, up and coming players of the SHL. He has a bright future in this league and the Panthers expect him to improve on his play in the future. Pedersen had a very solid season with 35 points and 110 hits. However, he only scored 9 goals and played most of the season on the top line with superstar Brian Morley. Some analytics suggest that many of his 26 assists were due to Morley's prolific scoring season. I must also mention that Pedersen finished the season with 0 power play goals and only 2 power play assists. Although the entire 2nd power play unit struggled, you might expect a 6 million dollar player to raise the level of his line mates. Pedersen should improve and be well worth the money in the coming seasons.

8. Dragons Gil Lemar - $5,000,000
- Gil Lemar is another young star of the SHL. The Dragons drafted him in the 2nd round of the S20 SHL Draft and they believe his future is incredibly bright. It seems as though they paid for potential rather than production. Lemar did finish the season with 17 goals, which was tied for 2nd on the Dragons, but he only recorded 12 assists to go along with it. He did not hit much as he finished with only 47 hits and very rarely blocked a shot. He only played an average of 16.95 minutes per game, but the Dragons would surely like to see more production out of him. Time will tell if Lemar can improve his play and validate his current contract, but as of now he has not.

7. Blizzard Matthew Buchesner - $4,250,000
- Buchesner is the prototypical defensive defenseman. A dying breed in the SHL, so it seems. Buchesner is one of the veteran leaders for the Blizzard. He punishes opposing forwards and will always stick his nose in the dirty areas of the ice. He finished S22 with 119 hits and 66 shot blocks in 21 minutes of ice time per game. He had very solid defensive numbers, but as a 4+ million dollar player, you expect a little more in the offensive end of the ice. Buchesner scored a measly 1 goal all of last season and had just 10 assists. He is not a top 4 defenseman for the Edmonton Blizzard, so some might say it's unfair to put him on the list. If you don't want to blame him for his play, then you can blame Edmonton management for paying him as much as they did.

6. Steelhawks Sam Samsinov - $4,500,000
- Sam Samsinov was the 8th overall draft pick in the S20 SHL Draft. Arguably the greatest draft the league has ever seen, Samsinov has arguably been the biggest bust of the draft. He's the only player drafted in the 1st round that has yet to distinguish himself as a reliable player in the league. He brings very little physicality finishing S22 with only 35 hits. He did show some tenacity while blocking shots while playing as a defenseman for West Kendall, but it could not outweigh his offensive performance. With the Platoon he only scored 5 goals combined with 10 assists. He was later traded to Hamilton and moved back to his natural forward position. In Hamilton, Samsinov nearly hit the offensive numbers that he produced with the Platoon, in just half of the games played. In Hamilton his minutes also improved greatly and he finished the season playing an average of 22.18 minutes per game. News has broken that Samsinov plans to retire after S23, which has to leave you scratching your head. Wolfpack management has been taking some heat from the Boston media over their lack of playoff success and the drafting of Samsinov has been part of that criticism.

5. Renegades Liam Kinsler - $5,000,000
- Liam Kinsler was a 1st round pick in the S19 SHL Draft. Many believe he is due for a breakout season, but that season has not occurred to this point. Kinsler finished S22 with 10 goals and 10 assists, decent numbers for a 3rd line player, but not for a 5 million dollar player. He brings a somewhat physical game to the rink, but many would say his biggest attribute is simply his ability to win. S22 was the first time in Kinsler's career that his team did not win the Championship, going back to his junior days. Are the Renegades paying him this money because he has been on winning teams? It's head scratching to say the least. Some hockey analysts have compared him to Mike Richards and we all know how that has played out for the LA Kings of the NHL. I'm still holding out for Kinsler's breakout season, but if it does not come soon, Texas management will have some explaining to do.

4. Dragons Belial - $6,500,000
- Belial is a veteran player in the SHL and has been on some winning teams throughout his career. Although he has won some games, very few would look to Belial for some veteran leadership in the room or on the ice. Belial has always tended to shy away from physical contact, finishing S22 with a whopping 8 hits and 3 shot blocks. He scored 16 goals and recorded 14 assists, which are pretty good offensive numbers considering his limited playing time. The problem is the Dragons cannot rely on Belial to be committed to the defensive end of the game, so they cannot give him larger minutes. Don't expect Belial to change his game at this point in his career, so this contract will likely be his last high paying deal.

3. Stars Tom Sawyer - $6,000,000
- S22 was an extremely disappointing season for the Toronto North Stars. nobody played up to their capabilities and it ended with them being massive sellers at the trade deadline. Tom Sawyer is viewed as one of the leading catalysts for the Stars and a building block for their present and future. Sawyer logged huge minutes, averaging 25.54 minutes per game. However, not much production came in those vast minutes. Sawyer had 15 goals and 15 assists, averaging less than half a point per 20 minutes played. He also only had 51 hits and 8 shot blocks. If the Stars have any hopes of getting back to their competitive days and ending the 22 season long curse, Sawyer is going to have to have a bounce back season.

2. Stars Mikhail Kladno - $5,000,000
- Mikhail Kladno was traded from the Blizzard to the North Stars as part of the Dave Smith trade at the deadline, but he also had a miserable season. 3 goals. Kladno got paid 5 million dollars last year to score 3 goals. That is roughly 1.67 million dollars per goal. That just simply is not going to get it done. He brought some physicality, but recording 3 goals and 13 assists in 20 minutes per game of ice time is just simply atrocious. Although some stars fans may like to see Kladno hang up the skates, don't expect to see it anytime soon. He is making too much money for too long of a time period to pass that down. You're only hope as a Star's fan is for some sort of miracle that rejuvenates Kladno's career.

1. Renegades Mikhail Krivokrasov - $5,000,000
- Mikhail Krivokrasov has been a very good player throughout his SHL career. He won back-to-back Challenge Cups with the Edmonton Blizzard and then back-to-back Cups with the Texas Renegades. He has been on the first line in Texas for quite some time now with Jordan Hall and Shawn Velevra, but for some reason his career seems to have taken a turn for the worse. Krivokrasov started S22 at an abysmal rate and was demoted to the 3rd line. He finished S22 with 3 goals, 11 assists, 29 hits and only 4 shot blocks. Texas Management has had no answers for this incredible decline in production and Krivokrasov seems baffled himself. Was it just a down season or is this the end of Mikhail Krivokrasov? Only time will tell, but without a doubt he was the most overpaid player in S22.

Honorable Mentions:
Nick Carlzner - $3,000,000
Danny Sexbang - $3,000,000

it actually took me along longer than i thought it would lol
it was tough to narrow the list down and rank them, because a lot of the high paid players are still good players.
