First of all, welcome to the SHL!

This Point Task is for new members only (first generation players) that have joined the league. As the league continues to grow and find ways to expand and grow the league. We are looking for your feedback to help as we continue to move forward with the league.

We have prepared a small quick survey that will help us evaluate the site and help us continue to grow the league moving forward. We hope you answer the questions as honestly as possible as I have mentioned will be greatly appreciated. For completing this survey all new members (sorry recreates this isn't for you) to the league will get 2 uncapped TPE to help you grow with your first player. All you have to do is answer the 6 questions below in a new post and as you learned from "My First Point Task" click your survey post results link and attach it to your player update page.

1) How did you find us?

Reddit. Saw a thread in /r/sabres, then I saw the big thread in /r/hockey. Seemed pretty fun!

2) Is the the site easy to navigate as a newcomer?

I think it's easy enough. It's definitely confusing at first, but one you've clicked around for a little while you get the hang of it pretty quickly.

3) Did you have any trouble creating your player?

No, it was pretty simple watching the video. TPE points were a little more difficult but the video told you what to do step by step.

4) Did you use the video/written tutorial when creating your player? If yes, did it help?

Sure did. Really helpful!

5) What would you like to do while waiting for the SMJHL Draft?(Example: Prospect Tournament)

Definitely a prospect tournament. I think having 2 prospect tourny's would get more newcomers hooked on the site. Let them build up more excitement about the draft and have more to do while they wait.

6) Give us one suggestion to make this site easier on new members.

My one suggestion would be to hold the SMJHL draft before the SHL draft. I know that would be something completely new that you're not used to, but consider this:

The players being drafted to the SHL are already active members. They have already played their season with the SMJHL and know how this all works, they're already hooked on the site and don't need convincing to stay.

If you want as many new recruits as possible to become active members, wouldn't it be better to have them drafted first? It just seems to me like although really exciting, the SHL draft could wait a little longer. The sooner you do the SMJHL draft the more active members you'll gain, whereas some of them may leave if they're waiting too long.

Edit: spelling error
1) How did you find us?
Leonidas invited me. (pls give him tons of points)

2) Is the the site easy to navigate as a newcomer?
It's a lot of getting used to and I use a PM I sent myself to find links quickly but I don't think I'll need it for long.

3) Did you have any trouble creating your player?
No, creating was quite easy.

4) Did you use the video/written tutorial when creating your player? If yes, did it help?
Yes I used the written one and it did help.

5) What would you like to do while waiting for the SMJHL Draft?(Example: Prospect Tournament)
I think the tournament would be a good idea. Anything to get us interacting with one another. I read we'll get to talk with junior GMs or something soon, which does sound like a lot of fun.

6) Give us one suggestion to make this site easier on new members.
I guess the rookie quick links could be better organized but when you start searching for something seriously you can usually find it.
And I'm with the guy above. It'd be fun to make us wait a little less before being part of a team.
1) How did you find us? Reddit. /u/Fernand126

2) Is the the site easy to navigate as a newcomer? 50-50

3) Did you have any trouble creating your player? It was a bit confusing at first (I made it at midnight) but I was able to get him done.

4) Did you use the video/written tutorial when creating your player? If yes, did it help?
I didn't (people were sleeping), but I used the written one. It did indeed help.

5) What would you like to do while waiting for the SMJHL Draft?(Example: Prospect Tournament)
A tournament would be a great idea, or there could be a mock draft where I'm told where I could be picked.

6) Give us one suggestion to make this site easier on new members.
Add sort of an interface like you would see in EA's games.

Also, not really new members, but let random members make jerseys for teams sometimes? It'd be nice to see what I actually look like.
1) How did you find us?
thread on reddit. in /sabres

2) Is the the site easy to navigate as a newcomer?
yes, but there are so many options and stuff, im unsure whats next!

3) Did you have any trouble creating your player?
no, very easy.

4) Did you use the video/written tutorial when creating your player? If yes, did it help?
yes, partly. then my ADD kicked in and i went in blind. but what i did see, yes

5) What would you like to do while waiting for the SMJHL Draft?(Example: Prospect Tournament)
prospect tournament, maybe even practices so players can develop slightly

6) Give us one suggestion to make this site easier on new members.

1) How did you find us?
through a friend (Zim).

Once I knew where I needed to go navigation was good.
3) Did you have any trouble creating your player?
Nope, tutorial video was good.
4) Did you use the video/written tutorial when creating your player? If yes, did it help?
Yes, immensely.
5) What would you like to do while waiting for the SMJHL Draft?(Example: Prospect Tournament)
Tournament sounds cool. Opportunities to see how the simulation works.
6) Give us one suggestion to make this site easier on new members.
More graphics, less text perhaps. I don't mind reading, but I imagine it may have deterred a few people.
1) How did you find us?
Ferdy's post on /r/hockey

2) Is the site easy to navigate as a newcomer?
It was really easy for me but maybe a bit confusing for someone who hasn't used forums before.

3) Did you have any trouble creating your player?
None at all; the FAQ and the tutorial were great.

4) Did you use the video/written tutorial when creating your player? If yes, did it help?
Looks like I'm a premature answer giver. As 3 said, yes and very helpful

5) What would you like to do while waiting for the SMJHL Draft?(Example: Prospect Tournament)
Prospect Tournament for sure, but also maybe adding a prospect graphic event with extra pay for our first graphic.

6) Give us one suggestion to make this site easier on new members.
If some sort of instant message system could be set up for new comers, they could ask a question and usually a link to the answer would be easy for experienced members to find quickly. Honestly it's already pretty simple to use though.
hope I'm allowed to do this. It's my first season and I'm not a recreate
EDIT - apparently Im not
1) How did you find us?
Saw a thread on r/hockey sometime last year and popped onto this site to check it out. At first i was discouraged by what seemed like alot of work and 'grinding' to get your player how you want, and i had little time to commit due to work and school. But the newest thread on r/hockey got me interested to actually try it out. So here I am Smile

2) Is the the site easy to navigate as a newcomer?
Its a little confusing at first, but like with everything, you learn your ways around and you know where to go.

3) Did you have any trouble creating your player?
No troubles at all. The guideline and text on that thread was well written and easy to follow

4) Did you use the video/written tutorial when creating your player? If yes, did it help?
I didnt use the video tutorial, but the written one helped me out greatly.

5) What would you like to do while waiting for the SMJHL Draft?(Example: Prospect
Tournament)

Of course the Prospect Tournament is going to be the biggest thing we all will want to do while waiting for the draft. Another thing would for senior members of SHL to do a sort of "AMA" to help us newer guys learn from them and learn how to become a good member of this community.

6) Give us one suggestion to make this site easier on new members.
Ive seen on a couple of forums and sites that near the bottom have a 'live chat box' where members can talk to each other without having to post in threads. If this was created, it would create less clutter for people trying to figure out what to do and where to put threads. Also could create some great conversations as its all in real time.
1) How did you find us?
Had tons of people on SBA bug me to come over here, finally had the time to eventually try this out.
2) Is the the site easy to navigate as a newcomer?
If you're used to these kind of leagues, I guess so. Otherwise I suppose newer ones may encounter some problems because the complexity of the forum structure can tend to be a bit overwhelming.
3) Did you have any trouble creating your player?
The most challenged part was back checking in my head how many points I had left to allocate on the build.
4) Did you use the video/written tutorial when creating your player? If yes, did it help?
No, didn't use it.
5) What would you like to do while waiting for the SMJHL Draft?(Example: Prospect Tournament)
Receive an inspiration for my first media article.
6) Give us one suggestion to make this site easier on new members.
You're firing on all cylinders to keep signups active. I like ILikeEich's suggestion though of having the SMJHL draft earlier than the big league draft.
1) How did you find us?
Schultzy on HFBoards

2) Is the the site easy to navigate as a newcomer?
No, it took me weeks and it is still annoying today.

3) Did you have any trouble creating your player?
No, the google drive calculator made it easy

4) Did you use the video/written tutorial when creating your player? If yes, did it help?
Yes, but the updaters didn't like the update format it needs to be updated

5) What would you like to do while waiting for the SMJHL Draft?(Example: Prospect Tournament)
That would really get people into it, yes do it.

For how much stuff is packed in here, it's really not that hard to follow. All the posts that have the useful links are nice too, plus I've gotten a few PMs from people who know what they're doing, which was really nice.

3) Did you have any trouble creating your player?

No. Creating the best athlete since Pheidippides wasn't that tough (NOTE: if it turns out I'm not the best athlete your game is broken and I hate you)

4) Did you use the video/written tutorial when creating your player? If yes, did it help?

Played the video while I messed around with the stats and looked at other people's suggestions.

5) What would you like to do while waiting for the SMJHL Draft?(Example: Prospect Tournament)

Well I'll tell you I'm going to have to learn what the hell a Twitter is, that's for sure.

6) Give us one suggestion to make this site easier on new members.

Not 100% on how everything works yet, so I don't really have any suggestions to add. But I will say that everyone seems extremely friendly, which almost makes me feel bad to have to destroy all your hopes and dreams with Swedish Fury ™ but such is life.

4) Did you use the video/written tutorial when creating your player? If yes, did it help?
Yes it helped. Used a written tutorial

5) What would you like to do while waiting for the SMJHL Draft?(Example: Prospect Tournament)
Tourney would be good.

Be able to delete a mistake when posting a new topic. I accidentally created a new topic when I need to make a reply and couldn't figure out how to delete it.
1) How did you find us?

Through the Sabres subreddit!

2) Is the the site easy to navigate as a newcomer?

Somewhat. There's a lot of available links, but I wish updating your player was in one central location. Like, a player page where everything happens for an entire season, so I can just keep updating/replying to one single page, instead of linking to 3 different places and withdrawing from the bank. (Although I get the reason for an update subforum so it's easier to track for mods)

3) Did you have any trouble creating your player?

No. I think I messed up my initial points, but it was easy enough to fix it.

4) Did you use the video/written tutorial when creating your player? If yes, did it help?

I used the written tutorial.

5) What would you like to do while waiting for the SMJHL Draft?(Example: Prospect Tournament)

Prospect tourney, media scrums, get-to-know-you days. I wanna sell myself and go near the top, damnit!

Full character creation and updating in one single location.
