With the 15th overall pick, the New England Wolfpack is proud to select, from the Montreal Impact, Chris Welch!

Wow, just, wow. I couldn't believe it at the draft and I still can't believe it. Not only being able to join the team I wanted to be drafted by most, but also being drafted by the team that also nabbed up big name players like Jasper Clayton that went second overall, Lord Pretty Flacko that went fifth overall, Zack Hoover that went twelfth overall, and a whole bunch of more insane players that the team managed to steal one after the other. And going fifteenth overall at the top of the second round in such a deep draft is an extreme honor, and I'm very thankful to the Wolfpack organization and I'll show my worth and loyalty every step of the way.

I'm so excited to commit and give it my all for New England, and I can't wait to get started anyway possible, so this is how I'll start!

(Clayton, Flacko, Hoover, Durden, Morenov, Hendrickson, Reacher, Wood)
Man just seeing this question gives me a giant smile on my face, all these guys are going to be big pieces of the Wolfpack and I'm so excited to play with each and every one of them.

Clayton - Don't know him too well yet, but I'm excited to talk to him more. But what I can say about him is that he is an amazing player and I'll be glad to have him on the back end. He was a monster in the Montreal vs. Detroit playoffs series so I seen first hand how well he can play, so it's definitely going to be good to have him on my team rather than against me. He's also very active inside the locker room and outside of it, rather it's with or without the Wolfpack which is awesome.

Flacko - MY MAN. In the draft I wasn't sure where I was going, but I was so so hoping to come to the Wolfpack after I seen Flacko drafted here. Teammates on the Impact, it's going to be fun playing alongside him more, but I'm more hoping to be on the same line as him. As many people know, he has a laser of a shot and to know that I might be able to help him out with in the future on the Wolfpack is just insane. I feel like in the future, he'll be on top of the draft class once he finds his scoring game which will be easy for him. I can see him being a great leader for us as well, maybe even the future captain one day due to him being very active and putting in 110% as well as being a great guy in general who also always says what he wants to say.

Hoover - Hoovs! He was one of the players I was hoping to be drafted with, even though I know it would be a long shot unless a team picked up another pick in the draft close to where I'd be drafted, and look how it went down! We are pretty similar players with both of us being playmaking wingers, so I'm hoping we can be put on the same line and see if we can setup someone down the middle all game long! He is a great locker room presence as well and he definitely lights up the room every time he posts, so it's awesome having him on and off the ice.

Durden - I don't know Durden too much of all, we haven't spoken too much to each other but from what I've seen of him, he's a hilarious dude and another great locker room presence. To have a great guy in the locker room, and also a great guy down the middle is great for the team. Although he is a pain in my ass for coming up big in the playoff series in Montreal vs. Vancouver and winning the Four Star Cup, he is a tremendous talent and probably one of the biggest steals of the draft.

Morenov - Holy shit I'm so excited to have him on the team. Being teammates already on the Impact, he is such a friendly and cool guy that even helped me write my giant 7k word post-draft presser last season for Montreal and didn't want anything back besides helping others in the future. Someone like that who is also a beast on the blue line is exactly the kind of guy I would of wanted being drafted with me, so after I was drafted and the Wolfpack were talking about players still available they wanted to take, the first name I threw out was his, and eventually he was drafted here! The other steal in the draft who will be a force to be reckoned with soon enough once he gets called up to the SHL.

Hendrickson - Rho Rho Rho your boat! So happy to be reunited with my old Stingray pal! We haven't talked in awhile and when I seen he was drafted I was nothing but smiles. A great friendly guy that will be great for us in the future and will be a core player for sure. After being drafted he's been pretty active and I'm happy to have him on the Wolfpack with me.

Reacher - Rami! Hilarious dude that the Impact picked up from FA last season, and he's been great to have in the locker room. Although he hasn't played much and I haven't seen him on the ice as much as others, his locker room presence and his awesome stories makes him alright in my books. Can't wait to talk to him more now that he's on the Wolfpack too!

Wood - He is one of the players I really don't know much of all about. I'm glad he's on the team and I hope to get to know him sometime soon though!

Julie-Anne Marshall - Can't forget Julie! Although he's another person I don't know well at all. He's been pretty funny in the locker room and seems like a fantastic guy. Definitely another player I want to get to know.

Honestly I can't tell you. I'd like to think of myself as a team player and I told my new GM's that I'd do whatever they'd like, whether it's staying down on my junior team in Montreal or being called up and being slotted anywhere they need me in the lineup, whether it's a good amount of minutes or even down on the fourth line if need be. We'll have to see come pre-season, because if the Wolfpack can't get any Free Agency hits and still needs a body I'll be the first one to volunteer.

Quote:Originally posted by Hoovuh
Interview Drafted at 15th overall and the 1st pick in the 2nd round, do you think you have certain expectations to live up to?
I don't think I'm as well known as others in my draft, or in the league in total, but even then I'd like to prove to everyone that I'm not just another name and a draft bust. I'm going to work the hardest I can be to be the best player on and off the ice. I'm completely loyal to New England for taking the chance on me, and I'll do whatever it takes to prove it. I love it here, and I plan on being here for a long time.

Quote:Originally posted by Hoovuh
Interview Out of all the players drafted tonight by New England, who are you most excited to be able to play with?
Definitely Flacko. Being teammates down in Montreal, I got to know him a decent amount, but being drafted to the same SHL I think will bring us closer, and him being a sniper and me being a playmaker will help us meld quickly on the ice as well. I hope soon enough that we'll play on the same line, so I can set him up for his first SHL goal.

Quote:Originally posted by Hoovuh
Interview Did you have any prior indication that the Wolfpack would select you in this draft?
The Wolfpack was the first team to make contact with me in any sense of the word. Knowing Storm on the Impact, we got to know each other and get along pretty well as the days would go by in the season. Nearing the start of the playoffs was the first time he said he had some interest in taking me in the draft, hopefully with one of his second round picks. I was excited because I was talking and getting to know the Pack guys, and I would of loved to end up here. I didn't know if they would be able to nab me up though as a few other teams shown some interest in me as well, but I'm glad they took the chance on me and I'm loving every minute of being apart of the Wolfpack so far.

Quote:Originally posted by GreatOneHimself
Interview Favorite SMJHL Draftee?
Jordan Mack. Succeeding his older brother who retired a lot earlier than I thought he would, I feel like he'll be a great draft pick for any SMJHL team that takes him. Hope to see him someday in the SHL.

Quote:Originally posted by GreatOneHimself
Interview Favorite kind of unicorn?
A shiny one.

Quote:Originally posted by GreatOneHimself
Interview Are you confident the Wolfpack have a great prospect pool?
Easily confident. It's hard to be unbiased, but I feel like the Wolfpack had the best draft out of all the SHL teams this year picking up stud after stud, solidifying the core and future of the team. Other people agree that the Pack had a great draft as well, so that goes to show you that we are aiming for the cup again, and very soon. Time will tell if each draftee will pan out, but I definitely foresee many of them panning out to be stars in the league.

Quote:Originally posted by TheNextGreatOne
Interview Do you think New England drafted you too high at 15th overall, just right, or got a steal?
It's hard to judge that seeing all the talented players in the draft.

I'd say too high, but at the same time I feel like I'm a hardworking guy that will give 110% every day to be the best I can be.

I'd say just right but at the same time I seen many great players go before and after me that could of easily been taking at my spot.

I would say a steal because I know my activity was down the past month but I know I'm going to pick it up completely and on top of updating my player and doing PT's and such consistently, I'm going to be as active as possible inside and outside the locker room, but I know there are some very good players taken after me that I know the Wolfpack had eyes on, but they took the chance on me.

The future will tell how I match up against my peers in the draft, but I feel like I was a great choice for the Wolfpack, and I'm determined to show that I was the perfect player to pick up at fifteenth.

Quote:Originally posted by TheNextGreatOne
Interview How do you see the Impact doing next season?
Definitely right back to where they were last year, but definitely going for the cup. Even if a player or two is called up, I feel like the Montreal will be on the cup hunt again and will be a bigger part in the bEastern Conference and show that we are a solid bunch. We got all the more better this off-season, and we are ready to prove that we are deserving of the championship.

Quote:Originally posted by Mac
Interview What was your first impression of the LR?
Insanely funny and surprisingly more active than I'd ever thought! Coming into the Wolfpack I was hoping the LR would be active, and knowing active the Montreal team was in the LR and how close we are there, I was surprised and excited to see the Wolfpack is even more active and we are definitely going to be a tight nit group. I'm loving the activity from everyone, definitely some of the new draftees, and it's definitely a lovely place to find myself in coming into the SHL.

Quote:Originally posted by Mac
Interview You had spoken to several Pack members before the draft, if you had not would you still have wanted to come to the Pack?
Coming into the end of the SMJHL season, I still didn't look into any SHL team or anything, not even the Pack besides talking to the guys there. I feel like the SHL is such a big league with so many teams that I could of been taken anywhere. That being said, I don't think I would of looked into the Pack as much as I did or at all if I didn't talk to Storm and the players here and finding out how awesome it is here, but I'm ever so glad I did because I feel like the Wolfpack is just right for me and I hope to be apart of the team for a long time.

Quote:Originally posted by Mac
Interview What do you want from your player this season?
Definitely better in his own zone, while at the same time progressing offensively in terms of playmaking. I feel like I had an alright season for my first season in the juniors, but either if I'm back down in Montreal or called up to the Pack, I want to solidify that I'm not a liability nor am I not a good playmaker. I want to become faster and pass better before even pre-season starts, so I hope I can improve my passing, skating, and my defense, and maybe putting some training into my strength so I'm not knocked off the puck. Last season I didn't put as much effort into specializing my playmaking talents due to wanting to work on my all around game, and now that I think I have a decent skill set all around, I definitely want to put all the focus on my fast skating passing game.

Quote:Originally posted by Mac
Interview How does it feel knowing this may be the most impressive draft the New England Wolfpack has conducted?
Honored. I couldn't believe it when I seen my name being drafted at the top of the second round in such a deep and talented draft, let alone seeing the names the Wolfpack taken before and after me. Knowing that I'll be playing with most if not all these guys soon enough in the SHL, let alone knowing how hard working and active these guys are just give me goosebumps. This is a special bunch of draftees, and I'm glad I was taken alongside them, definitely to such a great organization like the Pack.

Quote:Originally posted by Mac
Interview Being part of the Season 20 influx I saw instant chemistry within the group, I'd like to attribute that to scouting and ensuring we get the proper people who will integrate well into the locker room, would you say we have done so this time as well?
Easily. The Wolfpack grabbed solid blueliners like Clayton and Morenov to solidify the core of defensemen in the future, also grabbed a future star sniper in Flacko that can easily light the lamp game after game, and on top of that they grabbed good playmaking wingers like Hoover and myself that can definitely help Flacko and others put up offensive numbers. Not only are these great players on the ice, but so far off the ice we are all getting along great and I'm having a blast talking with each and every one of them. The Wolfpack is already a great bunch who are active and are just a great organization overall, and they definitely added to their future, and I hope we can prove to them that we are all going to be great on and off the ice.

Quote:Originally posted by Mac
Interview Was your player and username what you were drinking at the time?
Haha somewhat. It's mostly a nickname most people gave me seeing as my last name is Welch and the whole Welch's Juice company and such. Welch, Welch's Grapejuice, it just kinda stuck after the joke came out and it's just a nice nickname. Also because yes I was drinking it at the time. Tongue

Quote:Originally posted by Baelor Swift
Interview Prior to the draft, did you have any contact with teams other than New England?
Only a couple. Edmonton and Seattle made some contact with me a couple days prior to the draft. Although I was hoping the Wolfpack took me in the second round with one of their three picks, I knew both of those teams would of taken me with one of their mid second round picks, so I knew I would be taken somewhere in there. I was pleasantly surprised to hear my name called by the Wolfpack so quick, as I didn't expect them to use their first pick in the second round on me. I'm glad New England took me, but I wish both Edmonton and Seattle the best.

Quote:Originally posted by Baelor Swift
Interview Could you see yourself spending the better part of your career with the Wolfpack or would you consider leaving at the end of your ELC?
Definitely would love to stay most if not all my career here. Even before my draft and after I was drafted here, they were all so welcoming and it's just such a great group of people here. It's hilarious, active, and just a great time. The players here before and also the ones just drafted here are all great and friendly, and I can tell we are going to be a close bunch. I don't think I'd be able to love anywhere else as much as I love here, and I want to prove that I want to be apart of the Pack for as long as possible and prove that I'm a loyal and reliable guy.

Quote:Originally posted by Baelor Swift
Interview What do you project for your player's future in terms of role on the team and performance?
It's hard to tell with how talented all the new guys and old guys here before me, but I'd say a reliable second line guy that can play the first line or anywhere when needed that can be setup with someone that can score goals and help the team offensively while also being reliable in his own end. I want to be a plus player as well as someone that can wrack up the assists by helping my teammates pot some goals. We have lots of talented players though, and although I probably won't be at the very top of the list in terms of quality and point producing, but I hope I'll be consistent player the team can put it's trust in no matter the situation.

Hello! I figured something like this would happen, I'm definitely not as known as most of my other draftees.

Name is Chris Welch and I'm originally from Latvia and I played in Canada before being drafted 23rd overall in the S24 SMJHL draft by Montreal. In Montreal I played with fantastic players like Lord Pretty Flacko and Jesster and we played pretty good in the regular season, and then tremendously in the playoffs where we unfortunately were two wins away from winning the Four Star Cup. Even though we lost, we fuel from it to get better and work harder to get back to the finals and win the cup.

I'm a right wing playmaker at heart, but I can score some goals when I need to step up and also switch up to play either wing. I'm hoping to become a good speedy playmaker for the Wolfpack and the Impact that can be put on the top lines or anywhere on the lineup. I was taken 15th Overall (first pick of the second round) in the S25 SHL Draft.

Interview Which SHL players do you aspire to be like?
Being new, I haven't really looked into anyone that is like me player wise or looked into any of my favorite players around here, however I'd say I wanna morph into my own player.

Although I know there is strong chance I won't become apart of the HOF and become one of the greatest of all time, I want to get my name known and become the best playmaker I can be and prove I'm a loyal and reliable player that the Wolfpack can put trust in, because I want to be with New England the rest of my career.

Haha time will have to tell. I hope to become a solid assist producer, wanting to hit at least 25-30 assists a season and hopefully more, and I'll build myself to be just that type of player.
