I'm sure the HO will look into it. I'll just drop my two cents on the matter. First of all, the punishment for trading a pick you don't own is forfeiting a 3rd round pick. Not too bad. However, if you do it again, you're fired. Is that not harsh enough?

As for tampering, this is something that I am completely fine with. I was GM for 30 seasons and so I can understand GMs getting upset that their player is being given this amazing pitch to join another team while he's under contract with the team. The punishment is not too harsh. There's only so much we can control on this site, but trying to protect GMs from having their players courted by other teams while under contract is something we can. I don't care what excuse a GM will have as to why they tampered, do your due diligence and it won't happen. If you're caught tampering, you were lazy and didn't put in the time to make sure everything was OK. You can blame budgets or whatever you want, but if I wanted to find out if a player is under contract, I can find that info. The punishment is harsh for a reason. Don't tamper. You're a GM, act like it.

I didn't look at it through the lens of ice time. I just didn't like the idea of only playing 6 forwards. We're such a big league and you only have room for 6 forwards? Get outta here with that. Young players had to wait 2/3 seasons to come up to the SHL? That's not the way it should be. Hopefully now we can see some variety in the lineups and not just have 6 1000+ TPE players battle it out.

I think the meat of the discussion is on whether or not the exact minute comes into account or just the day he last signed in. I would think that Hamilton would get him, but I recall a situation when I was GM. I remember I was looking to grab an inactive from another team and looked at his last sign in date. The unfortunate thing is I don't remember all the details, but I think I remember waiting for the time that he last signed in and then I was beat to the punch. The problem is that I don't remember if I got beat because he was signed sooner and the time didn't matter or because I was just beat to the punch when the time came.

I’ve heard rumblings of shifting to one every ~3 seasons rather than every ~5. And it seems we’re already trending that way with these drafts in S31, S35, and the upcoming S39.

I guess it just depends on whether or not the reddit mods will let us post that often. Pros and cons too because with more time in between drafts, there's a better chance to get new eyes on it.

When did you know to call it quits as a GM?

4.

It wasn't a specific moment, but once I first let the thought into my head it just kept on coming up. I had never thought about stepping down before so having that finally come up was a sign that it might be time to think about it.

I'm not sure really. I don't know how my players legacies hold up in the league to be honest.

I have access to the ROOT admin account, don't know if that's what you mean.

Whew, finally off work and got some sleep, lol.

Yeah losing your job them second time is harsh, bit only losing a 3rd on them first offense seems very low comparred to them tampering thing.

While i do agree that tampering is shit, i do find the punishment crazy. ive been GMing in leagues for 2 years before i joined them shl, but quit just before i found this site. In those leagues tampering was frowned upon but not against them rules. Maybe thats why i find it silly, im just used to it. i made ut clear to my players to come to me If they were contacted so we could talk it out.

I always thought it was OK to show interest, i didnt(and still dont) really see it as tampering until money and contracts are being discussed.

But like, isnt the money, GM suspension and not being able to sign FAs? The team is already fucked for an entire season just by that, add 3(!Wink seasons first rounders, the team is fucked for a good while. Sure, "a good GM can turn it around", but isnt it the GM that should get the largest part of the punishment?

IMO it would be more than enough if the amount of picks were reduced to a single 1st round pick.

Of course we could make the punishment less harsh, but the whole point is to deter the act all together. I'm honestly surprised it keeps happening. I don't know, I'm in favour of it, but it seems some people don't like how big a punishment it is. To each their own I guess.

This most recent SHL Challenge Cup series was between two Canadian teams. When was the last time this happened in the SHL?

What non SHL related podcasts do you listen to, if any?

If there was one thing you wanted to change about this league, what would it be?

What ingredients would exist on your dream hamburger?

Due to wizardry and bullshit and tax evasion or whatever, you're suddenly presented with the need to immediately relocate an SHL team. Which team do you relocate and why?

Nylander or Marner?

In a theoretical world with more of that wizardry and bullshit, the SHL is suddenly blessed with the ability to source an extraordinary number of recruits on a regular basis, and start growing again the way it used to do back in S25 and before. How many (viable and active) teams would you accept in the SHL and SMJHL before you would start to feel uncomfortable with just how enormous the league has become?

1. Season 29, Calgary beat Hamilton.

2. I don't really listen to podcasts. I want to, but haven't made the jump.

3. Contracting the Dragons.

4. I'm a simple man. Lettuce, Tomato, Pickle, Onion, Cheese, Bacon, Ketchup, Mustard.

5. The Dragons because I hate them.

6. Marlander.

7. Man anything more than 10 per division would be crazy, no?
Will the punishments for different rule breakings be looked over? Tampering is really over the top If you compare it to things like trading away picks you dont own.

To jump in to clarify something, the drafts are based on when Reddit mods allow us to post (5-6 months apart, which ends up being roughly May/December), not on seasons.
