After a whole bunch of playoff shocks, including West Kendall losing in 6 to the Chiefs, we’ve arrived at the Challenge Cup Finals. Let’s take a look at the teams involved.

Dragons Calgary Dragons Dragons

Well, you’ve done it yet again. Another Challenge Cup final appearance for the Dragons. What a surprise. Joe Kurczewski and Louie Garrett have led you guys with 14 and 13 points apiece. Richard Hocolate has been very solid in net. But, the worrying thing for this team has the declining production of your old men veterans. Sure, the main old men (like Esa Anrikkanen, Randy Randleman, Alex Mack, and Nicholas Pedersen) are all hovering around 8 points, but Michael Boychuk and Pierre-Luc Laflamme are struggling to score. This is a team playing solid defense though. Adam Kaiser brings a physical presence to the blue line, and Roman Augustus has been their best offensive defenseman. The Dragons are also incorporating young talent into the team. Hunter Jones has been solid in a third-line role, but Ostap Maksimov has been struggling in the limited minutes he’s been given. This is likely your year. You’re the neutral’s favorite. Don’t fuck this up.

Chiefs Minnesota Chiefs Chiefs

I thought you would be easy fodder for the Wolfpack. You proved me wrong. When you advanced, I thought Hamilton would beat you senseless. You proved me wrong. You’re like a cockroach. You never fucking die. And you got your shit together like I asked you to. Thanks for that. Here you are, back in the Challenge Cup Finals, trying to retain your crown as the SHL’s best team. Sebastian Strange and Jonathan Lundberg have been amazing, with 17 and 15 points. The defense has been solid, with Alonzo Garbanzo, Noctis Caelum, and Isak Ødegård leading the way. You’ve got a physical star in Terrance Nova, who has 10 points and is second in assists. The goalkeeping has been great, as Olli O’Koivu has been solid as ever. The real x-factor here is attitude. It’s well known that Chiefs winger Logan Jensen is very immature. O’Koivu has said that Jensen’s attitude has led him to leave the locker room at times, which isn’t a good sign. If Jensen mans up, the team will have a good chance to repeat. If he doesn’t, you’re fucked. Really fucked.
