It's hard to believe it's already been one year in this position. When I first saw the announcement that the position of SHL commissioner was vacant, I was on the fence about whether or not I should apply. I had no head office experience, who knew if I'd enjoy doing it? What if I was terrible at it? What if I managed to kill a league that had managed to survive for 35 seasons at that point? In the end I figured what the hell, what are the odds they'll even hire me if I decide to apply. So I threw my hat in the ring, and lo and behold on May 1, 2017 I had a tag from Spangle in the head office letting me know I should have access and could go ahead and get started in my new role.

What a year it's been since then. I'd like to think I've made some positive contributions to the health of the league in that year, but I guess that's not for me to decide in the end. Some of the changes were met with mixed feelings for sure (such as the changes to rules about lines, making teams spread their ice time more evenly rather than just stacking a top-heavy team and running out a roster with only 9-10 actual players), but overall I think our league is in a better place than it was. We've gotten the offseason down the shortest I've seen it in my time on the SHL, and now this season we've got the playoffs as well running more smoothly so we can get through them much more quickly (especially the first two rounds) and ultimately end up with the least possible downtime for those teams on the outside looking in, keeping as many members involved as we can.

I've also fucked up quite a few times since then. It's bound to happen considering this job didn't come with a manual, but each mistake is a learning experience to ensure we don't have similar issues pop up again. Personally I blame Wally for all of them since he always seems to be involved in some way.

Of course, there's still a lot more I want to do. For this offseason (and likely into the regular season) the big thing I want to get done is an audit of job pay and trying to fix what really appears to be a totally broken system (such as updaters making $20M a season). Along with that I'd like to try to look into ways to get people involved in SHL activities outside of just the daily sim cycle, such as the old Rocket League tournament someone (possibly Artermis) put on a few seasons back.

In the end, I just want to thank everyone for giving me a chance for the past year. I'm glad I was finally able to provide the stability in this role that was missing for so long. Even if I haven't been the best at the job, I hope I haven't been the worst, or the end of the SHL like so many predicted I would be.

Here's to the next year, SHL. Hope it's as fun as the last.

Eggy Shl
booooooooooooooo
you've done a great job egg man

Lol I would like to say that I’ve officially been suspended 50 games under you regime. I did gain 4 of those back in my first season with Minny, because Andersson played too much. But hey, if not for me we wouldn’t have circumvent-gate, goalie-gate, school attendance-gate, a championship in Minnesota and one long, angry discord message that in the end brought us closer together. Here to another year of sim fun!

Seriously tho... keep it up Eggy, glad you stuck it out and are a big asset to the league.

*Now go update your god damn driver* <3
Best egg
I guess you could say your tenure has been.....

You've done a damn fine job, especially after having to pick up the pieces from that bum .bojo
I, for one, welcome our ovoid master.
