"It's a struggle knowing that you are always doubted."
Cameron Carter II, has come off back-to-back-to-back 40 point seasons, is feeling the pressure of being underrated. Whether it be advanced statistics slanted against him, people disliking him, or being overlooked entirely. It appears only some know Cameron has some sort of two way presence as most do not even care for him. Carter has now become one of the most underrated players in the league. Allegedly. It isn't just that CC2 isn't considered, no, he doesn't even get any votes.
Lets go back all the way to S43. All Rookie team and the Jesster trophy. Cameron Carter II was not nominated and did NOT receive a single vote for all rookie team. Not a single one. Cameron had more hits than all Jesster nominees combined and only trailed the rookie scoring leader by only 5 points.
For all rookie team, the winger slots went to James Dekens and Flacko Lagerfield. The Index for S43 can be found HERE
Although Flacko and CC2 scored the exact same number of points, they valued his lack of PP time to be a better indicator of his skill even though CC2 was the far more physical player. Look, it's fine Flacko got the nod if you want to go there but CC2 did not receive any votes and was shot down.
Now let us fast forward to just LAST season. S47. The Dar Nomination. CC2 was probably in the mix but I have no idea if he was truly discussed or pushed. The topic of this conversation will be CC2 vs. Teddy Cuddles.
At first thought you may go 'what in the world is he talking about? No way they are in the same realm just looking at the numbers. This guy is high'. Hold them horses. I'd say we were pretty darn close.
Keep in mind CC2 did play 2 more games due to being traded mid season. CC2 had Cuddles beat in hits and shots blocked and defensive metrics. Cuddles was not considered the best defensive forward on his team either, in fact there were at least 2 ahead of him. Offensively it may look like there is a nice gap in points, but CC2 has advanced numbers on his site and constantly shots up on the list of the top 25 forwards. Did they even give CC2 any real considerations? Was he discussed as a plausible counter to Cuddles? I have my doubts.
Lets look at THIS season. S48.
44 points. 197 hits. 212 shots. 16 shots blocked. There are very few players in the SHL with these numbers. Keep in mind that CC2 did not ply with Atmey or Kennedy for the majority of the season. He was left to be on the top line with the younger Smeb Brothers, mostly in Daniel and Parker. Some mixing between Westbroek centering or Kit on the wing. CC2 primarily played with young talent 5v5 and did not have the opportunity to get extra points off others.
I want the voters to look CAREFULLY at the numbers. CC2 is a legitimate top tier player and should be in consideration for all league teams and the Dar nominations. Can I not make a case that CC2 would be better than say Daniel Karlsson? Manuel Gotze? Jeff Brogen? Louie Garrett? There's a list of these guys that the league will vote instead of CC2 from what I fear to be hate or dislike. I just want the league to consider me and actually take a look at the numbers than just points from face value. Appreciated.
