A press conference was held this morning in Hamilton after the Steelhawks were eliminated from the playoff. The pending unrestricted free agent, Zander Rhys, was available to answer few of the questions. He confirmed that he will be a free agent this offseason.

This is the first time I get the chance to test free agency and I don’t want to miss it.</div></i>
This news doesn’t come as a surprise as we obtained from our trusted source that GM Hallsy tried extending the defenseman’s contract throughout the season without any success. Therefore, this is not a reaction due to the elimination in conference final, but rather calculated.
These are the conditions that Rhys will most likely look for when negotiating a contract:
• Top 2 play time
• Played in power play unit 1 and penalty kill unit 1
• Salary
• A team that is somewhat competitive
This offseason should be a exciting one!
