CW TRIVIA - 3 TPE yay 3. Written, 57 words - 1 TPE I think that the Barracuda’s strategy of running a deeper lineup and spreading scoring more evenly is tougher to stop, but Logan Webb has been so outstanding this postseason that he could easily prove me wrong. No team has been able to stop him so far, so maybe this finals series will be more of the same. 9. Written, 203 words - 4 TPE The Tampa Bay Barracuda are one of the teams that are the best at maximizing the output of their players regardless of their TPE level. I think this is because the Barracuda run a system that is not reliant on loading up high TPE players’ ice time. Tampa is a team that rolls their lines more equally, and spreads talent around, giving everyone a chance to succeed each season. I think a great example of this was Johnny Wagner-Svensson’s performance this season. JWS has been a star in this league for a while now, but he’s starting to get older. A few seasons into regression, JWS has begun his fall-off. Because of this, he was demoted to 3rd line duties. The coaching staff in Tampa expected JWS’s normally very high point numbers to fall off a bit as he was given less ice time than usual without the best linemates as well, but JWS still thrived, leading the team in points and having one of the best offensive seasons in the league. JWS was able to take advantage of easier matchups, while playing with some more defensively focused players which allowed him more space to do his thing out there on the ice. Add in some high level talent in guys like JWS and Max Carnage and you've got a recipe for success. I was a big fan of the addition of Zedward Zilliams as well. Adding him is part of why they're so potent on defense. Having one of the elite defensive units in the league certainly makes Soonika's job easier. From a meta perspective, it seems to me that Tampa values positioning more than any other team in the league. I could be wrong, but when doing the weekly updates and offseason builds in the file, I feel like I noticed Tampa favoring it. Maybe I'm wrong, or just noticed like 2 players and it made me assume it was a team thing. I also believe their GM likes to think outside the box and do thing differently than other teams. So I could see them finding a somewhat unorthodox set of lines and combination of strategies that is working for them. They seem to have a winger as their top scorer more than most teams, so maybe they've found something there. Code: 14. Written, 50 to 200+ words.- The Procrastinator Special! No real surprise that SFP won the cup. The league is dominated by offense, and no team really does it better. You could argue Atlanta did in the regular season, but in recent seasons both regular and post, SFP has been the best. The only thing Tampa could have really done is try to slow down the game, keep scoring low, try to win a defensive battle. Sounds easy, but it is not even remotely easy with the forward depth the Pride have. Their 3rd "worst" forward could be on the top line on quite a few teams. As good as Tampa is defensively, it's a very tall order. I think focusing forwards to build an overwhelming offense is possibly the best team building strategy. I hope that balance is better, but I worry that it might not be. RE: S80 Championship Week - Ruggsy - 01-26-2025 CW pass RE: S80 Championship Week - downer - 01-26-2025 CW Pass |
