Being the youngest of the O'Bigbers clan, Toasty felt alienated by his family. In the success of the Pride and that first Challenge Cup win, he and Willow got married in Vegas in a spur of the moment thing and all of that fell apart when she inevitably chose to move to south Cali. Since then, Toasty has sworn off most relationships with anyone. The off-season represents a time where he can get away from it all and focus on himself. Reflect on the past season and look forward to what he can do to be the best player imaginable in the season to come. During the off-season he typically flees to Krkonoše, a region of mountains in Czechia where he can get away from the "noise" of the outside world before returning to the hustle-and-bustle lifestyle of the SHL and North America. Code: 165 RE: S81 PT #0: It’s All About The Hockey - Alaska - 02-16-2025 You guys are getting rest in the offseason? Dominik hasn’t had a real break in the last two seasons, jumping straight from the Challenge Cup finals to representing Czechia at the IIHF before getting a couple days rest and heading back to California for training camp. In reality though, those couple of days of rest are extremely important, so he’s not really the biggest fan of the various offseason skates that people put on. Dominik doesn’t mind showing up to help as an instructor at youth camps though. He finds that it is a good use of his time to be able to help little kids that are learning to skate or wanting to pick up a stick for the first time. It helps that he has been pretty successful in the SHL, and the kids love the opportunity to learn from a real SHL player, even if he’s mostly there to be supportive, sign autographs, and be helpful to the people doing the actual teaching. WC: 166 RE: S81 PT #0: It’s All About The Hockey - Citizen of Adraa - 02-16-2025 prompt #1 It's a lonely life to be a hockey player so far away from home, and mr. Hlemýžď is no different. A younger guy, that moved to the US just to play hockey, you spend quite a lot of your year stuck in gyms, in training rinks, and travelling, so finding friends away from your team is kinda complicated. Meaning, mr. Hlemýžď mostly enjoys spending his summers with the people that he knows - and that also often means playing hockey with them. And naturally, when you are still kept in the cycle of being around and with your teammates, you will never quite forgive yourself for letting yourself grow complacent and therefore, you are always kinda pushed to be better more and more the longer you spend around teammates. As a defenseman, in games where there are only 2 or 3 players per side, the defenseman's job becomes oh so much more offensive than in a normal 5 on 5 game, and that's kinda useful for the OT scenarios. RE: S81 PT #0: It’s All About The Hockey - ryzuko - 02-16-2025 Life becomes a little less busy when there's no hockey to be playing. These spanning months are often a bit of a tumultuous time for the Grizzlies' rink-rat Kienen McKeller. He's a boy that has to constantly be on the move--and after checking up with family at home in Southern California, he immediately seeks out his old friends to play a couple gigs nearby. Drumming, after all, is a pastime whose birth for Kienen much preceded that of ice hockey. He's practically been able to do it since being able to walk. After playing a few shows and visiting the local scene once more, Kienen would take off and play a few pickup games at his hometown rink in Ontario, California, training there with old coaches before making the flight out to Juniors with teammate Dirty Puma, whose also been his friend on and off the ice in Great Falls. The upcoming season would be an important one for Kienen--after being drafted later than he'd like to be to the bolstering city of Baltimore, he's got something to prove and no time to waste. RE: S81 PT #0: It’s All About The Hockey - chetib - 02-16-2025 Tibuk really prides himself on being a proud Swiss countryman. He spends a considerable amount of the off season working with some of his fellow IIHF teammates as we work together to try and bring home that gold medal. Training consists of more than just on ice drills and work outs but also includes things like gym training and conditioning work outs. You'd think that would be most of it but because of all the beauties that Switzerland has to offer there are also lost of extra activities that people like to take part in such as mountain climbing, hiking, and all sort of outdoor activities in the mountains. Tibuk has even passed an offer to his teammates from Tampa Bay that should they want to come and take part in some of the outdoor activities he would be certainly happy to showcase his beautiful country has to offer for adventurers 151 words RE: S81 PT #0: It’s All About The Hockey - Schocar - 02-16-2025 Written Option 2 James Howlett's most important person in his life will always be Rose, his cousin who he ran from the law with for most of his life. She's younger than him by a notable few years, and it was for her sake that James really started playing hockey. Now that he's made it big enough to support her and they don't have to worry about where they'll get their next meal from, the roles have almost switched. Rose has fully grown past their days in the Canadian wilderness, and is ready to leave that part of their life behind. So she takes it on herself to ground James, to help him live instead of focusing on their survival if you will. This most recent offseason James took off into the woods to reconnect with what he feels as his roots, much to Rose's chagrin (see the All-star week prompt for writing a letter). This leaves James and Rose in a precarious situation, where Rose may have just outgrown needing James in her life. As much as James is loathe to admit relying on someone, he still needs her in his. Now, don't get me wrong, Hockey is very important in bringing people together, and just in general for a lot of people with a lot of the shit that is going on in the world, but for Solaire, there is so much more to life then just Hockey. For example, Solaire really wants to just get home to where he belongs, and yet he still has no idea how to get there. Blacksmith Andre has been able to get home, after retiring, but it was so sudden that no one really knew he was going to be gone until poof he was gone. Solaire wants that same thing to happen to him, where this could all just be a fever dream and he ends up back where he belongs. But until that happens, you have to realize that there are so many other things going on in people's lives that is more important then hockey. (168 words) RE: S81 PT #0: It’s All About The Hockey - Ferda - 02-16-2025 Billy Herrington values the offseason as a time to reconnect with the people who matter most to him. While he doesn’t have a spouse or kids, he surrounds himself with a close-knit circle of friends and teammates who have become like family. His bond with his parents and siblings is strong, and he makes a point to visit them whenever he can, especially during the break between seasons. Despite his intense training schedule, he ensures that he spends quality time with them, whether it’s a simple dinner, a weekend getaway, or just catching up over the phone. Beyond family, Billy is incredibly close with his teammates, often organizing group trips or training sessions to keep everyone in shape while still enjoying the time off. He also spends time with his sports psychologist, Van Darkholme, not just for mental training but because they’ve built a genuine friendship over the years. Billy’s offseason isn’t just about relaxation—he’s also deeply involved in his community, making appearances at charity events, training camps, and even helping out with youth hockey programs. Whether it’s spending time with his loved ones or giving back to the sport, he makes sure his offseason is just as fulfilling as his time on the ice. RE: S81 PT #0: It’s All About The Hockey - SDCore - 02-16-2025 Phoenix is using this off season to train and hang out with his brother and sister. He knows from here on out he will see old Baldy but who knows when he will see his sister, so he is taking the time to sit and do the stupid things he has taken advantage of in the past. This includes kissing and hugging them more than neccessary. Baldy hates it but Ocey is understanding. Spending a lot of time arguing over out favorite national team and what we all want, all or none realizing this is all changig soon. This is a bittersweet off season. At least Baldy and I get to go to San Diego soon together. We will miss Ocey Docey, but I can't let her know that yet. It's too soon and I only have so much time before I can make her sad. Oh well, here we go... Back to the fun of being just we three... RE: S81 PT #0: It’s All About The Hockey - Zerg - 02-16-2025 Grzegorz Brzeczyszczykiewicz preferred to train alone before he came to LA. Thereafter, he was banned from training outside of club supervision after the GM learned of his practice routine of taking clay pigeons to his face. He protested heavily that this only reminded him of his childhood in Poland, but the club holds to newfangled nonsense ideas such as "player safety" and "CTE", neither of which are things he'd ever heard of before, but at last he obeyed the GM and did his training under club supervision. Unfortunately for everyone else involved, a non-player employee of the Panthers org shared this trivia tidbit with one of Los Angeles' premier sports journalism Neanderthals, Bark Badden. Mr Badden proceeded to use his radio show to tell the world how soft the SHL has gotten, and that if he had his way, he'd make the forwards take clay pigeons to the face too until they stopped being afraid to block shots. Fortunately, Grzegorz's teammates were quite willing to believe that he wasn't the one who leaked this and a locker room crisis was averted, but the Panthers org were doing damage control across the league for weeks. The leaker was eventually identified and fired. RE: S81 PT #0: It’s All About The Hockey - JejuDaejiGogi - 02-16-2025 Written Option 2 Damante Gogi knows the importance of quality time spent with family and friends. During the offseason, Damante takes a deep dive into one of his favorite hobbies, cooking, to share with his family and friends. He really enjoys cooking up Korean dishes for his family and close friends. His close friends, Barabara Banatube and Mel Guolla hang out with Damante and his house and try out his attempts at new dishes. The other week Damante tried to make homemade apple jam which didn't turn out so well but they had a blast hanging out and talking about what everyone had been up to during the off season. Damante likes to spend the offseason at local hockey rinks for events with children. He wants to be a good role model for the next generation of hockey players. Damante has been itching to get back to the regular season again although he had been having such a great offseason. RE: S81 PT #0: It’s All About The Hockey - Tsunny - 02-16-2025 Written Option 2: While Sonja is definitely the hardworking type, she also knows how important it is to not burn herself out too early. After all just like any other sport it's all about maintaining a high quality performance for a long period of time. The longer the better to be precise. As such, she tries to only train as much as she needs to maintain her fitness level. Besides being a Norwegian it's not like she has many chances to visit home during the season. As such offseason is her only chance. Her parents are everyday working people so it's not like she can just fly them out anytime she wants either. So it's always nice to visit home. As for her siblings, well the two she has are also professionals, her twinsister Frøya is in the same team while her younger sister, Ela is still in the J. So they are easier to reach. As for any partner, she is single for the time being but who knows, that could change in the future. She is not against the idea of a boyfriend. In the meantime she's got three cats at home who keep her company. An Orange cat called Garfield, a tuxedo one called Max and a Norwegian Forest Cat called Elisabeth. (212 words) |
