I don't mess with any of the new guys. @TipToasty and @hotdog are going on and on about this game they play like, every day. I don't understand it. But I won't get involved. They have books about it, they spend hours during our teams free time reading them and talking about it with each other. They watch old tapes of us playing at night together with there little tablets, it is really a distraction. We are on the road, we are suppose to be putting the pillow cases in the ice machine bucket thing, filling it up with ice, and throwing it at @G2019 Window at 3am. They do this party lifestyle all wrong. Sure the coaches and @luke tell me the tablets are "Team issued" and the "Games" they are playing are really the strats we run for the games, but what do they know? They prob all play fortnight too.

The Steelhawks are on the road! which means for the next couple of nights they will be living out of a hotel room! hopefully they are nice rooms, but knowing the steelhawks management, probably not! During their first night at the hotel, Trevor was paired up with one of the rookies on the team. while they are waiting for the room to be ready, Trevor notices that the rookie has been on his gameboy thingy the whole time and hasnt looked up once from that screen. eventually they make it to the room and the boy is still glued to the screen, well Trevor cant let this happen, after all is this kid even worried about or gonna be ready for the game tomorrow? So Trevor confronts the kid and tells him to put it down, we are going out and hes not taking no for an answer. Well after some groaning the kid agrees. They go and have a good chat at the bar, even though the kid isnt old enough to drink, they still talk about what it means to be a on a team and that everyone needs to be locked in that his teammates might get worried if he is glued to screen all the time. So hopefully thats the end of that and the kid will learn a lesson from this or something

Written Option 1:

Yuri Boyka III is staying at a hotel during one of the roadtrips and he didn't know that he will be paired up with a rookie. Boyka III was just recently trade from Winnipeg Aurora to Manhattan Rage and it is his first time with the team on the road trip. He notices that the rookie is playing EA fc 25 on a ps5 he brought from home. He speaks to the rookie and asks if this is his hobby to which the rookie replies yes. Boyka III was a little worried at the start and was contemplating telling the management but he did his due diligence on the rookie. He found out that the rookie has great work ethics on the ice and is always one of the first ones at the practice. He has seen videos of the rookie and he has top notch talent. As a result, Boyka III decided that this is of no huge matter. This game is what relieves stress from this kid and it is completely fine. When the time comes, the rookie will without a doubt lock in. So Boyka III, decided to join in on the fun and play ea fc 25 with him

An RPG element is add to SHL would be the ability to buy a “career archetype” when you create a player. I’ve noticed some users have grotesquely large bank accounts (looking at you luke) and I see this as an opportunity for a large money sink.

The quality of the archetype would determine pricing. For example a generational prospect archetype would start with bonus tpe, and be incredibly pricey. Other archetypes could provide minor changes that allow users to come up with new head canons for their players. Maybe the juniors star archetype allows a user to surpass the SMJHL cap, but would have a cap on their SHL tpe. A journeyman archetype could have reduced regression costs, so a user could make Jaromir Jagr 2.0 if they wanted.

I think there’s a lot of room for different archetypes that would allow users to define their career in a meaningful way. Perhaps a user wants to role play a career altering injury, or a late bloomer, they can do that while we also take SHL bucks out of circulation.

Gnabe does not take well to the rookies doing some of that youth crap. He is going tk .are sure everyone knows about this and he is going to make things right on the team. The first thing he js going to do is unplug and crack that shit becusse we don't do that in hotels, only one planes. Then we are going to tell the rest kf the boys about this travesty and the team will get this youth ready to actually practice in his free time. This will entail a full class taught by several teammates in dropping the mjts and doing the job of a real man on the ice. We then will .ake sure the rookie is bullied relentlessly until they start tk fight normally at games. Once this happens we will let the young gun have a beer or 7 to show him that this is the way and this is how the sport should be played in both his free time and at his job.

Grindle notices it right away, kid barely looks up from his Switch unless it’s time to skate. At first, he shrugs. Not his circus, not his monkeys. But by day three, it’s starting to bug him. Not because of the games, Grindle plays too. way better than this guy, but because he sees something familiar: hiding. So he waits for the right moment, then casually drops,

“Y’know, I used to bury myself in that stuff too. But it won’t help you when the lights hit and you’re alone at center ice.”

The kid laughs it off, but Grindle doesn’t push. Next night, though? No console. They watch a late game together instead. Talk hockey. Life. Goals. Grindle doesn’t snitch, doesn’t switch rooms, he just shows up. Quiet mentorship.

A week later, the kid’s still gaming. but a little less. And now he stretches before bed.

Grindle’s not a parent. But sometimes? The vibe check is the coaching.

Option 2

Obviously what the SHL needs is the free form role playing of tabletop rpgs. I'm talking about dungeon master for every sim, with players taking turns responding to the situation in game and rolling dice to make checks as required by the dungeon master. Just imagine - the opponent has the puck. It's your initiative. Normally you'd just have enough actions to reach him and end your turn, but you take a charge action, risking a penalty, to skate to him and check him off the puck. Roll for body check - total of 18, two higher than his puck control - that forces a turnover! He fails his balance check and hits the ice! The crowd goes wild! On her turn, your defense partner scoops the puck and rolls a 15 on her breakout pass, springing the transition. Wow, who knows what your player might do in half an hour when it's your turn again?
