Because it would literally be giving up an asset he doesn't have to give up for a player he doesn't have to give you. It's not a narrative, it's just playing his cards as a GM in the situation he was in. Samee would have been foolish to make this so-called fair trade. If anything, I think you're failing to see it from his perspective. Like, take the "strong-arming the GMs" narrative out of the other side and provide one good reason why he should trade for Elias instead of just recreating and trying again next season.

Seriously, I'm just asking anyone to take the moral obligation to "draft your player with your first available pick" or "have the decency to let Samee draft himself in the second round" on either side out. Explain to me, anyone, literally anyone, what New England or any other team would have gotten out of this other than a laugh?
They got whatever % chance samee was bluffing and willing to trade for his guy. Obviously he made teams aware he'd be retiring if someone took him, but that's really dumb by samee. Why lock yourself into wasting 2 months instead of starting off spending 2 hours negotiating?

Im sure its stressful, but what if he at least took a night to bitch at them and try to get his player for some inconsequential pick? It's not an option cause they killed themselves tho. Insta retiring and refusing to negotiate at all is short sighted I think, especially if he's gonna wait till after the smjhl draft for a new player. Could spend all that time grinding them down instead of a sure 2 months on a new guy.

Yep! Even dudes like Slowpoke who went 51st overall are having great SHL careers. Stupid, stupid draft.
As a first gen player, I dont think anyone, even me, expected me to stick around. Ive always been on the low end of the TPE for our class, but Texas is such a wholesome place to be that I could never leave. So much better than that other place that drafted me.

The scummy move is not select your own player when you have the chance, get greedy and overreact when another team does nothing wrong. You're trying to spin in this into some shady move by NEW and it's not. Samee KNEW the rules going in and disobeyed them TWICE, WHO CARES if NEW wasted a 2nd, they pretty much knew that from the start, not on your ass to call them scummy when it could've happened to anyone. Bottas told Samee that we might the do the same thing to him, would you call us scummy?

Who cares what you thought about the potential left on the table when NEW selected Elias it's not on you to tell a team what to do with their picks, Samee KNEW he needed to draft his player and wasn't held to the Co-GM rule. Stop putting the onus on NEW and trying to wreck their "reputation" for doing whatever they wanted to do with their fucking draft pick. Samee thought just because he's a half a season GM think he's deserves the respect other GMs do? no, that doesn't happen that way, you earn respect and I'm sorry I would've done the same damn thing.

Sometimes life lessons are hard to learn but it doesn't pay to be greedy and expect others to play your game.

You live and you learn, I can't think of a better life lesson to learn here. Don't expect people to bow down to you when you haven't done enough to make them bow.

Are you always this angry?

I get this wasn't a reply to me, but I'm actually impressed that my request for a post that didn't take a stance on either team's morality was this ... thing. Life lessons? Seriously? Yes, I'm sure Samee will one day teach his kids the very valuable lesson Toivo taught him on the internet last night.

Give me a fucking break with this shit right here
Yes Zach I completely believe Samee will sit down and teach his kids about this certain event in his life /s okay no we got that BS out of the way... No I don't believe that and you know I didn't think that. Taking that way is a cynical way to look at it. What I'm talking about is that its a lesson learned that "people don't give a fuck about what you want" Thats real life, you want something take it with your opportunities. Being greedy doesn't pay and don't ever expect other people to cater to your wants and needs. He had two chances to do what he needed to do and he didn't. Not anyone's fault but his, I'm sorry.

Because giving up even an inconsequential pick is more than it will cost Seattle for him to start over and go again next season. The only cost to Samee is two months of his time. If that's a sacrifice he's willing to make, then that pretty much settles it. Would *I* be that stubborn in Samee's position? Probably not. But if that's his plan and he made it clear that was his plan, I just don't get calling his bluff on this. Just me.

Also how tf are you awake isn't it like 3am where you are? :D

You seriously going to ask me that? May I have a view that differs than the masses?

You ask me if i'm angry, I'm not. I just think that this whole shit is blown way out of proportion and could've been corrected a hundred different ways. How? maybe draft your player if you know you need to draft him. Pretty simple tbh.

If anyone is being the cynic here, it's you, man, comparing how "people don't give a fuck what you want" in real life to whether or not Samee should have used a first round draft pick in a fake hockey league on his own player that nobody else would be able to use anyways. But whatever, I gotta go to work. I'm sure I'll check back in later.

The tired old "fake hockey league" retort to diminish what the league is got it. Have fun at work bud.

People liked TDW so they didn't want to do that to him. No one would have thought it was funny.

People liked TDW?

I've put my share of time into this league, but it sure as shit isn't real life.

To play devil's advocate, if the lesson is "nobody give a fuck what you want" then I'd say Samee has the lesson under control. He didn't give a fuck what New England wanted, which is why he retired and we are having this conversation. Is not giving a fuck what people want just a one way street orrrrrrr?

Work is off to such a splendid start that I felt jumping back into this thread was more enjoyable than dealing with the next barrel of bullshit at work, so that's unfortunately how *those* genuine well-wishes are working out thus far. I appreciate the kindness all the same, I'll try to turn it around from here.
