It needs to go someone who will shape the future not someone who is from the past. We can all agree Patty has put every ounce of effort he has into this franchise but giving him the C when he is 1-2 seasons away from retirement is silly.

You learn from other clubs and give it to a young leader who shows a lot of grit and braun. Zajac, Greene (maybe) and Adam are the top 3 imo.

Also, I hope Tootoo doesn't get a serious look because we don't need to be on the PK for a guaranteed 4 minutes a night regardless.

What the lines look like after the first day of practice:

Cammalleri - Zajac - Jagr
Zubrus - Elias - Havlat
Clowe - Henrique - Ryder
Ruutu - Josefson - Brunner

Greene - Merrill
Gelinas - Larsson
Salvador - Zidlicky

Injuries aside that's a pretty decent looking line up

Well Merrill might be out with a concussion, collided with Fedotenko yesterday in practice and it looks like he's not practicing today, they have Severson paired up with Greene in his spot.

Can we just take a moment to look at the upcoming D-core?

Code:
Greene - Merrill
Gelinas - Larsson
Severson - Santini

Joshua Jacobs as well, then we have some minor ones like Helgeson and Scarlett

Devils win 5-4, always feels nice to kick the preseason off with a win, a few thoughts:

Reid Boucher - He looked so incredibly quick out there tonight, he was flying all night and was just making things happen every time he was on the ice. If he keeps playing this I want a spot to be made for him.

Adam Henrique - Picking up right where he left off, two goals and an assist, including the game winner with an absolute beauty of a shot, he looked dominant tonight. He's gonna hit 25+ goals this year easily, I wouldn't even be surprised to see him net 30.

Michael Ryder - Great game, was creating opportunities and got a couple goals and an assist as well, i'd love to see him have a bounce back year this season.

Marty Havlat - Looked real shifty out there and clearly has some great hands, picked up an assist on Gelinas' goal, I pray to god he can stay healthy because if he can he'll be a good player for us.

Mike Komisarek - Cut him tomorrow morning, what a fucking pylon.

Damon Severson - Was solid, nothing more, nothing less. Made some good, intelligent plays but not anything that's gonna rip a job away from anyone else.

Adam Larsson - Played a nice game, caught an unlucky break on the Kreider goal but he looked more aggressive than in the past and I look forward to seeing him in the lineup for a full season.

Eric Gelinas - Played fine defensively, played great offensively. That bomb on the point is something special, loved seeing that PP goal from him tonight.

Jacob Josefson - Looked noticeably quicker out there to me and still has the hockey smarts, with some better linemates he could've really done something out there tonight.

Stefan Matteau - Not a lot offensively but he was a head ache for the Rangers physically, pretty sure he led the game in hits with 6 or 7.

Scott Clemmensen vs Keith Kinkaid - Clemmer looked real shaky in there tonight, that Hagelin was as soft as it gets and he didn't have good lateral movement. Kinky came up with some big saves tonight to help us get the win, he was left out to dry on the couple he did let up but overall he was solid. As of now, I want him as our #2 going into the season.
