Nice, looking forward to browse this!

Could you maybe talk a little bit about the financial side of this as well, like how much of the sales is going to the store, how much is used for the site, how much goes to the designer etc..? Or is it simply "everything goes to the store and a 5% markup for the league? In that case I for one would be in favor of a higher mark-up to both gross some more money for the league and to be able to maybe pay the designers and other people working on this. Maybe 10% going to the side and 10% going to the people involved?

This is really nice. Risky to buy if team can relocate in any moment, but still so damn cool! Smile

RE: SHL Merch Store is Live! - sköldpaddor - 11-25-2020

all I want for Christmas is for redbubble to start printing front and back shirts so we can have shirseys

RE: SHL Merch Store is Live! - Count Chocula - 11-25-2020

This is awesome and all, but are the members who created the logos being compensated for selling their artwork?

Also where’s the J merch?

Also need hats TBH

-Edit-
Alright so I don’t mean to sound negative here. I feel like this is a great starting off point. There are some peculiar items available here. And then there are some omission I believe would be big money earners. I’m not sure if you’re working on it or logistically if it’s possible. Here are some ideas I have that I think people would pay money for:

-Team hats
-Beanies
-Shirts with logos and player names/# on back
-Practice jerseys with logo
-Actual Team Jerseys (stitch or even screen prints)

I have no idea about the first part but as somebody who has frequently bought stuff from redbubble, the items you see are the items they basically offer for all artwork. They don’t do graphics on back, and they don’t offer hockey jerseys of any sort. They also just offer all those “peculiar” items so I don’t think HO or anybody was like “you know what we definitely need is an Edmonton blizzard iPad case” Smile

I would also definitely buy shirseys as I mentioned above but there are limitations on what sites provide printing services without the artist having to put up significant money up front to make a custom product, whereas redbubble is basically just “plug your images in and we will sell products with your image on them and pay you part of the proceeds”

Not involved with the process or the league, but I can give my two cents. A few years ago a friend and I briefly had a clothing company that we tried to get off of the ground. When you're slapping your logo on things, there's two general ways to go about doing it. One, is find a local print shop and work with them. The second, which the league has done here, is to work with a third party company who deals with all of the printing and shipping etc, essentially removing the company (in this case that's the SHL) from having to do any of the grunt work like figuring out stock, finding a place to store the stock, and that kind of thing.

I didn't deal with Redbubble specifically, but from what I saw with another company is you basically give them your logo, and they'll give you a big list of what you can put the logo on. So that would be why some items that might be a bit more uncommon (postcards, throw pillows, etc) are on the list. It costs nothing to offer the items, and on the off chance someone wants to mail out San Francisco Pride themed Christmas cards this year, the league and Redbubble will make a bit of coin off of it!

Either the artist or owner of each of the logos in the SHL store gave permission for them to be used.

5% to donations, the rest to redbubble. We spoke to each logo rights owner and people who designed shl logos before proceeding with this. Everyone agreed to this without compensation to the creators. The base prices aren't super cheap for things so we didn't want to have a high markup. We also aren't considering this a sole source of money for the site, it's something we set up because people would want it and its cool to have some merch out there, the bit of money going into the donation account is a nice bonus.

Thanks for the info! Even without the creators wanting anything I think I would still be in favor of a higher mark-up just to help with site costs Smile. It's not that big of a difference per individual purchase but could really add up for the site as a whole!

By the way since this is a semi-commercial endeavour, do you guys have any plans on how to keep the league updated on how things go to be as accountable as possible, for example by sharing sales or revenue numbers on a monthly or quarterly basis?
