Regina heads into the playoffs ready for the role of spoiler! Playing Kelowna in round one, the team has gotten together to talk strategy and how to limit Kelowna’s scoring as we head into what should be a high scoring series. As the days led up to the start of the series the team took a couple days for a team building exercise. Overdoo and Gumba were suspiciously missing from the event. Montange spent the days trying to make sure that McLavish knew his place as the backup goalie and that this was her series to win. Jones took time to work with Kikuchi on how to actually win a fight, if he wants to be a goon he may as well do it properly. Vet player Speedwagon, Ramza and Bingus all just had to sit back and laugh as all the rooks tried their best to prepare for their first J playoff series.

The Knights are preparing really well for the playoffs, it starts with getting every player in the right headspace to face the pressure, and that comes with making sure that every single player is relaxed but still focused and sharp on their game. The coaches have given us a good balance, between some rest to prepare, a decent amount of practice, but also off ice mental practice. We know what we can do on the ice, but I think it's that off ice, mental side of things that really makes the difference. Watching some film sure, but the bosses are preparing us really well for the pressure, making sure we know how to handle the extra intensity that comes with playoff hockey at this level, and making sure no one is going to crumble.

I think it really showed how well that worked, against Regina you know we came out flying, game 1 went to overtime and we stayed focused, kept things good and won it, and then went on and won the rest of the games in the series too. Taking a sweep in series 1 (not even letting them get 1 back) is a testament to how well prepared mentally we were.
