RE: S62 PT#6: Wrap-up - C9Van - 12-14-2021

Prompt 2 for me this time around. Honestly I am happy we made the semi finals but really hope we win the ring this season. Mainly cause regression is going to kick my ass and I will be going into free agency. I am very unsure who is going to want my old ass as my regression basically giga speeds up to quite a lot and I may have to play depth for a good team. I really am unsure what will happen. But for now my main focus is actually just these playoffs before Balitmore say goodbye to me once and for all. It was quite interesting to see me finally play after 41 seasons in the making (They once drafted me in 2014 by trading up to get me) so I am interested to see what will happens at the end of this season but I am limited on my time with this player potentially. I guess we will have to see what happens.

PROMPT 2- If you don't understand the previous prompt or that one doesn't sound fun to write about, try this prompt.

Written Task: Write 100 words about anything SHL related. Venting, talking about your season, talking about site features you're excited/not excited about, fun times in LRs, whatever you want.

It's been a while since I was in the SMJHL and, while I am generally enjoying it, there is one thing that kind of bothers me, and that is the capped TPE limits. Forcing players to stop updating at 350, then again at 425 - well, you spend basically 3 seasons only getting to update your player once in that time. As the season goes on, there's nothing you can update or change without spending money to re-allocate. This makes it kinda boring and not motivational to do PTs and update and is probably a big reason why so many players fade out. I really think there should just be a 500 TPE straight cap, or heck, why not 600! But probably 500 just so there's not as huge a gap between raw rookies and 4th season players. With that sort of change, at least 2nd and 3rd season players could be motivated to continue to be active for their entire J careers, which seem to have to be at least 3 or 4 seasons now.

Prompt 2

This season in the SHL was a good season for me. Maybe not for Dirty Boots as the Falcons have been struggling but for me. After all of the experience with my first season, getting drafted, team interviews and meeting lots of people on the site and then going through a similar process with the SHL draft I got a lot of experience with talking to new people and being a part of something. I also had the opportunity to join the SMJHL HO this season as an intern and I've been learning a lot of the behind the scenes stuff which has been really cool. I took all this experience and applied it to real life. I started applying to more things around work, talking to more people, I got myself a promotion and high interest from another company. Without the SHL I may still have been stuck in my old position but it's given me a drive to do a little bit more. I'm really thankful for that. I'm also very thankful to all the friends and everyone here I talk to frequently. This is such a great place to be and I look forward to another season!

RE: S62 PT#6: Wrap-up - Matteo - 12-15-2021

Even though I've already played three full seasons in the SHL, I'd like to consider myself as a younger player, especially since I haven't reached any of the milestones I'd like to achieve before hitting regression. It would seem that the game sees me the same way, as much to my delight (and a little bit of relief and surprise), it placed me on the up-and-comers team. Well sort of, the game must have noticed that I was at my best playing in the best tandem in the SMJHL, so the legendary Tyler Ward was selected alongside me to split starts. It really is a smart game, since the whole lineup is made up of former QCC stars. Up front, it may seem strange at first choosing three right wings to be your forwards, but when you look at the names it all makes sense. Chosen to be the right winger is the legendary Zdenko Beranek, who has a Fallah, Lindsay, and Martucci trophy under his belt. On the left side is left shot William Salming, often an unsung hero of the team, and centering them is Kev Kevens, who is the best of the three at faceoffs. On defense is arguably the best pairing in QCC history, Teylora Petrov and Jasper Maximov. This was a very tight knit group from when they all entered the SMJHL in Season 55 for the expansion Citadelles (save for Ward who joined the team a season later) all the way up to when they left Quebec City for their respective SHL teams right after winning the Four-Star Cup in Season 58 (except Teylora, who got called up after Season 57, and Ward after Season 59), so when we all saw each other for the first time in a long time it was like no time had passed, each of us were joking around with each other, reminiscing about our days in QCC, and talking about our time so far in the SHL. Nobody ever said it, but we all knew that we were the underdogs going into this tournament, especially before we found out who our teammates would be. Once we saw each other's faces, though, all of our doubts were immediately washed away. We were fired up, ready to take on the first team in the tournament.

The up-and-comers are looking strong going into their first game against the grizzled vets. With Mat Smith starting, at first it was a little weird to see his usual teammates lining up against him on the opposite end, but it's something he'll just have to get used to. Still though, it must have been weighing on his mind at first since the first goal of the game was scored by former Chicago teammate Gunnar Soderberg. It was a nice feed from Smith's good friend Cassius Darrow, and Smith got it, but it must have just barely gotten through his pads as it trickled into the net behind him. As the night went on Smith got better, but his opponent between the vets' pipes, Harry Carpet (Smith's opponent in Toronto and teammate in Finland), was a brick wall, stopping every shot he faced. The final score was 1-0 in a somewhat defensive game, 20 shots for the vets and 21 for the young guns, and suddenly that confidence that the up-and-comers were feeling going into the tournament was starting to waver. Nobody took the loss harder than Smith, though, as he knew that one goal should have been his. This tournament wasn't going to be an easy one to win, and little mistakes like that could cost them everything.

Well this game was just embarrassing for the young guns after a tough loss to the grizzled vets. Nobody on the team played well against those hall-of-famers, most of which Smith only recognized as the people who most of the awards were named after. Tyler Ward got the start, and after giving up 5 goals on 20 shots in the first period and a half, Smith was put in. He did no better in the second half, allowing another 6 goals on top of that on 22 shots. The up-and-comers could take solace in the fact that it wasn't a shutout loss though, as Kev Kevens scored a greasy grindy goal late in the 3rd, final score 11-1 for the Hall-of-Famers. The young guns were frustrated going into the locker room, most of all with themselves, and knew that they all had to be better if they wanted a shot coming out of the round robin.

Well confidence is at an all-time low for the Up-and-Comers as they couldn't put together a single win during the round robin, but it was time to put that behind them going into the elimination rounds. The locker room going into the game was quiet and tense as everyone geared up in time for opening puck drop. Smith would get the start this game and a slow start it would be, allowing 2 goals in the first 10 shots. Smith was clearly frustrated at this point, as he almost got into a fight towards the end of the period with Chicago teammate Gunnar Soderberg (who by the way was pushed onto him by Kev Kevens). Things started looking up a little bit in the second period as Jasper Maximov would score a quick one early in the period with a rocket from the blue line, and shortly after Zdenko Beranek would tie it up off a nice feed from William Salming. The team was feeling pretty good going into the 3rd after a rousing speech from captain Maximov, but doubt quickly crept in when Smith allowed the first shot of the period to go in. Time passed, and just as it was looking more and more like that would be it for the young guns, Beranek sprung off on a breakaway! He gets in close, brings the puck almost to his feet, and at the very last second slides it over to the opposite side of the crease and tucks it in behind Carpet. That would be it for the 3rd period, but the team was completely fired up going into overtime, completely dominated that period and Kevens ended up with the game-winning goal, tipping a shot from Teylora Petrov.

As the youngest and most inexperienced team in the league, the Up-and-Comers were excited at the prospect of facing some of their childhood idols in the Hall-of-Famers. Still though, from a hockey standpoint they were a little relieved to hear that they had been upset by the Superstars. The mood going into the room was positive, as everyone knew that since they made it this far they could absolutely beat just one more team. They weren't complacent by any means, they were getting ready for a tough game, but they were feeling good nonetheless. Tyler Ward would be getting the start as by far the better option on the team, and the right choice it was. First period passed, no goals against on 15 shots; he even robbed the legendary Ryuuji Minamino on a wide open net. On the other hand, Beranek, Maximov, and Petrov were all able to pot one each for the young guns. Second period starts, and not even a minute in Ward makes the save of the tournament on a 2-0 breakaway for the Superstars. He drops the puck to Maximov, who hesitates for a second as two Superstar forwards start putting on the pressure, then sends a saucer pass right to the tape of Beranek who had been waiting at the opposing blue line. He goes in alone and tucks it in on Doyle for his second of the game. After this goal, though, the Young Guns bench looks puzzled as Ward skates over to the bench and goes down the tunnel. The coach tells Smith to start stretching, in case, and it's a good thing since it turned out that Ward tore several muscles in his groin from that save and wouldn't be returning to the game. As Smith goes into the game a little cold he lets in a soft goal about halfway through the second, then a tough one goes in over his glove hand. Still, the score is 4-2 going into the 3rd and the Young Guns are feeling alright. The 3rd period is a full on goalie battle, as both netminders turn away 10 shots each in the first 15 minutes. With two and a half minutes left in the 3rd, the Superstars get set up in the Young Guns zone, and pull their goalie for the extra attacker. They cycle it around the zone for about a minute before Theo Morgan finds Minamino in the slot, who snaps the one timer into the back of the net to get within one. With one minute left, the Superstars win the final faceoff of the game and get it into their attacking zone, setting up once again. They cycle for awhile and fire a few low shots looking for rebounds. With two seconds left on the clock one finds Minamino and as everyone scrambles for the puck, he snipes it top shelf. But at the last possible second, Smith flashes the glove to catch the puck right on the goal line. The clock winds down to 0, and as it does, the Young Guns bench erupts as they have pulled off the greatest upset and won the Cup.

I loved this PTs connect to form a full story thing, along with the option to do something else if someone didn't want to do this over a full season or missed one. Would love to see more like it in the future.

RE: S62 PT#6: Wrap-up - Asked Madden - 12-15-2021

The first line for the up and coming squad rolled up to the rink looking fly as hell. Holy sheeeeit did this team look fucking good.
In goal - Jon St. Ark - Stalwart for the Specters he's a real up and comer.
On defense - Finn Von Murphenstein & Ole Olson. This partnership is absolutely disgusting - von Murphenstein brings the hits the blocks the strength and the smouldering. Olson brings the speed the control the assists and the goals. Absolutely phenomenal partnership.
Wingers - Nikolaj Boyle & Mew Two. 2 big names from S58. Boyle brings that Latvian flair - he's extremely proficient at making coffees for the team, mines as black as night. Mew Two brings almost god like power to the team shredding players left right and centre with his patented psybeam.
Finally at centre we have the one the only Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Austrian centre of the future. Absolute legend, he'll be knocking in goals for fun this season
Friedensreich Hundertwasser looked up at the defender matched up against him and gulped. It was a terrifying prospect, coming up against such a mountain of a man as Lyle Odelein iii.
Hundertwasser and Odelein had a fantastic battle throughojmut the game, built on huge hits, mutual respect and a love of the game. Odelein helped the grizzled vets get off to a flying start in the rournament seeing away Friedensreich Hundertwasser and his team 7 points to 4 (though three of those goals were assisted by Hundertwasser). The young guns huddled up after the game and needed to shut their mouths, they were still agape from the awe of playing a team full of legends including esa parmbourg and Theo Morgan. Hundertwasser lead the team in points with ole Olson leading them across all defensive Stats. Onto the next game now and the young guns are looking onwards and upwards, ready for a fight.
Coming off the ice and sitting on the changing room bench was an eye opening experience for Friedensreich Hundertwasser and the rest of the up and comers. They'd got to take on their idols, the men they'd all looked up to and wanted to replicate when they first joined the SHL.
They'd thought team Hall of fame would have lost a step, that they would be past it, that they would have regressed so much that it would be an easy game. This was not to be, the youngsters under sold their opponents and due to this got their asses handed to them on a plate. After Olson banged in goal after the 2 minute the team thought it would be a walkover. Instead they would be on the end of a ten goal onslaught.
The team should hopefully use this as a wake up call. Never underestimate your opponents, especially if they are filled with legends of the game. Going forward they won't take their foot off the gas.
Our team went down the study study study process ahead of their second game against the grizzled vets. We saw how they lined up and adjusted our lines to attack their weaknesses and defend their strengths.
After they beat us initially they came into the game very big headed. They came out thinking they would skate rings around us. Instead we fucked them up big time, bringing the thunder and lightning and lighting them up like a 4th of July firework.

To celebrate the team went out for steaks. As per usual Friedensreich Hundertwasser went for a bog standard rump steak cooked medium rare with a gorgeous garlic butter.
Ole Olson ordered the tomohawk for 5 for himself and wolfed it down with room for sides.
Finn Von Murphenstein ordered the Wagyu top of the range marbled steak and lorded it over everyone.
Nikolaj Boyle ordered a well done fillet steak and smothered it in tomato sauce.

RE: S62 PT#6: Wrap-up - taterswc - 12-15-2021

I wanna start by saying i loved the PTs this season. crafting this story was a blast and i hope for future seasons with a story driven theme.
Game On
Makrus is on the Up-and-Comers team for sure. About to hit the 1k tpe mark he will be a force in the league in a few season. While Makrus would prefer the team name Legends of Tomorrow he will settle for being and Up-and-Comer. Makrus centering this squad mean he needs 2 wings, 2 defensemen and a goalie. This isn’t even a hard choice. First defensemen will be Sven Svechnikov @steveoiscool . Sven is hot off wining the 4 star cup and while having a few quiet seasons in the J’s he was always a presence on the ice. Sven will be a solid enabler on defense. Second defensive pick is the legend himself Pasta the Turtle @visceralpotamus . Pasta will shut down the power play and likely the shins of any offensive player foolish enough to try and score on us. Now that defense is set lets get some points on the board. My first wing teammate will be Lev Lebedev @Lorec . Lev has been a high scorer since he joined the league and he isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Also hot off a 4 star cup win Lev has a bright future in the league. Prepare for pucks in nets. Opposite Lev will be Slavakov Vladimirashenko @Minnesotafine . Slavakov was captaining the Newfoundland Berserkers during their S60 cup win. Slavakov can bring that leadership to this squad giving them the tactics and push to thrive. Also something about feet picks. Idk dudes weird. Now you might be thinking I just picked all my friends to play hockey with and im here to tell you that yes that is exactly what I did.

Hit the Ice
Makrus knew this game wouldn't be easy. The grizzled vets are sure to put of a fight. This team is well versed in the league and know a thing or two about hockey. If we want to win we will have to use every weapon at our disposal. To start we will research drama on the vets. Anyone who has been in the sim league for a while is bound to have some drama. Said something they regret or got punished for something. We are pulling that out right away to distract them. This is as much a mental game as it is a physical one. Speaking of physical we have the king of getting physical in pasta the turtle. He is going to mess up some shins with those powerful hits. Now that we got them hurting physically and mentally we will rely on our youthful vigor to overtake them. Our forward core will skate circles around the old-timers. Meanwhile sven will probably get a misconduct because you can't keep a goon man down.

Hold this L
After taking down the grizzled vets its time to show our stuff against the Hall of famers. The game started out bad and only got worse. Makrus couldn’t win a faceoff all game. Lev and Slavakov couldn’t get open to make a shot all game. Pasta tried hitting a hall of famer, but their shins just wouldn’t break. Even Sven’s misconduct didn’t get called because the refs felt bad for us. The team took the loss hard and we needed to come together after such a hard beating. We decided to do a team building exorcise. Everyone had some ideas. Slavakov suggested we all get pedicures, Lev and Sven suggested we move to the British isles and become British to play for their IIHF team, Pasta suggested a nice relaxing day sunbathing on a log in a pond, but because its my story they went with Makrus’s idea, Pizza party and watching hockey movies. After some pizza and beer everyone felt better about the loss. Turns out everyone really liked the movie Goon, they just didn’t know it yet. After a nice refresh the team is back together and ready to face our next obstacle.

Gearing Up
After a hard loss to the Hall of Famers, the up and comers were ready to prove they still had it in them to win. Up against the grizzled vets again the up and comers didn’t expect them to go down easy. That was until the announcement that regression was changing. The grizzled vets were clearly distracted coming into the game. Many of them were already planning their retirement parties before the game even started. The team felt strong after this game. Lev and Slavakov both got hat tricks despite being down a man for most of the game. Sven got a misconduct right away for sportsmen like conduct. He was trying his best to instigate the grizzled vets by talking about how good it feels to not regress. Pasta almost got a misconduct as well, but they decided just to give him a diving penalty. Turns out grizzled vets shins break significantly easier than he expected. Makrus had a 100% faceoff win rate by just saying the word regression before each faceoff. It felt good to get a commanding win in the knockouts and the up and comers are hyped up and ready to go for the next big game.

Champions???
Its all come down to this. Facing the superstars. The team meets up the night before in Makrus’s condo to prepare for what will surely be the team getting totally blasted. While looking for some beer Sven found a bottle of orange Fanta in Makrus’s refrigerator. He took a sip and realized it was flat. So naturally he had to tell everyone how bad the flat soda tasted. And like a team they all tried a sip of the flat soda before it was poured down the drain. Makrus didn’t remember how he got an old bottle of orange Fanta with the label scratched off but it doesn’t really matter now.

Come game day the team hits the ice. To everyone’s surprise the first period goes great. The team is absolutely on fire leading the superstars 10-0. The second period was strange. The team felt like their energy was wearing off. Things went from always going right to always going wrong and by the time the second period was over the superstars lead 15-10. In the locker room the team is down. Everyone was trying to figure out why the magic was gone. That’s when Makrus remembered where the Fanta came from. It was a magic potion from that mysterious pill dealer. It was supposed to make you a hall of fame level player. But since it was flat by now it must have just made the team good for a little while. Thinking quickly Makrus bought a bottle of orange Fanta, scratched the label off, and shook the bottle up. Once it was good and flat he brought it into the locker room. He told the team about the magic Fanta and that he had a second bottle. The team drank the warm flat Fanta and could feel the magic. The third period was ours. Hitting the ice the team was doing great again. With just 3 min left in the period the score was tied 15-15. The team drank some more Fanta but it didn’t feel as good this time. They were still tired. Makrus confessed the Fanta was just Fanta and the team had the magic in them all along. Its not about wining but the friends we made along the way. To which the team assured him it was about winning. Back to the ice the Superstars are on the attack with less than a minute to play. Pasta the Turtle sees his change and slams an superstar into the wall. Using his turtle spin he sends the puck to Sven Svechnikov. Sven drives the puck passes to Makrus. Makrus moves to the corner passing to Slavakov. Slavakov takes it to the goal and back passes to Lev in the crease. Lev rockets the puck into the goal for the win. And just like that its all over. Everyone is stunned. The up and comers really did have it in them all along.

Prompt 2 - Written Task: Write 100 words about anything SHL related. Venting, talking about your season, talking about site features you're excited/not excited about, fun times in LRs, whatever you want.

This season went better for the Maine Timber. We finally got to the playoffs again, We got rid of Anaheim in round 1, 4-2 in the series, but then we faced our arch nemesis, the Newfoundland Berserkers and got swept, 0-4. While i feel they have a better team overall, so it would have been really hard to beat them 4 times, i also feel that we could have got at least 1 win and were unlucky not to.
So, season over, just trying to get all my tasks and updates done to see if i can get a shot with the Hamilton Steelhawks in the SHL next season.

Prompt #2

The duel prompt this season has been a great introduction into the league, epically with the generation of the stories throughout the season by some users. I must admit I didn't release that this was the case until I read this Prompt #1. Had I realized earlier that this was the plan all along I think I would have made a total effort to do all the prompt #1 and create my story over the season. Certainly I will be taking part in this, on the assumption that it is carried over for the next season.

I would like to use this a little thank you to all the members of the PT team, moderator, grader etc. Each of you gives up a lot of your time each week to check, and more amazingly read each and every prompt. So thank you to each and every one of you. Your time and effort really does add to this wonderful league.

prompt 2

Well.. If I need to write anything about SHL then I'm very greatful to my teammates and coaching staff. This is a huge story and memories for me in this league. I would not change anything I did here. This season was hard and great in same time. In start I was struggling with decision about my career, where to play and all of that. I decided to stay in Seattle and that was my best choise. Next season starts my reggresion and I don't know how long I will play with this player but I will not leave this site. There is gonna be a new rising star from Latvia in league after Darzins. I'm thankful all members that know me and yeah. Christmas is coming and this is beautiful time to say thanks for everyone here. Cheers!

RE: S62 PT#6: Wrap-up - Drokeep - 12-15-2021

Two things I want to touch up on this PT. first, it’s that I had such an amazing journey in the Js and I am so glad I was able to play for the Colorado Raptors. Unfortunately we weren’t able to raise the cup, but I made great teammates and friends (Plus we did make conference finals so I’ll take it!). Lastly, it is not a feature that is up and running yet, but the idea of card packs sounds absolutely amazing and I would love to see that implemented soon. I’d be broke with how many packs I would be buying. Hopefully this can come into fruition soon!
