I don’t really get that logic though.
It’s his team now, he should be able to brand his team how he decides (if allowed which obviously it was.)

I care about team names and branding, I live my hockey fantasy threw the site and my player. Call me a purest, but I love the game, literally love it. And it bothers me to see, what I feel is spoof team being added. Into a league where so many people have put so much effort, time and even money in some cases. Have a rainbow coloured gay joke be inducted into it.
Do I honestly believe my opinion will change the rebrand? Fuck no,
But I want it known that I think the current rebrand is an insult to every GM and member who shares a similar feeling about it. Some like it, others dont.
I asked my wife ( who could give a shit about the SHL ) what she thought about the re brand. She replied with " is that for the gay site members? ".
Neither of us are homophobes even slightly, but it does go to give you an outsiders opinion looking into the league.

I mean at least San Francisco Pride makes sense even if you wanted to take the gay way, people around seem to think being gay is a negative thing. However knowing that wasn’t the case in this. How does a landlocked city make sense for a team called Admirals. Ackbar thing was cool as a joke like when I put it on a sig for Wally when I did a custom mask sig. But for the primary logo of a hockey league doesn’t make sense and if we want originality using a defunct AHL teams logo doesn’t really work. Were the colors cool and unique for the league sure? But black and yellow never made me think of an Admiral.

Like I said before, to me it's not one thing that makes it bad to me. It's the combination of City, name, logo, Panthers rip off and colour choice.
I wasn't the biggest supporter of Portland when they announced it. But it became a likeable stapple in our make believe league.

Whether you like the name or not, isn't it more interesting and a better potential source for articles, potential rivalries and puns than another generic Penguins/Falcons/Scorpions sorta name? It's still fitting for a sports team and has been used in real life and it also has a connection to the city itself. I certainly don't see it as a joke, the logo and jerseys on the other hand are a different story...
