Yeah, prospects need to stop getting compared to HoFers so often. Werenski reminds me of Jack Johnson, though. Americans who played at Michigan, solid 2 way games, not huge but really thick bodies.

- Dion - 05-28-2015

Dallas selects Timo Meier

Eichel, Hanifin, and Werenski should be an excellent group of adds to the US team. The D corps could realistically be:
Suter-Shattenkirk
McDonagh-Faulk
Werenski-Hanifin
Byfuglien

Not as good as Canada's but definitely solid. The forwards could be:

Parise-Stepan-Kane
Pacioretty-Backes-Ryan
Pavelski-Kesler-Oshie
JvR-Eichel-Kessel
Stastny
But Canada could easily roll out:
Stamkos-Crosby-Giroux
Benn-Seguin-Nash
Tavares-Getzlaf-Perry
McDavid-Bergeron-Carter
MacKinnon

Keith-Subban
Bouwmeester-Pietrangelo
Giordano-Doughty
Barrie

The only plus would be that their D corps would be old by the time the next Olympics rolls around

If Werenski turns out to be Jack Johnson, then he will be severely missing his ceiling

i LOVE Werenski…i have a soft spot for American NCAA players, but i don't see Brian Leetch tbh
that is asking for a lot.
I do think he will be a really solid two-way defenseman tho.
love the pick, but I feel like everyone tries to compare spects to all-time greats wayyyyyy too often.

if Werenski is the next Brian Leetch, id be ectastic, but that is hiiiiiiigh hopes
For the record I didn't mean he will be the next Brian Leetch, I'm just saying I think he could be that type of player in the future. I could never compare someone like that and mean he's gonna be exactly that. I just mean that type of style of personality Leetch had. The leadership, the mentality, the knowledge that Leetch brought.

Would you mind doubling up for Tampa Bay now that Maxy had to bow out due to an impending suspension?

I don't really know what they need but sure I'll take em over.

I'll take over Nashville seeing as they pick next that doesn't have a team

ok thats fair.
i just feel like i see so many prospects or draftees get compared to all-time greats way too often.
you didn't exactly say that…you just said you could see him be Leetch-like, so i didn't mean to jump on you specifically, but i feel like it happens way too often.

like McDavid could be the next Crosby sure…Eichel could be the next Getzlaf…Hanifin could be the next Leetch.
whoever you want to compare them to.

but those are top guys…guys like Werenski, Crouse, etc…they're top 10 picks who could turn out to be really good, but don't deserve to be compared to legit NHLer yet imo

I think it started as a practice to give the fans something to get excited about but now it's just gotten way out of hand

Eichel will be the 1C. If he isn't then he'll be a disappointment. Matthews should probably be on the team too, likely over Backes or Kesler.

by next Olympics he'll be like 21…if he isn't top line C by then, he won't be a disappointment Smile)

he definitely could be tho

also you're ready to put Matthews over Backes or Kesler in 3 years?
seriously?

you're basically what I'm talking about

That's what I was thinking. Plus it'll be his first go of things. I think they let the old guns handle the heavy lifting and let Eich get used to it, even though he's used to international play by now but it's the Olympics. Matthews could very well be there too but in the same role as Eichel. He could get a boost by playing a year in Europe as it is rumored that he is doing
