A. Well I pick Edmonton Blizzard as my favorite for the final. I like the style of hockey, that the guys is showing. I think it will be interesting rivalry. It'll be exciting, spectacular and attacking hockeyHow things will actually be, we will find out very soon. Good luck to both finalists !

B. I think, that Blizzards youngsters will win their first final in career. Experience for Forge, of course, will be helpful. But if Blizzard hockey players don't fail from pressure, they'll make it. And yet, it is very interesting what will be stronger. Experience or youth. Time will put everything in its place. I think youth.

a. Philly has impressed me the most. As an expansion team they have been pretty good since the start of their franchise and have now arrived in the Challenge Cup Finals again for the second time in their history and they did that pretty quick. Hats of to them it is a big accomplishment and huge step creating history.
d. I think Edmonton wins the Challenge Cup. I know Philly has all the veterans and experienced players, but Edmonton is hungry and has a lot of talent on their young roster. They have quite the drought and they want to overcome that by winning the cup and I think they will have a few more good attempts after this.

Part of me wished Edmonton Blizzard would stay bad forever. As a former Calgary Dragon, you just want it to be like that. But Calgary has been a while in the past and the organisation has changed a lot over this time period. I long to the old Calgary Dragons and their rivalry with Edmonton Blizzard. But in all honestly HFFO has made a nice turn around, while Calgary spiralled downwards. There were a few moments in time I could have been part of this team, image how good they would have been then? Though it looks like HFFO did not need me afterall and he has build a really great team that is clicking really well. It takes a lot of bad years before it gets better again and that is what happened with HFFO and his team and here they are. Part of me wished I could have been a part of it, been a while since I was in the final.

a. Two new finalists mark the end of a dynasty in the west and the return of an old heavyweight in the east. Pick either of our finalists, and tell me what about them impresses you the most!
b. The Forge have won a cup with this core, while the Blizzard are sniffing this air for the first time in a while. Who would you rather be - the veteran team that's been here and won it before, or the hungry youngsters taking their first shot at glory?
c. The Blizzard upended a long-time nemesis in the Aurora to get here, while the Forge avenged several previous losses to the Wolfpack as well. Who had the more impressive victory to punch their ticket to the cup final, and why?
d. If it ain't broke don't fix it: Who you got? Who wins? Why?

a. Obviously I'm gonna have to pick my own team here, the Edmonton Blizzard. The team spirit in this group is simply amazing, everybody is supporting each other and there for their teammates when they need them, whil still being a team that expects the best out of their people. I couldn't wish for a better team to play on and challenge for the cup with.
b. I think the answer here is rather obvious, at least to me. Being the young team that is hungry for their first cup is simply so much more exciting than having done it all before. Making it all the way to the finals for the first time and winning your first Championship is such an amazing feeling that you will never forget and nobody will be able to take away from you!
c. I think the Forges road to the finals was actually more impressive. Yes I know that we in Edmonton had a great team and overcame our nemsis, the Winnipeg Aurora, along the way, but the Forge had arguably the even bigger obstacle this time around in the Wolfpack, the team that dominated the individual scoring tables as well as the Standings last season.
d. Blizzard in 7, obviously! For real though, going into this serious I really wasn't sure who the favorite would be. Both teams were very evenly matched throughout the season, both teams had star players as well as good depth and great goaltending. You couldn't have hoped for a more wide open series imho so it was no surprise that it went all the way to not just game 7 but the final period of that game as well before the championship-deciding goal was scored.

Quote:4. Written, 3 TPE, Winter is Coming (150 words min.)
Unlike their rivals, who have literally never been bad, the Blizzard were deep in the doldrums not too many seasons ago. Now that they've reached the mountaintop, how did they pull off such a strong rebuild? What can other teams currently facing hard times learn from their success?

You have to give a ton of credit to the Blizzards managing group because there road towards becoming a contender again was so well planned and methodically executed without being suffocating or forcing anything on the teams players that they aren't comfortable with. The team had a great culture of accountability and support for each other, which lead to great friendships and an awesome atmosphere in the LR while also pushing each other to be the best versions of themselves night in and night out.

When it comes to a rebuild, I think there are basically two versions of this in the SHL these days. The first one is the hail mary, the teams who blow it up and go into a rebuild because they have no other choice and where it's a wide open question whether it will work out or not. And then there is the second group of teams, the one that when the rebuild is starting, there isn't really a doubt in anyones mind that you will see them back near the top a few seasons down the road. I would put Edmonton into that second group, they loaded their time up with promising young talent early on, gave those players all the time they needed to develop while bringing in outside help when needed. And I will give myself a little credit here as well, as I think going out and adding a player such as myself in free agency was that one grand move and signal the team needed to then switch from rebuilding mode into contender mode, so the GMs timed that perfectly as well, even if it took a few more seasons after that.

Looks like [TEAM] won Season 73! Who won and why? What could the other team have done differently to change the result? What was your favorite part of the series?

I foresaw that if Edmonton Blizzard faced Philadelphia Forge, they'd be the winners. I didn't have them in my bracket predictions because I believed Winnipeg Aurora would beat the Blizzard in the semi's, but the way I predict winners via head-to-head records then Edmonton had a clear advantage over Philadelphia. The Blizzard had a 4 win 0 loss record against the Forge, which held up in the finals with the Blizzard getting the win. I attribute Edmonton's win with overcoming a slim chance in making it past the semi finals to then have a very favorable finals matchup. Also, they had pick 69 in S71.

How do you think the IIHF federation you play for will do this season? Will you be better than last seasons? Why or why not?
So I'm still currently in the WJC, and I've just been selected to play for Finland for the third time. It's quite exciting to be selected to a national team, even if the results haven't been there in the past. Finland was bounced early from the WJC last season, and there seems to be a new GM in charge this go-around since there's pressure from the top that there needs to be better results. In S72, the Fins never even made the playoffs, but the team made the playoffs in S71. S73 will certainly be a season where all of us hope to bounce back strong and make a significant playoff run. In terms of personal performance, there's definitely room for improvement. In S71, Cheeks Klapanen managed just 2 points in 12 games, a very disappointing mark. However, he was able to improve significantly in S72, scoring 3 goals and recording 6 assists for 9 total points. However, he saw his +/- rating drop from 5 to 1, showing that defensively, the effort and performance was lacking. This season after a strong performance with Anchorage in the SMJHL where the Armada were considered a top team, expectations will be high for Cheeks where he'll look to lead the defense unit.

Do you have any IIHF teammates that play your own SHL team? Do you feel your chemsitry from the SHL carries over to the IIHF? Does your GM play
you together, or not? Should they?
So I don't know about SHL teammates since I've yet to report for training camp to meet my fellow teammates and other prospects, but I do have one teammate from the SMJHL also joining me in Finland, and that is Ubba Lodbrok, wearingabear. While he's a forward and I'm a defenseman, we still have good chemistry from playing together in Anchorage. Lodbrok had 67 points in 66 games with a whopping 39 goals to lead Anchorage in goal scoring. Cheeks had 52 points, with 21 goals which is very strong for a defenseman. Funnily enough, Cheeks had 13 goals on the powerplay, while Lodbrok had just 1 goal. However he had an insane 8 goals on the penalty kill, which will force opponents to play cautiously in the WJC when he's on the ice to kill penalties. Someone that dangerous on the PK just can't be underestimated. Chemistry wise I think some of it will carry over for sure. When you share a team, you get to know all the guys on the team, not just the ones at your position. I think it can carry over into the WJC and we'll definitely try to make the most of our chances when we're on the ice together.

How do you think the IIHF federation you play for will do this season? Will you be better than last seasons? Why or why not?

The Independent Russian Hockey Federation is entering yet another IIHF tournament where they are better and more excited than they were since hockeyfan took over a few seasons ago. There are a lot of great young players coming through the pipeline which are complimented by the grizzled veterans who have been through it all. It will be hard not to improve upon last tournaments ugly performance, but the defense corps is vastly improved and the bottom 6 forwards look hungry to help the goal scorers play an overall better game. The goaltenders are unchanged, but they were never the problem. This will be a hard team to score against, and Russia is bult for 1-0 and 2-1 games, they just have to make sure they are on the right side of it. Russia will be one of the best teams in a few seasons, but for this tournament, the goal is playoffs. Who knows what will happen in winner take all games, they just have to get there. (170)

d. If it ain't broke don't fix it: Who you got? Who wins? Why?

c. I would say that any team who could take out the big bad New England Wolfpack would have had the tougher task to get to the finals. The Toronto North Stars did win the first game of the playoffs against the Wolfpack only for them to wake up and go on a rampage through the rest of the playoffs, but the cool and calm Forge were able to sneak past them, and deservedly so. Tough matchup for any team.

d. I would say that the Edmonton Blizzard win, and not just because it's already happened and I picked them to win in the playoff predictions. They have it all, solid goaltending, a forward group who score timely goals, and a shutdown defense corps who are not afraid to chip in with the important offensive contribution. They are a scary team now and in the future.

+8 TPE unless Edmonton Comets don't count.

a. What impresses me the most about the Philadelphia Forge is how they've managed to stay a tight knit group over the seasons even after bringing in some new faces to the locker room. They've developed a nice core up and down the lineup and have been able to be a force in the league for the last few seasons. (59 words)
b. I would have to say that I would rather be the veteran team who has been there and won it before because that is the team that I am on. I don't know how it is on the Blizzard so I can't really speak to that but I wouldn't trade being on the Forge for anything even if we did come up short in game seven of this series. (69 words)
