Option 1:

As Louis Belanger was coming back to his hotel room, he found, once again, Oliver Cornwall sitting about a feet from the television. Oliver was playing Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, but to Louis surprise, Oliver was playing it without a horse. That's when it hit Louis the reason why it was taking him so long to finish the game. Not only was he not using the horse, but no sprinting either. Louis had @HillsHaveHats sit down so they could have a chat about how this poor performance in the game was a reflection of his on ice performance. ''Have you not seen that @luke never pings you when he shares the scores in the locker room?'it's because you suck on the ice, you are too slow!'' said Louis. Starting now, no more sucking at video games or on the ice, I have bigger expectations for you. From that day on, Oliver wasn't the worst player in the league, he was now the 2nd worse.

Written Prompt 2

Bringing more RPG elements into the Simulated Hockey League (SHL) is a great idea and could add depth, strategy, and personalization for users. Here’s a breakdown of compelling RPG mechanics that could translate well into the SHL experience:

Feats or Perks like in Fallout.
How to Implement: Players could pick from a list of perks every few seasons or upon reaching a milestone. "Clutch Performer" could cost ratings in the 3rd period or OT. "Locker Room Leader" could improve team morale or stats when this player is present. "Power Play Specialist" would make players more effective in man-advantage situations. The benefit? Adding long-term planning and meta-strategy to player builds and team composition.

Madness or Morale System, like in Darkest Dungeon
How to Implement: Players can build up stress caused by low team morale and frequent losses, or gain confidence from long winning streaks or scoring key goals. High stress could lead to decreased performance or erratic play; high confidence boosts performance but could lead to overconfidence debuff if not managed. The benefit? It would add drama and unpredictability and make narrative-driven roleplay more immersive.

Option 2:

My immediate thought is perks and specific move sets per player. Think about games like Pokemon, Cassette Beasts, etc, and the pools of moves your player could learn. Spending your TPE or money on different skills could be really interesting. Imagine having players battle other players in a turn-based system where they choose from their moves and try to beat the other player.

It would be really interesting to have your SHL player level up based on how they play during games, with some form of experience points. You could have different kinds of evolutions too, going from a basic winger to a power forward based on the way your player has been playing. Maybe certain pucks or wins at home vs. wins away grant different evolution paths too, or mix up your player’s move set even further. Now, I understand something like this would be completely absurd for SHL, but it’s the thought that counts!

2.

Ace Lightning loves playing the Sims, and he thinks there is a lot of crossover between the SHL and the sims that could be interesting.

For example, make every player go to college and learn a specialty. Whether that’s chef, actor, scientist or astronaut, every SHL player needs a second job that they must go to to earn money. Every team will also need a designated city where every player will live in their own home, or two players per household to save space. The money earned from those jobs can be used to pay for new furnishings or windows for the home.

Also, you have to have at least one positive relationship outside of the team. That could be a neighbour or someone you meet on the street, but you must get your levels up in a positive way by talking and getting to know people.

I think this is a great time to go play the sims.

The next step forward in creative builds in the SHL will be the implementation of Special Abilities, a trait-like system that already exists in the FHM game engine but goes unused in the SHL. Special Abilities are traits available to players that augment their game in a specific way, sometimes good and sometimes bad. Some beneficial traits like "Behind the Net" or "Great Deke" give attribute boosts in specific situations which could allow players to be used for key roles as playmakers or goal scorers, or make certain tactics more effective. These traits could be available to purchase with SHL money or TPE depending on how Head Office sees fit, and give more options to create unique players beyond the existing TPE scale. Hopefully this will help break the existing meta and let players have unique styles of play instead of being forced into the same 3 builds that work well with global tactics.

Option 1:

On the last road trip we took, the coaches asked me to room with a young player on the team. The goal was to just show them the ropes with being away of home and try to settle them into good habits that they can carry throughout their career. I had no problem with that and actually enjoyed my time.

When we settled into the room, we got talking and I wanted to see what they do with their time away from the rink. Unsurprisingly, they took out their XBOX and said they're a big gamer. Video games are huge in this age group so I expected this to come up. After talking about the games they play, we just had a frank conversation about finding a healthy balance with their free time. While there's nothing wrong with loving video games, it's easy to have it suck up all of your time and attention. Being able to manage that is huge if you want to stay on top of your job as a professional hockey player. They seemed very receptive to it and we spent a few hours playing some of the games they packed. Overall, I really enjoyed mentoring the young bucks on the road.

Written Option 2: SHL has always had RPG elements, at least in form of player progression, but there could be room to add lot more. There are countless of RPGs out there with very different systems that are designed for varying styles of games which should mean that there would be multiple interesting things we could loan from these systems to mix things up. What would you bring over from one or multiple RPG games to SHL to make things more interesting? Skills, classes, madness, feats etc. How would they best be implemented to SHL? (If you aren’t familiar with any RPGs, what would you bring from any board- or videogames?

I have always been a fan of the Final Fantasy series ever since playing it as my first ever RPG in Final Fantasy 7. While we have a large number of the stats that are typical in Final Fantasy, one stat that isn't clearly defined is evasion. We have agility, which in most Final Fantasy games will effect the chance to evade, but where is the stat to allow your player to be deft on their feet and completely evade a defender? Even watching the NHL many of the superstars pull of amazing feats of agility or completely evade a charge into the boards only to see the checker crumple to the ground. It would be awesome to give my player the chance, however small it is, to have a guaranteed evasion with a bonus to continuing a play. Alternatively, if injuries ever exist in the SHL, I want Vitality. Higher vitality means less likely to be injured, but this would be a constantly degrading stat similar to the regression that already exists as a player gets older, but that max gradually decreases due to the bumps they've dealt with throughout their career.

Written Option 2:

Perhaps a cool RPG element could be unlocked for a season in which MILESTONES are achieved.  Adding any stamina or any other system could become way too complex and/or convoluted to the sim.  If you complete certain milestones, they could unlock a stat boost or a perk of some kind, or maybe to unlock adding a stat point or two that are locked by the portal... which could add some spicy effects to the sim.

The goals milestone could add (2 points to one skill or 1 point to two skills) to getting open, shot accuracy or shooting range (limit breaking the 12 cap for forwards) as well as two points (2 points to one skill or 1 point to two skills) to add to any of the locked Mental Ratings (determination, team player, leadership, temperament, professionalism).  I'll just type in increase ideas instead of re-typing all this lol.

Assists milestone - 2 points to Passing, Puckhandling and/or Offensive Read and the 2 points to same locked Mental Ratings.

Plus/Minus - 1 point to an Offensive Rating and 1 point to a Defensive Rating, 1 point to a Physical Rating and 1 point to a locked Mental Rating

Penalty Minutes - 1 point to a Defensive Rating, 1 point to a Physical Rating, 1 point to either Aggressiveness/Bravery and 1 point to a locked Mental Rating

Shots on Goal - 1 point to either Shot Accuracy or Shooting Range, 1 point to a Physical Rating and 2 points to locked Mental Ratings.

Hits - 1 point to Hitting/Checking, 1 point to Positioning/Defensive Read, 1 point to either Aggressiveness/Bravery and 1 point to a locked Mental Rating.

Fights - 1 point to Hitting, 1 points to Strength or Fighting, 1 point to either Aggressiveness/Bravery and 1 point to Temperament.

Faceoff % - 1 point to Faceoffs, 1 point to Positioning, 2 points to locked Mental Ratings.

Blocked Shots - 2 points to Defensive Ratings, 1 point to Team Player and 1 point to Professionalism.

Takeaways - 1 point to Stick Checking, 1 point to Shot Blocking, 1 point to Defensive Read and 1 point to Team Player.

So to sum up, 4 points per milestone but capped at something so not everyone gets easy 20s.  Since only 3 milestones can be claimed per season, the milestones claimed could be combined to make up for a deficiency of stats or to maximize stats for a different build idea every season.

Written Option 1:

Marineau loves playing video games, so when he heard a rumor going around the locker room that Grindle Waters-Johnson was up all night in the hotel room playing games on his console, Marineau stepped in and told management to put them as bunk buddies for the next road trip. When they heard Marineau would keep an eye on him, they loved that he stepped up to handle it. However, Marineau's master plan was to join Waters-Johnson so he could play games with him all night. Marineau wanted to keep this between them so no one would find out. Naturally, this ended up being bad for Marineau as he became addicted to the video games and ended up getting more and more tired throughout the road trips, showing up to the rink late. Eventually, management found out and reprimanded both players with fines and had to take away the consoles, as well as set a curfew for both players. Lesson learned, they will not being doing it in the future.

Viktor hasn't seen a younger player since season 74, so this is entirely new ground for him. Though, as someone who does everything in his power to avoid socializing and engaging outside of game-time, he's more than likely right there beside the kid playing on his phone and avoiding eye contact. I believe that Nostradamus might be the young gun right now? Since Viktor is the captain of a very depleted team, roster issues are kind of his problem whether he likes it or not. He's more of a lead by example kind of guy, so rather than confront Nostradamus or go to the management, it's more likely that Viktor would request that they stay roommates until further notice and get the young defenseman to join him for his daily regimen of absolutely no fun and all training. If Viktor still has time to relax, so will Nostradamus. It'll just be adjusted slightly to make sure the good habits stay long after Viktor has retured.

When it comes to players and their free time, everyone is different. I know that a lot of guys enjoy videogames, so there’s no issue with it. As a veteran in the league, I would approach the situation with caution and just keep it between me and him for now. There’s no need to get coaches or staff involved if it’s not impacting play. However, if it starts to and becomes problematic, then I would have to let them know that I would have to go to the coach, just so they’re aware of it.

In terms of touching their stuff, I would never. I hate when people touch my stuff, so moving stuff around or throwing things out is a definite no. I think young players have enough respect for the league and the veterans that speaking to them should be more than enough to get things sorted out. Going to things like moving things or throwing things will cause a lot of issues between us and that’s not good for the room and team chemistry/morale.

Written Option 1:

Elvar Gil-Galad always gets the goalie bunk when they are on road trips. His underling and tandem partner Adam Joy is always his room mate and the coaches think he will influence the youngster about how to prepare for their SHL games. Little do the coaches know that both Elvar and Adam are badly addicted to video games. Lately the two have discovered the old Super Nintendo system and have been obsessively playing the Nintendo Hockey game. Basic and before the days that teams from the SHL were actually incorporated into the modern games, Elvar likes to be the BOS team and Adam always chooses the NY team. They battle any chance they get but their love for the nintendo game does not distract from their training and in real life nothing is affected by their off ice pass time. For now anyway. Just for the record, in Nintendo world, Elvar has 634 wins to Adam's 426.
