- Jenny - 06-10-2018 i stand affirmative on the idea of paying GMs; they're essential to the site and deserve to be paid for the work they do. this should obviously be implemented by giving everyone backpay so i can be rich from my time with the knights. ty and good night. - QuantumCowboy - 06-10-2018 The GM's deserve to get paid, and it should be based on performance in the season and a bonus for making playoffs. - Winter is Coming - 06-10-2018 I've always viewed GM positions as one that shouldn't be paid, because it's one someone enjoys doing versus more of a chore like being an updater or something of that variety. I don't care largely either way, but that has always been my initial thoughts on the debate. - kckolbe - 06-10-2018 Quote:Originally posted by ml002@Jun 10 2018, 07:39 AM Good catch, fucking SOLID way to point it out. - ztevans - 06-10-2018 Quote:Originally posted by kckolbe@Jun 10 2018, 01:32 PM I honestly thought you meant KEVIN Hamilton's first playoff, which happens to be against the Hamilton Steelhawks. - Zombiewolf - 06-10-2018 -There's been a lot of chatter about IIHF lately, though not entirely for the best reasons. Do you think players should be allowed to bench themselves without having to transfer out? Additionally, do you think the transfer rules are good as they stand? If not, what would you like to see in place of the system currently present? Yeah I think players should be able to sit out of IIHF. It is there player they should be able to control things like this - kckolbe - 06-10-2018 Quote:Originally posted by ztevans@Jun 10 2018, 11:38 AM That is what I meant, but it was worded pretty foolishly and was deserving of mockery. - gaby - 06-10-2018 Ah, yes, everyone's favorite debate - whether we should pay GMs or not. Where do you stand on this, and if it's in the affirmative, how should this be carried out? I don't think SHL GMs should be paid but SMJHL GMs should be. In my opinion, SMJHL GMs are the most important people for this league as they are the ones helping or guiding the most new members. So yeah to make sure we get the best of the best to apply I'll give them something like 6M/season. The "it's a prestigious job no need to get paid" saying I agree with that for SHL GMs. - Beaver - 06-10-2018 -Ah, yes, everyone's favorite debate - whether we should pay GMs or not. Where do you stand on this, and if it's in the affirmative, how should this be carried out? Pay the damn GMs. They do a dickload of work, spending a lot of time on their team that they could be spending doing media, graphics, or a job on site and they should be compensated for that. -Playoffs! Obviously, not every matchup has been solidified yet (although they will be before this PT closes). That being said, which (potential) matchup are you most excited about? Who do you think will be the key players on each end, and who do you think can pull out the wins? The Eastern conference match ups are going to be really good. The teams were so close this season that I could see any of the 4 teams making the finals. - Beaver - 06-10-2018 Quote:Originally posted by ml002@Jun 10 2018, 09:39 AMlmao beautiful - nour - 06-10-2018 Quote:-Ah, yes, everyone's favorite debate - whether we should pay GMs or not. Where do you stand on this, and if it's in the affirmative, how should this be carried out? There really is no reason why we shouldn't be paying GMs in both leagues, and to an extension members of HO as well. The SHL has always been notoriously stingy on how it handles its money, and while that's fine to a certain extent, the fact that members who are working arguably the most important jobs on the site aren't being paid is just insane. GMs should have a standard pay rate amongst the league (maybe Head GMs make 1-2mil more or something), agreed upon by HO. Bonuses should be off the table, too easy to abuse, so just the standard fare for everyone makes the most sense. A lot of people argue that if GMs get paid people will hold onto GM jobs longer than they need to just to collect the pay, but I'm pretty sure HO can use their discretion when they see someone is collecting paychecks and not working, and to be fair you can truly say this about any job on the site. If its not a prevalent issue in those jobs, it shouldn't be for GMs. A big portion of this site is upheld and run by these GMs, they deserve a right to pay. - rieksts - 06-10-2018 Every GM should be paid an equal and flat rate of 2-3M for their work but then additional bonuses for their work should be paid out as well. Actually the salary could be a bit higher, especially considering the behind the scenes mentoring and tutoring process for the Smjhl GMs - formx - 06-10-2018 -There's been a lot of chatter about IIHF lately, though not entirely for the best reasons. Do you think players should be allowed to bench themselves without having to transfer out? Additionally, do you think the transfer rules are good as they stand? If not, what would you like to see in place of the system currently present? Based on personal experience I think players should be able to sit out of IIHF tournaments. Early on in my player's international career with Norway I had decided I wanted to retire from international play due to my player receiving 2-3 minutes a game on the 4th line despite being one of the most active players on the team. Additionally I had a 400 TPE inactive playing above me on the depth chart. So yes, I absolutely believe should be able to sit out of tournaments unless the team they belong to are short of actives. I believe there should be a permanent one time switch after making your international debut. A rule that is similar to the one in international football. (Albeit a bit different due to the rules only allowing you to switch if you have ancestry or citizenship to another nation, as well if you only previously represented your country in a friendly match and not in an international tournament.) I think if a one time permanent switch is introduced, new players should be able to switch nations prior to their 3rd international tournament. - White Cornerback - 06-10-2018 -Ah, yes, everyone's favorite debate - whether we should pay GMs or not. Do you think players should be allowed to bench themselves without having to transfer out? Additionally, do you think the transfer rules are good as they stand? If not, what would you like to see in place of the system currently present? -A lot of players have (re)created for this upcoming draft class, and it's slated to be a big one in both size and potential. Are there any players you'll be keeping an eye out for, out of the new crop? Early favorites for first overall? Give them a shoutout! -Playoffs! Obviously, not every matchup has been solidified yet (although they will be before this PT closes). That being said, which (potential) matchup are you most excited about? Who do you think will be the key players on each end, and who do you think can pull out the wins? C'mon. Why the fuck are we having this? You pay the people who help this site run. If you're helping the site run you shouldn't have to also write media or take an extra job. That's an incredibly regressive view of the site going forward. You pay HO and you pay your GM's. If your main argument against this is you don't want people chasing jobs jusft for cheques. Then you simply give HO permission to veto a hiring if they feel like he/she is not committed. I think you give players the right to bench or sit out. It's their international career choice, not anybody elses. I think you should have more leniency about transfers, ie depending on a players TPE bracket they should have 1st/2nd/3rd line guaranteed minutes and if they don't get them in their home nation they may apply for a transfer elsewhere. I don't know anybody in the upcoming draft. Buffalo>WKP always. Lavelle is Jesster GOAT. - karlssens - 06-10-2018 Ah, yes, everyone's favorite debate - whether we should pay GMs or not. Where do you stand on this, and if it's in the affirmative, how should this be carried out? I believe GM's should be paid. As a GM I enjoy the position and would certainly continue doing it for free, but out of principle we put just as much time in to this league as the next paid position and should receive compensation. Something in the neighborhood of $3-5 mil seems acceptable. Perhaps $5mil per team and the the gm/co-gm can divide it accordingly. Playoffs! Obviously, not every matchup has been solidified yet (although they will be before this PT closes). That being said, which (potential) matchup are you most excited about? Who do you think will be the key players on each end, and who do you think can pull out the wins? I'm going to go with my Blizzard. This is the 1st time we don't have to go up against the Jets in round 1 after back to back early exits. Curious to see how we fair in a best of 7 against a team not located in Winnipeg. Excited. |
