RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - Jason - 02-28-2025 Graphic Option 2: Create an image related to the upcoming SHL expansion. ![]() RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - Marshi - 02-28-2025 Written Option 1: Alright, what are things Shiny Rainbow really likes besides hockey and being the absolute fastest everywhere and in anything: Summer, sun, the beach, the ocean, warm weather, swimming, surfing. Guess the direction this is going in. It's literally in the Logo of the opponent where Shiny likes to go the most on a road trip: Let's go and play the San Diego Tidal more often! And if Shiny Rainbow get's some extra spare time on that roadtrip: Well you already know what shes doing. Spending her time at the beach and in the ocean surfing or just chilling in the warm sun. There is no other team in the SMJHL which could make this combination posible. In the SHL Los Angeles could get close but it's not directly a beach city. And being drafted by the Manhattan Rage, Shiny Rainbow still hopes the team is located at Manhattan Beach near LA and not in Manhattan in New York. And to add a little crossover to the other task. We may need an expansion team in Hawaii for Shiny Rainbow. That would become her favorite destiny for a roadtrip immideatly. RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - hockeymil - 02-28-2025 Option 1 It's fun when you are a professional athlete to traval accros North america and visit some fabulous cities. It's sure than now that I'm in the SHL, I don't play anymore in my home town of Québec, but we are playing in Montréal so it's close enough to have all my family around (with playing in the same team as my brother help too haha) and we can visit the city like we used to as kids. OTher than Montréal, I like to visit big cities like Manhattan, Los Angeles, Tampa Bay, Seattle and Toronto. So much to see, but we got limited time when we are playing so we need to make most of it. Texas is not a bad state either, Dallas is a big city and lots to do there so I can't complain. With the kind of money we get, we can pay to get what we want, but sometimes it's fun to just be there and enjoy it. RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - leafsftw1967 - 02-28-2025 Written Option 2: Expanding the SHL hockey league successfully requires more than just adding teams it will end up needing careful thought about location, branding, and cultural relevance. A great expansion franchise is not just about a catchy name as it should resonate with the city, its history, and the sport itself while also building up long term fan engagement. First a successful SHL expansion team needs to be in a location where hockey can thrive. This could mean entering an untapped market with strong potential for example like what the NHL did with the Vegas Golden Knights or reinforcing a region with an established hockey culture like what happened with the Minnesota Wild returning the NHL after the Minnesota North Stars left or with the Winnipeg Jets returning to the SHL. With this in mind I think the a SHL team that will be given an expansion opportunity should return to Las Vegas as they were there before the NHL brought Vegas there and would be a great opportunity. RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - hockeyfan - 02-28-2025 1. Ace Lightning has only played for two teams in his career, both in the East, but his favourite destination to play and the game that he always circles on his calendar is when he gets to go to Los Angeles. A big Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fan, Lightning is the first to hop in an Uber on his off day and head to the start of the big Housewives Tour, where a bus takes people all around the city, showing the houses of the housewives, as well as all their favourite restaurants and hang out spots. He’s done it 9 times now. Ace also likes gambling, and LA is very close to Las Vegas, where he takes a private helicopter to as soon as their game is over to spend 6 hours at the blackjack table. He’s not very good at it and rarely spends more than 20 dollars in a night, but he has fun. RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - TheOPSquid - 02-28-2025 option 2 A good expansion brand needs to have a couple things to make it viable in my opinion. The first thing it needs is a good location, it should not be completely unrealistic and still be from a place that could be viable for a hockey team, I would draw the line at teams outside of North America. I wouldn’t add a team in a different continent just because of realism. I know the sim isn't realistic, with renders and players being unrealistic, and travel time between say Anchorage and Carolina being insane, but having a team in an unrealistic area like Sydney, Australia for example really takes away the little realism we still have. Branding for a team should definitely relate to the area that the team is from, whether that is intertwined with the local area’s culture or history. Making an expansion team for Houston and naming it the Scuba Divers would not make much sense in my opinion. Unless Houston has some large Scuba Diving community that is hidden somewhere. RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - Hordle - 02-28-2025 ISFL PT Claim RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - Froste39 - 02-28-2025 Written Option 2: Creating a great expansion team should include two main points in my opinion: First: It needs to be visually and overall pleasing. This means it needs a great logo, a good kit and branding. Combine this with a name that you can remember easily, preferably not one of those throwaway, have them in every league ones. Second: a good connection to the place it is located at. If it somehow integrates into the culture and history over there, this makes it inherently more recognizable right away. For example a scottish team named Highlanders. You have to be careful though, not to go too far into the obvious and make the name too boring. In my opinion the Second point should always be were you are starting from, then creating a name that fits this, afterwards you design the visual stuff. With both of these points combined you'll be able to appeal to the history nerds, local fans as well as to those who don't know or care about a place's history and just want to see a good looking team. RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - xjoverax - 02-28-2025 Graphic Option 1: Create an image of your player enjoying the stay at home city of another team. ![]() RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - Kyamprac - 03-01-2025 Option 2: We've got pretty good representation of Canada in the league but I'm always down to see more, especially lately. Just go for a full maple syrup takeover. Throw in a Vancouver team maybe, don't think we have anyone in British Columbia yet. Could have a lot of fun with it. Or maybe it's time for the SHL to finally broaden its horizons and go somewhere outside of North America for once. Let's mix it up with a taste of Scandinavia, or maybe Germany. So many fun branding options there and it would feel kind of appropriate to see more international rep in the league with the 2026 Olympics coming up in real life. Whatever expansion GMs decide to do, please for the love of god don't AI generate your branding. They never come out looking quite right and there's so much graphics talent in this league (and on the internet generally), you can definitely do better. RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - kb.m - 03-01-2025 Written #1 There’s no better city for big money than Las Vegas, and despite a meager bank account of 10 million, William Marshal loves feeding the slot machines and placing prop bets. Traveling back to Vegas is by far Marshals favorite for a multitude of reasons. First and most obvious of all, the gambling and the partying. Second, coming to Vegas means the cruising Whalers are most likely getting another win against a gutted and struggling Battleborn team. The last part that makes coming to Vegas extra special is the chance to reunite with some of Marshals former Battleborn teammates for a night out on the town. Despite an average temperature of 80 during hockey season, Vegas has great ice facilities for training during extended stays. Marshal also enjoys playing roller hockey with Vegas fans at the local rinks when time and weather allows. When the team leaves Vegas, Marshal waits till the last possible minute to board in order to maximize his spins at the airport. RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - Noruoficeland - 03-01-2025 Written Option 1 A place Walbilly Koala would like to visit amidst the busy schedule of going to and from home and away hockey games would be New Orleans, home of the New Orleans Specters. Though he hasn’t competed against any specters yet, naturally, since he is still in the J, he is excited about it in the future. Going during Mardi Gras would be a dream come true, though unlikely to happen. He would be worried about falling beads. They’d hurt a lot more if they hit his head because they fall much farther to hit him than human-sized people. But excited, nonetheless. He’s heard tales of the boiled crawfish, and ever since he joined the Carolina Kraken, he has made it his mission to taste as many different kinds of seafood as he could. If he wanted to try crawfish for the first time, he could do it nowhere else but in New Orleans. (153 Words) RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - Brenadyr - 03-01-2025 Written option 2: Location is super important, both for people who know hockey and those like me who do not. The location needs to be of some importance or size, recognizable to the layman anyways in my opinion, as recognizability greatly helps a team's optics. The location should also have some connection to hockey, that way it is easy to build a fanbase where it starts, making further growth also easier. As for branding, it is important for the team to both sound cool and reference important aspects of the location. A great example of this is the Nevada Battleborn, to the layman it is just a cool sounding team name, but it also references Nevada's fight for independence which is very cool. Another one is the Chicago Syndicate, once again sounds very cool and references Chicago's history with, well the mob. Plenty of the other teams also do this, the Quebec City Citadelles is a fantastic name and logo combination that I would be doing a disservice not to mention, but I am not as versed in Quebec's history. RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - sliceruser - 03-01-2025 Written Option 1: Being a player in SHL and SMHJL requires a lot of hours in the plane as roadtrips take the teams all over the continent. Sometimes the visits are very short and you’ll be getting back to home right after the game but sometimes there is time for more. Which city is your player's favorite to visit, a place where they hope to be able to spend a day between travels to enjoy what the city has to offer? Is it home to a division rival that they get to visit often or maybe home of a team from the other conference that your player only gets to visit once a season? Why do they like that city and what do they do there when they have the opportunity? Throughout Alexandros career in the J and SHL he has only played for 2 teams in Chicago and Carolina and they have become a home for him so he always enjoys going back there. As far as cities he enjoys visiting, he would have to say Los Angeles and Tampa Bay for the weather and things to do in those areas are some of his favorites. Although born in Canada, Alexandros isn’t the biggest fan of the cold so in the winter months these 2 are places he finds hard to want to leave to go back north. There is one above those 4 for Alexandros even though if you asked him, it would be a city he hates. Secretly he loves his place of birth, Toronto. Even though he doesn’t get to go home often anymore, there is a special nostalgia when Chicago has a Toronto game in Toronto. They say home is where the heart is and despite it all Toronto is still somewhere he loves to be and visits his family every time he goes. -178 words RE: S81 PT #2: Place To Be - Revontulete - 03-01-2025 Written Option 2: Since we're looking at the SHL expansion, I'll focus on that. The team needs to be in a major city location. Think Manhattan, Seattle, Montreal, etc. So options would be Sacramento, Portland, another New York team since it's a massive city, Boston, etc. Then you need a name that's easy to remember, easy to brand, and fans can identify with. This means having a plural that can be turned into singular. "I am an Argonaut", or "I am a Patriote", or something similar instead of needing to say "I am a Rage" or "I am part of the Pride", etc. The most important part of the overall design is that you NEED a recognizable, memorable logo. One that can be understood up close and in the distance. In my opinion, teams that do that are the Rage, the Patriotes, the Citadelles (I'm biased), the Aurora, and a few more not coming to mind. It's so important to have all three to allow players and "fans" to tie themselves to as a brand. |
