Predicting the S50 SMJHL Playoffs...with Coin Flips - Gwdjohnson - 10-27-2019
It's that time of season again folks. The past two seasons I have predicted the SMJHL and SHL playoffs with one trusty quarter, and tonight I do it again, as we put the milestone 50th season of the SHL to chance, starting with the juniors.
I am continuing with the same format as always, which is that the higher seed wins a game when the coin comes up heads, and the lower seed wins a game on every tails. Leggo!
ROUND ONE:

win (4-1) ELIMINATE IN 5 GAMES Round One Summary:Just like with last season's coin flip playoffs, we see the underdogs take both round one matchups, as the tanking Raiders and Knights see themselves proceed past Vancouver and St. Louis respectively, and not even requiring 7 games to do so! A chaotic start to the playoffs, let's see how round 2 shapes up.

win (4-3) ELIMINATE IN 7 GAMES Round Two Summary: In round two, we see three of the four series result in wins for the underdogs, and we most notably see a reverse sweep of the top seeded Colorado by the bottom seed Halifax Raiders. Anchorage manage to meet expectations narrowly, as they took 7 games to squeeze past Kelowna, while underdogs Lions and Falcons managed to upset the fans of the Kraken and Outlaws. The semifinals will consist of the Armada going up against Halifax, while Detroit and Lethbridge will duke it out for the other finals spot.

win (4-3) ELIMINATE IN 7 GAMES Semifinals Summary: And the stage will be set with two teams that have never made the Coin Flip Four-Star Cup Finals getting their first berths, as the Anchorage Armada will be going up against the Lethbridge Lions. After going down 2-1, Anchorage stormed through 3 straight games to end the dream run the Raiders were on, while the Lions managed to just about avoid being reverse swept, as after blowing a 3-0 series lead, they cut the memery short by taking game 7 and moving on. And now, we see who will be crowned champion of this entirely meaningless competition based on luck alone!

THE ANCHORAGE ARMADA!!!!!! Finals Summary: And in this season we see a third unique winner, as the Anchorage Armada bring home the Coin Flip Four-Star home to Alaska, capping off a season where they performed extremely well to come 2nd place in the regular season. Last season the coin played mostly in the hands of the favourites, but this time we saw it be very spread out in general, although one of the favourites won the whole thing in the end.
Congratulations to @Acsolap and @artermis for the achievement, and I will see you all next season! All hail the mighty quarter!
