Period 1: The players on the ice and we are ready for the drop of the puck here in Vancouver! Jan Zacha wins the opening face-off versus Jakub Bruchevski and we are underway. The Whalers come out ready to seek revenge on the Scarecrows grabbing the first 3 shot of the game. St. Louis able to get a few shot blocks in but it's not long before 2nd line center Marcus Ohlsson is able to put the Whalers on the board with a wicked wrist shot from the high slot that beats Doyle. 1-0 Whalers. A few minutes later Gareth Crinnon takes a penalty and Vancouver is going to their first PP of the game. Vancouver isn't able to muster much of anything from the PP as they tally 2 shots without a real good scoring chance. James Ronlain with a good opportunity to tie the game up but his shot just misses the net.
Period 2: Period two is underway here at Pacific Coliseum. It's not long before top St. Louis defenseman Flash Gordon takes a high sticking penalty; the Whalers to their second PP opportunity. Bieksa a shot from the point and he scores! Vancouver takes a commanding 2-0 over St. Louis 37 seconds into the 2nd period! Huge PP goal from Bieksa, that's his 5th of the season! Later in the period Mega Tron gets 2 for roughing and Vancouver is headed to their 3rd PP this game. Fortunately for St. Louis, Vancouver is unable to convert and fall to 1-3 on the PP. Luc-Pierre Lespineau-Lebr takes yet another unneeded penalty and gives the Whalers another powerplay chance! St. Louis head coach is irate on the bench. St. Louis penalty kill does a great job limiting chances from the Whalers and manages to keep the score at 2-0 despite all the powerplay chances. 5 minutes remaining in the period and Stingray unloads a clapper from the blue line on the entry and it manages to squeak by Doyle giving Vancouver a 3-0 lead over St. Louis. You really hate to see that one go in, looks like Doyle may have been trying to read the long name of Stingray when that shot beat he just below the left pad. 2nd period comes to a close with Vancouver just dumping shots all over Doyle with 16 in the period.
Period 3: The puck drops to start period 3 and the home fans are loving it here in Pacific Coliseum. Vancouver comes out just as the left the ice in the 3rd, managing to get the first few shots of the game. Vancouver just looks like they want it more right now as they are all over the 'Crows. A few minutes into the period and Vancouver takes a 4-0 lead on a depth goal from Sureshot Dombrowski. That's his 2nd of the season. Mega Tron looking to stir up the Whalers a bit, finishing hard checks looking to tilt the ice for St. Louis. Sven Yxskaft goes to retaliate and gets hit with an interference minor penalty. St. Louis gets their first PP chance on the game. 16 seconds into the PP and it's Ruslan Zaporozhets breaking the ice for the Scarecrows and giving them their first goal of the game. St. Louis set up in an umbrella type PP formation and with a good screen in front Zaporozhets manages to find the back of the net giving St. Louis a sign of life. Tron keeps being the pesky bug that he is and is able to draw back to back penalties and gives St. Louis a 5-3 PP for a 1:53! Huge opportunity wasted as although St. Louis was able to get shots threw to Goodman, cannot cut the lead in half. While St. Louis manages to outshoot Vancouver 12-10 in the last frame it is not enough. Vancouver is able to get revenge on St. Louis and come out with a win. Final score of 4-3. Thank you all for tuning in, this is takethehorizon signing off. We'll see you next time!
RE: PGS S51: Game 76 - St. Louis at Vancouver - Wiad - 01-08-2020 RE: PGS S51: Game 76 - St. Louis at Vancouver - thedangazone - 01-12-2020 Top 3 underrated players of the game. 1. Bobby Bobcalf for the Vancouver Whalers comes in 1st this time. While he didn't add any points he did have 4 shots on goal, 3 hits, went 2 out of 3 on faceoffs coming in for his tossed out center, and added over a minute of penalty kill time to round it out. 2. Jakub Bruchevski for the St. Louis Scarecrows comes in 2nd. Going 19 for 33 in the faceoff dot to be the main guy for STL, 7 shots on goal, 1 hit, and well over 4 minutes of penalty kill time for the selfless play from Mr. Bruchevski. 3. Yamamoto Mitsuhara for St. Louis did much of the same as Jakub up there but he also was just slightly lower in most things though did add an assist. He had 2 shots and 1hit as well as going 11 for 30 on faceoffs but did add well over 4 minutes of penalty kill time. Would have loved to see a little more in shots or hits or even a few shots blocked to vault him higher. |
