If SHL(and SMJHL) Teams Were Casts of TV Shows - Leoben - 01-09-2020 Ready for the grading SHL Teams Like the title says, I am comparing SHL Franchises to casts of television shows. There is no basis for this and no real comparison. I don’t know most of you and to do that much research and work for what will amount to little more than nonsense anyway seems like too much effort. The only qualifiers here are that these are all television shows I have watched in full. Mini-series are allowed. Buffalo Stampede House When House is on television now, it makes for excellent background noise. It’s always there and depending what episode it is, I may stop and watch for a bit. It is reliable and usually entertaining. I would compare it to a pepperoni pizza. It is just one of those consistencies in life. I bring this up because when it comes to recruiting, Buffalo always reached out to me in the past. At least I think they did. Chicago Syndicate Dead Like Me Dead Like Me was a show about grim reapers. It was pretty fun although it only lasted a few seasons. I was at Target one night before night shift and was going through an edgy emo phase (I was much younger) and this appealed to me because of the name. I ended up enjoying it quite a bit. It had a lot of those actors that you knew from other shows but I never placed them until later. I had no clue at the time. Similar to Chicago. I have no idea who you guys are but keep on truckin’. Hamilton Steelhawks Breaking Bad This one is too obvious based on recent events. While not the reason that we are switching sim engines, they were a big catalyst. I don’t think Hallsy is Walter White and Waters is not Jessie, but one of them just might be Gus or Todd. Anyways, Walter and Jessie started small but ended up having an empire before it all came tumbling down. Lots of meth hijinx and murder in this one. Give it a watch. Manhattan Rage Rescue Me Just a New York show for a New York team. I don’t know many people on the team but they get Rescue Me. Maybe the team are like the crew from 62 Truck but I don’t think they’d be long for the site if they were that non-PC. Rescue Me is a good show with its ups and downs. Can make you laugh and cry in the same scene. It goes off the rails a bit toward the end but I’d highly recommend it. New England Wolfpack My Little Pony Ace took over after I decided to leave the team on good terms got cut for retiring/un-retiring/creating a multi/being an unpleasant person so I don’t know what it’s like now, but this is all I remember from that locker room. Why did I watch this show? Children. Tampa Bay Barracuda Dexter Someone has to get Dexter. This was a great show and yes, it was good after Season 4. It didn't get really bad until the final season. Hopefully you guys don't change your mascot to a lumberjack though. Toronto North Stars American Crime Story – The People Versus OJ Simpson Quality show and the team seems alright. Don’t know enough about them. The show had some characters that seems too crazy to be real but then when I went back and watched actual videos, I was amazed how accurate some of it was. I would give it a watch if you like legal thrillers. West Kendall Platoon Battlestar:Galactica This show was either absolute quality or utter rubbish. I don’t think the Platoon are rubbish but their logo gives off a Colonial vibe. This show has everything you would want for a political drama, but it’s in space. Some people don’t like space but I do. They also say frak a lot because fuck wouldn’t get through the sensors. Calgary Dragons Daredevil The best of the Netflix Marvel shows. Shoutout to Jessica Jones but I haven’t finished that yet. Daredevil can be highly entertaining and the action is on point. Charlie Cox is a legend as the supporting cast are solid. They both have the red thing going on too. There are worse things to be compared to. Edmonton Blizzard 24 Jack Bauer is going to make another comeback if things heat up with this conflict with Iran (not getting political here that’s just how entertainment industry works). However you feel about Bauer’s actions on the show, this show was pretty remarkable until Season 6 but it still had some magic after that. Edmonton always packs a punch much like Bauer, so it seems fair to compare. Los Angeles Panthers The O.C. This one was lazy but it made sense. The O.C. got a bad rap but it was a really good show at times and I really enjoyed the end. It was very self-aware and even made fun of itself on occasion. Lots of angst and drama and colorful characters. I don’t know much about the Panthers obviously. Minnesota Chiefs LOST This show was a bit much at times and it turned into a bit of a religious experience in the later seasons. It all felt like a U2 concert. It was all sweet and happy and tearful at the end but then you just wanted to take a really long shower. But the characters were cool. New Orleans Specters Sons of Anarchy Another show that had its ups and downs but was usually entertaining. The ending was weird and predictable and pretty much everyone died (Tara vs. Gemma was brutal) but it was a wild ride. Can’t argue with that. The acting was quality and the characters are some of the coolest on television. New Orleans seems similar. San Francisco Pride Game of Thrones The guy that you think is the protagonist gets killed in the first season but some of my favorite people survived until the end so I guess that’s something. I realize I just compared King to Ned Stark but it is what it is. This show was very controversial. I fell in the middle. It had its good and bad points but the most entertaining part was seeing all the hardcore fans' lives unravel because it didn’t end how they wanted it to. Anyway, the Pride used to have an eclectic cast of characters too. I haven’t been there in a while but I’m sure they still do. Texas Renegades Friday Night Lights Too easy. Texas Forever! I’m not sure if anyone on the Renegades is actually from or even in Texas but that doesn’t matter. I have actually been to Texas multiple times and used to live there. I dig it. This show is a classic. And just when you think it’s gone off the rails (one of the protagonists straight up murdered a guy and there was no follow-up), it manages to get better. Give it a watch. I’m biased toward the Renegades now obviously, since I play for them. Much like the cast of this show, we all kind of do our own thing and have our own shit to deal with but always try to come together for the big game, win or lose. Mostly lose these days but that’s gonna change. Winnipeg Jets Bodyguard This is another one of those shows I didn’t know anything about going in but it was a treat. No idea who the Jets are so this is a good fit. SMHJL Teams Anaheim Outlaws Chernobyl All I remember is playing the Outlaws a lot when I was in Halifax and getting my ass handed to me, a lot. This show was amazing but also terrifying, much like the Outlaws were during my Junior career. Anchorage Armada The Real World – Seattle This was my favorite season of The Real World. I understand the show is still on the air but each season is kind of its own thing aside from the crossover stuff. This was a cool season with lots of crazies. Seattle is on the water, and so is an Armada, so this seems like a good fit. Carolina Kraken Love/Hate I love the Militia and while I wouldn’t say I hate the Kraken, I’m definitely not a fan. So this show is about Irish gangsters and it has the funny guy from Umbrella Academy. Fun fact, he’s from the same county in Ireland as me. Colorado Raptors Euphoria I understand that Euphoria is still on the air but I have seen every episode so far. I don’t know if I like it or not yet but it is definitely entertaining. The Raptors fit this mold because I say they do. Detroit Falcons Dollhouse Another Joss project that didn’t really go anywhere. I used to not like Detroit because of reasons I’m not even sure of. I think I read an article one time and it made me mad but I honestly can’t remember. Anyway, the Falcons remind me of Dollhouse because it seems like the kind of place you want to break people out of. Halifax Raiders Firefly Firefly is a very popular show. It gained a cult following that still grows today but dear God, the way some people talk about it you would swear it is this masterpiece. It’s good and very re-watchable even after so many years but it is not without its flaws. It has good colorful characters and you want them to succeed but that’s about it. I would like Halifax to succeed some day too. Kelowna Knights Beverly Hills 90210 The original 90210. A lot of it does not hold up in the slightest but they touched subjects that were pretty taboo for the time. The characters were cool. All pretty and white with pretty white problems but it was still good for what it was. Lethbridge Lions Lights Out It was some forgettable boxing show and the final scene of the show was the protagonist forgetting what happened. I wish I forgot too, trust me. St. Louis Scarecrows Southland This was a pretty intense cop drama but it wasn’t like the ones you usually see on television with the blue line bullshit. This showed good cops, bad cops, flawed cops, drunk cops, just lots of cops doing cop things. Amazing show. Reminds me of the Scarecrows. Vancouver Whalers Prison Break I don’t even know if this show is over or not yet. They keep doing comebacks so I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one back. The first season was epic and then it just got weird. Still, really cool characters and lots of fun mysteries and double crosses. It reminds me of Vancouver and whales.
