Captain's Log - Moscow - Prospects NA - EricNCSU - 01-23-2020 The exhibition portion of this seasons World Junior Championship just concluded. While the Prospects North America team didn't exactly blow the field away, the early performances weren't as bad as the 2-7 record would indicate. As Captain of the team, it's my job to take a dive into the stats and see what worked and what didn't. Three of the teams losses were by only one goal. vs USA (L 6-5): Scored the last two goals of the game. Comeback attempt came up just short. We scored at 19:02, but just ran out of time. vs Finland (L 3-2): Finland jumped out to an early lead with three goals in the 1st period. We managed to score one in the second and one in the third, but again fell just short of the comeback. Jobin made 30+ saves after the original onslaught to keep us in it. vs Canada (L 3-2): We scored at 5:06 of the third period to tie it 2-2, unfortunately Canada scored at 6:56 what ended up being the game winner. Our most impressive game had to be the 3-0 win over Team DACH. Vaunted as the team to beat before the tournament started, Jobin pitched a shutout and did so in amazing fashion stopping 55 SOG. Incredible. Now lets look at some individual stats. Only 2 players did not register a point, enforcer Mars Vendetta, who only saw 6 minutes of ice time, and shutdown defenseman Ryan Watson, however, he contributed with 21 hits and 10 shots blocked. Ethan Price led the team with 4 goals, behind him four players had two goals, and seven players had one. Our highest assist totals came from defenseman, Jack Kanoff with 5, Vince Chalut with 4, Tommy Outlaw and Ravi Gupta both with 3. Those shots from the point either found a deflection in front or left a juicy rebound. After them, six players had 2 assists and 5 players had 1. Very balanced scoring along all the lines. As far as penalties go, Jack Kanoff had 10 PIM (no majors) and the rest of the team either had 4, 2 or 0. No major penalties for anyone on the team. Very disciplined play and I'm very proud of the fellas for playing a clean game, no matter the outcome. I've adjusted the lines to try to balance the scoring and defense as well as try to get everyone as much ice time as possible. The Round Robin portion starts tommorrow and the rest of the guys are off resting, so I'm going to sign off and do the same.
