NEW - Ace
Rex Kirkby

WKP - JR95
Delver Fudgeson, NEW S53 1st[TBD], NEW S54 1st[TBD]*If the Wolfpack miss the postseason, this pick slides to S55.

NEW: B+
Giving up a lot of assets, but with a 2k(though now recently regressed), he will be a force to be reckoned with for the next like 8 seasons if he fights regression, and will be important for New England, as after a couple seasons of missing the playoffs, will try once again to make it.

WKP: A
It sucks to trade a franchise player like Kirkby, after draft him back in S43, but they are rebuilding and will need the draft picks in order to actually rebuild. The 2 1sts will come in handy, as well as getting a decent defenseman in Fudgeson.

TEX - Dankoa
MIN S53 1st[TBD](4th OA), WPG S54/55 1st[TBD]*

*Conditional Pick: Prior to the S54 Draft, TEX may choose to take WPG S54 1st Rd Pick or defer and take WPG S55 1st Rd Pick

WPG -Muerto
TEX S53 1st[TBD] (1st OA)

https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?tid=103979

TEX: A
I think this is a great move for Texas. They move back 3 spots and are in a still prime position to pick a great player, as well as getting a 1st on a team that isnt in a confirmed playoff spot, so it would be another top 8 pick.

WPG: B+
Winnipeg must really like someone to trade a future first to move up 3 spots in the draft, so its not like they arent going to pick a bad person, but it is a very steep price for 4th OA.

3/10/20

BUF - WannabeFinn
WPG S53 1st[TBD], TEX S53 4th[TBD]

WPG - Muerto
Kristoffer Svensson, BUF S53 1st[TBD]

https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?tid=104015

So now the BUF/WPG 2.0 Trade, they had to retrade because of some traded picks that werent WPG’s, BUF gets WPG 5th OA, and TEX 51st OA for Kristoffer Svensson(inactive 928 TPE forward) + 14th OA.

Buffalo: A+
To me, its a great win for Buffalo, they are already getting rid of Svensson so attaching that to their late 1st to get all the way up to 5th OA, the difference between prospects from 14th OA and 5th OA makes it worth it to Buffalo, and a win to Buffalo.

WPG: C

To try to understand it to WPG, I can see the allure of getting Svensson, a right under 1k(good for cap) player that can bolster his roster to try to make a playoff push in the future, but Svensson is S46 so only 3 seasons left until regression, so the clock is ticking before he starts to become more useless. Trading back 9 spots is a hefty price for a 928 inactive player. And they will have some major hurdles(in my eyes I see CGY, EDM, NOLA, SFP, and LAP ahead of them in terms of roster and TPE) in order to make the playoffs, so maybe it works out? But I dont see it working out.

CGY - steelhead77
HAM S55/56/57 3rd[TBD]*reddit 3rd

HAM - ThatDamnMcJesus
MIN S53 3rd[TBD]

https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?tid=104203

Calgary: C+
Calgary must not like the 3rd round this reddit draft and it looking to see if the next one is better

Hamilton: C+

I just see this as HAM trying to get more picks in this reddit draft, and seeing that he could get something.

3/4/20

EDM - Keygan
TOR S54 4th[TBD]

TOR - ML002
Kevin Robinson, First Name Last Name

https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?tid=103830

EDM: C+
In order to get rid of Cap Space EDM traded away 2 semi active, but not important pieces

TOR: B

Toronto is slowly becoming a land of semi actives instead of regressing inactives, so he will be trying to get them to update more and become slightly better in the long run. Luckily those 2 players are still plenty of seasons away from regression.

3/12/20

SFP - Grapehead
NOLA S56 3rd[TBD]

NOLA - Jkortesi81
Filip Zadina

https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?tid=104200

SFP: C+
Decent trade for SFP but a couple seasons away from having any impact. With Henrik Lekberg Osterman getting called up, they can afford to trade away Zadina away.

NOLA: B
Only reason Im grading NOLA more higley as they get a cost controlled 3rd liner for a 3rd that is still 3 seasons away. They also replaced Watson with Zadina, and gained more in other trades so it is working out well Pick Management wise for NOLA.

3/12/20

MIN - SpartanGibbles
Bobby Watson, Bob Bergen, Stirling MacTavish, NOLA S53 3rd[Traded to TOR], NOLA S53 5th[TBD], MIN S53 5th[TBD], TBB S53 6th[TBD]

NOLA - Jkortesi81
MIN S55 1st[TBD]*Slides to S56 if S55 is a reddit draft, MIN S56 2nd[TBD], MIN S57 2nd[TBD]

https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?tid=104197

MIN: C+

I see why Minnesota went for this deal, they are getting 3 players back and a reddit 3rd(I see the other picks as garbage picks anyway). Though Watson and Bergen are reaching under 1k and inactive, so they are losing their value by a lot each season. MacTavish is good for right now, but his previous players havent been amazing, so its a big take on trying to see if MacTavish will be worth it. If MacTavish continues to impress then it will be good for Minny.

NOLA: B+
New Orleans shed 8.5 mil in their cap space, letting them play a bit more in FA, and other areas in their roster, as well as getting a non reddit 1st, reddit 2nd, and non reddit 2nd. I personally dont see Minny pushing deep into the playoffs/even making the playoffs in the next couple seasons, but they are continuing to improve their roster so who knows. But NOLA is banking on getting some lower picks in exchange for losing a good prospect and some inactive roster positions.

3/14/20

MIN - SpartanGibbles
WKP S53 3rd[TBD], TEX S54 2nd[TBD]*changes to whichever 2nd TEX sends to WKP, WKP S57 2nd[TBD]

WKP - JR95
EDM S53 2nd[TBD]
https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?tid=104256

MIN: B
MIN Gets 34th OA, and future non reddit 2nds which would be good if WKP misses the playoffs. If WKP makes the playoffs, then the 2nds will be in the top half of 2nds, which probably wont be a lot of good quality players. But they have trade value so if they can turn that into more quality picks then that will be good for minny.

WKP: B
Sure WKP gave up picks to jump up to 26th OA, but there is a lot better prospects at 26 vs 34, so I see it as very much worth it for WKP, as they are in the period of getting a core that spans S50 - S53

3/14/20

MIN - SpartanGibbles
LAP S54 1st[TBD],SFP S53 2nd[TBD]

TOR - ML002
Danny Martson, NOLA S53 3rd[TBD]

https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?tid=104255

MIN: B
Martson must have asked out or MIN got a deal they could refuse as they did get a late 2nd and a future 1st for Martson and a late 3rd. I think the deal works out for both of them

TOR: B
Instead of drafting a prospect next season they got a good prospect that was drafted last season, and they also get a late 3rd round pick, which may or may not work out for them. But I like the trade for the both of them, both get value out of it.

3/14/20

TBB - MCP
Sean Stevenson Jr.
NOLA S56/57 4th

NOLA - Jkortesi81
TBB S56/57 2nd * non reddit

https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?tid=104277

TBB - B
A 1200 regressing Defenseman, Tampa Bay are trying to get competitive again while they can. With a regressing goalie, they are in a time crunch to get the most out of Blue. The 4th will probably turn into nothing tbh. It is a good trade to get Stevenson, but it doesnt seem like the right team to get Stevenson to get the most out of the trade.

NOLA - C+
Getting a non reddit 2nd isnt that great for Stevenson, but if they are just trying to get rid of Cap Space then sure its good. But I feel like they could have gotten something more from Stevenson if they waited a bit more, im not sure.

RE: Grading Trades before the Draft - Keygan - 03-15-2020

Wasn’t for cap, it was to get something rather than put on waivers. I had no room with us dropping to 17 roster players.

Nice article!

RE: Grading Trades before the Draft - SpartanGibbles - 03-16-2020

Great article. Hit a lot of the Minny stuff on the head. I can elaborate more on some of them as well.

The NOLA trade was a move to shore up out team in the short term as well as add some possible picks in a reddit draft along with a new prospect. Before this trade I already knew I was losing an upcoming forward prospect to FA and NOLA was getting full with the new 17 man roster. So we traded to pick up a player that they would have likely had to trade or expose. Watson even after regression became the 3rd highest TPE forward for the Chiefs and Bergen became replacement for another IA with almost 300 less TPE for the same cap hit. I know not everyone is a fan of trading away higher picks, but while most of my prospects are still developing and already not owning my next first I decided to move to attempting to make the playoffs as opposed to tanking.

The WKP trade was an easy one from my side. Moving back 8 spots in a decent sized Reddit draft meant I could still pick up a quality player, but also add future picks to my assets.

I won't comment on the exact reasons for the TOR trade, but finding a new home for an active outside my conference and getting a great return for my future was a win-win for both sides in my book.

RE: Grading Trades before the Draft - JKortesi81 - 03-16-2020

Fun facts:

After we acquired Zadina, i messaged langa just to see where tf he's been. A day later he responded and is encouraged by the move so now he's like, active again. While that remains to be seen for how long, that's a big win i wasn't expecting.

The MIN/TBB trades were moves we were more forced to make than anything. This dropping to 17 players thing really fucked us (Note: my arguing against that in GM chat), so naturally the first players we moved were the inactives like Watson and Bergen. I didn't want to move Legend really, but with our logjam of players with less places to play them, he was the odd man out in the Bloos-TDZ-Legend triangle. Sending him to MIN gives him a place to flourish. Also, i couldn't use anything more than one pick in this reddit draft for these reasons, so i didn't need them really. Win for all. Stevenson was the toughest decision to make, and i had shopped him to pretty much every team. The return wasn't what I would've normally wanted, but nobody seemed willing to give up any more. Getting a 2nd from a team that most likely won't be that great for a while as they rebuild wasn't the worst loss. Giving up a Reddit 4th is nothing to me. I more than likely still won't have the room for that player (even with an expansion maybe happening), and that's right around the time we may see the Joe K 2.0 player join the prospect pool here. We were forced to make some callups and had to move someone, Stevenson was the correct choice in this scenario.

I get why your grades are what they are, just explaining the mindset over here for you, and others, to read up on.
