Texas Renegades Forward Josef Kubinec has unfollowed the Renegades on Twitter and Instagram. Earlier today, he called a press conference to issue a brief statement and answer questions.
“I would like to thank you all for gathering here today,” Kubinec proclaimed to the three reporters who showed up from Amarillo, Wichita Falls, and Abilene. “As the night of the draft came to a close, it became clearer by the minute that I would not be drafted. I am incredibly disappointed by this turn of events as I believe my talents and skills compared to the rest of the class warranted a high pick. Alas, each team opted to go another route. I had a bit of a chip on my shoulder the first time I was drafted, since I went late. But this time? I don’t even know what to say. To go undrafted at all is very disheartening.”
Kubinec declared for the Season 53 Draft last week even though he is already signed to the Texas Renegades. This did not deter him from making the announcement even though his attempt to enter the draft was not even legal.
“The league tried to hold me back on this move but I had the courage and determination to move forward. This shows the lengths that I will go to for any team. The fact that this got overlooked along with my other qualities on and off the ice is baffling to me. I am at a loss. In light of these recent events, I have decided to take certain actions that are well within my rights as a member of the league.
1. I will not be cheering when my teammates score a goal or we win a game. I will not display any emotion.
2. When I score a goal, I will not celebrate, but frown and shake my head in disappointment.
3. I have unfollowed my team on all social media platforms including Instagram and Twitter. This also extends to Facebook, Linkedin, Bebo, and Myspace. I will let you interpret this decision however you want to.
4. I will still stand for the National Anthems but know that I will not enjoy it.
5. I will still train and do other tasks but know that I will not be enjoying them.
6. I will blast Journey and Peter Gabriel in the locker room at practice and games.
7. My wife Helena will be attending all meetings, negotiations, practices, and games with me. She will need her own locker at home and on the road.
8. I demand that none of my teammates or the fans make eye contact with me at any time. If a fan does it, they should be removed from the arena. If one of my teammates does it, I expect @dankoa and @Jearim to take immediate disciplinary action toward the offender including suspensions and fines.
None of these are too outlandish and the fact is that you all brought this on yourselves. I am taking a stand for every other player who has ever felt slighted. I encourage you all to follow suit. Thank you for your time and I will now open the floor for questions.”
Reporter 1 – You are aware that you were not eligible for the draft, correct?
Kubinec – I did not read the rulebook prior to declaring eligibility. I cannot be held accountable for that ignorance and teams should have taken a chance on me anyway.
Reporter 2 – Why are you unfollowing your team on social media? Is this some kind of demand for a trade or release?
Kubinec – I will let you interpret it however you want.
Reporter 2 – But you just signed a new contract for three seasons.
Kubinec – That was fabricated. That was not me. Have you seen how good the deep fakes are these days?
Reporter 3 – What is your goal here?
Kubinec – I want other players to have the courage to take a stand. When Anne Frank sat at the front of the bus, she was taking a stand for the oppressed. I am doing the same.
Reporter 2 – You mean Rosa Parks?
Kubinec – Rosa Parks?
Reporter 1 – Rosa Parks was the lady who refused to go to the back of the bus.
Kubinec – How does she fit into this discussion?
