S52 Awards Ceremony - fishy - 03-20-2020 S52 Awards Ceremony
Date: Monday, March 23rd, 2020
Time: Between 6-8EST Hi everyone! I'm jfisherr, captain of the Crows and I'll be back for the final time, co-hosting this year's S51 SMJHL Awards Show with fellow SHL member @DaftRaincloud. Being awards host has been a fun and great opportunity but I will be stepping down after this ceremony and allowing some new blood to take over, sort of when I first took the job a few seasons ago. Feel free to keep on reading for a refresher on how S52 of the SMJHL went! Hope you enjoy!
TEAM AWARDS
Quote:Four Star Cup Champions: Anaheim Outlaws Congratulations to Anaheim for winning the whole thing in dominant fashion, finishing the SMJHL Playoffs with a record of 12-3 and almost sweeping the final two rounds of the playoffs. Anaheim finished with elite numbers across the board, finishing the playoffs with a +21 goal differential, a 26.67% powerplay, and a 95.65% PK rate. Anaheim was a deserving champion even if it came against my beloved Scarecrows, so hats off to the Outlaw players, as well as the Outlaw management team. Regarding the rest of the playoffs, nothing too exciting happened. St. Louis made the finals as a 6th seed, but were one of the unluckiest teams in the regular season as they had elite Corsi numbers, and were one of the lowest teams in terms of PDO. Them making a run was not the biggest surprise. Anaheim vanquished Vancouver in the first round in 6 games, Carolina, aka the Cup favourite, in a sweep, and then beat St. Louis in 5. Quote:Laurifer Trophy – Best Regular Season Record: Detroit Falcons - 61 points The season before this saw the Carolina Kraken take home the Laurifer Trophy with 73 points, showing this season was much more balanced compared to last season. Detroit led the league with a record of 29-18-3, and led the league in goals scored with 179. This Goals For of 179 proved vitally important, as three teams finished tied with 61 points, Detroit, Carolina, and Colorado, however Detroit won the tiebreaker thanks to their Goals For. Again, it continues to be seen that winning the Laurifer Trophy is a curse, as Detroit was vanquished by rival St. Louis in the second round in 6 games, this is now a team that Detroit hasn't beaten in the playoffs since S40.... 13 seasons. Detroit still had a good season and are primed to continue winning more games as their huge crop of rookies continue to develop. INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
Quote:Jared Hanson (Scoring Champ): @dankoa Kaarlo Kekkonen (DET) - 62 points :Falcons:2. Daniel Bischoff (ANC) - 55 points 3. Cal Labovitch (Det) - 54 points 425-capped goalies seems to have reduced the amount of scoring going on in the league, as after Fouquette led the league wiht 72 points a couple seasons back, 62 points has now won the Scoring Race in back to back seasons. Congrats dan for a great season! Quote:Roberto Martucci (Goal Leader): @dankoa Kaarlo Kekkonen (DET) - 29 goalsT-2. Indigo Trevino (HFX) - 26 goals T-2. James Ronlain (STL) - 26 goals This is back to back seasons a Falcon has won the Martucci trophy, which should come as a shock to nobody this season, as the Falcons led the league in scoring, and had two of the top 3 scorers league-wide on their team. Again, congrats dankoa for another great season Quote:Ronan O’Keefe (Playoff Scoring Champ): C.T. Carragher (ANA) - 19 points2. Kevin Robinson (ANA) - 18 points 3. Ivan Maximus (ANA) - 17 points Another result that should have nobody shocked, Anaheim led the Playoffs in goals scored, and went on to have the top 6! playoff scorers, before JMac n Cheese of Detroit finished in 7th. Carragher edged out Outlaw teammates to be this year's Ronan O'Keefe Trophy winner! I'm back for one final round as Awards Show Host, I am going to try and keep this short and sweet, straight to the point as I know most of you guys just want to know who the winners are, and not any of the circus-show of previous seasons. With that in mind, let's get into it shall we? For those unaware and too lazy to read the first post, this is the order in which the awards will be presented. Quote:Mathias Chouinard Award - Top GM Duo And with that, let's begin, shall we? |
