- JVatty - 01-01-2012 We are with Stud D-man Jarrko Vatinnen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So Vatinnen, What Numbers do you expect of your self in the upcoming SHL season Vatinnen: Well, its very hard to predict a rookie`s point totals, so i have an area how well, Im going to play this season. 2-8 Goals, 10-20 assists, -10 to +10, 80-100 Hits, 70-90 BS, I know soe of these numbers are norris trophy worthy, which i dont really think will happen, but i`m Hoping of the best for my player just like any person should hope for in their player. Vatinnen preparing for what could be a great season in his young SHL career Who had the best draft in the SHL and who was the biggest steal of the draft Vatinnen: Well, i have to say the comets, when you have 5 picks in the top 18 picks, who are going home from the draft with some great players. The biggest steal, i have to say is a tie between, belmont and Dollaz, Both all stars forwards, were what my opinion MVPs of the NWJHL. Both great players and Great quality guy and girl in the locker room to have. It kinda sucks that they are not on my team any more. I will miss both of them, alot What team do you think will be the hardest to play against Vatinnen: Well, I have to say any team is going to be hard to play against in the SHL as the league is a very tight league and 1 good offseason could boost your team last to first, or a bad offseason first to last. Just look at this past season. Comets were one of the top teams in the SHL, Made the west conference finals, and now they were picking first overall in the S7 draft. Then look at Los angles Panthers and the Minnesota Chiefs, Panthers picked first overall in S6 and the Chiefs had one of the worst seasons in the history of the SHL. A lot could change for any given team if they try their best to Win Most trades, Do their research about players and more importantly get results from this season. Zach Miller scoring one of his great goals of the chiefs Play off run So are you saying that the Comets could be in the Finals, next season Vatinnen: Well, anything could happen in the next week or so. We have added Fisher ( trade deadline), Armia, Myself, Johansen, Dupont,Gustavo to some good core players like Mcdonald, Klimek, Svendson, Bursato. It would be great if we did end up like a team like the Chiefs but personally were are another year away from competing with the big clubs like the Panthers, Chiefs, North Stars, Dragons but we will try our hardest every night and try and get that winning tradition back in edmonton that everyone remembers. So how are you liking being a Edmonton Comet Vatinnen: Well, We have a great Locker room with some great guys like Klimek, Mcdonald, Armia, Svendson, Gustavo, Johansen, Dupont and fisher, it is really great as all of these guys are usually on every day, should help create a more active Locker room. Seth is a great GM and he knows what to do when its comes to drafts as he drafted the last 2 Detriot Falcons teams and he has gotten a lot of success from it by winning a four stars cup and this past season the best team in the regular season and a eastern conference finalist. It is also great to have such a legendary player in Mcdonald, who will be a great mentor to every single player in this young locker room. I would love to be a comet for the rest of my career, and would like to talk about an extension when I can, and sign for a very long time. Jay McDonald winning a bunch of trophies after having one of the greatest seasons ever Where Do you think you will be playing on the Comets Vatinnen: well i have been told anywhere from the top pairing to the second pairing which should be a great for myself getting alot of playing time. It would be just great to play with another NWJHL all stars like Johansen, Dupont, Who i never played with ever actually i think i played with one of them during the all star game but i dont really know for sure off the top of my head What are you expectations for this team vatinnen: Playoffs, I want to win and win often and help my team win off the ice and on it But if we dont make the playoffs, i would be happy because i think this team will play hard and compete every night with the best teams in the league. I truly think this team will win a championship very soon as we have a great core group which is just going to get better as we have 2 first round pick and 2 second round picks for what could be one of the best draft classes in a very long time. Could you guys get the Comets back to their dynasty days Vatinnen: Maybe, who knows, the comets had one of the best teams ever in SHL history and it is going to diffult to get this team back to the top this season but i like challenges and hopefully it brings out the best out of every one on this team. Jay Mcdonald, will have alot to teach us about the SHL and he is going to be a huge reason why we will be successful in the SHL. It is going to be a tight game and hopefully we get a the lead as soon as possible as i want to have a the four stars ring around my fingers.
